12.01.2022 Gurudwara sahib Brisbane Donated water Bottles to the St Andrews war memorial Hospital .

11.01.2022 Today Khalsa Assist Donated Water Snacks and other Items to St Andrews War Memorial Hospital. Thanks to a small group of Ladies from the Inala Gurdwara for the ...Donation (Gupt Daan), and Thanks for the ten cartons of water Donation (Gupt Daan) from the North Side. Khalsa Assist were ecstatic to have our youngest volunteers helping out this morning! Today we had the privilege of visiting St Andrews War Memorial Hospital where we delivered cartons of water, poppers, snacks and pens which will be provided to clinical staff and allied health professionals during the Self Care and Wellbeing forums which are organised by the Hospital Chaplains. Chaplains Helen Hill and Phoebe Mitchell said, in the hospital community there are numerous traumatic events and tragically suicide is prevalent amongst medical staff. The Chaplains run mandatory self-care and wellbeing forums for about 500 clinical staff and allied health professionals annually. We have sometimes bought snack items for staff members to encourage them to have a break and care for themselves. They are so busy with their work caring for others that they forget to stop and take a break they said. There are no government funds for these items so they reached out for assistance and we are delighted to support the amazing work the Chaplains do to ensure the safety and wellbeing of the heroic front-line staff who devote their lives to the service of others. We would like to thank everyone for supporting Khalsa Assist. Your kind donation enables us to help the heroic men and women serving to protect the communities affected by these unprecedented fires. 08.01.2022 Los Angeles Rethinks Taxis as Uber and Lyft Dominate the Streets. The cab business is down 75 percent in less than a decade. The plan is to make taxis a lot more like their app-hailed rivals. Los Angeles is planning to make its taxi system look more like Lyft or Uber . Taxis can be requested from a centralized dispatch with an app and passengers will know the cost of their rides before getting into the car.... The cab business is down 75 percent in less than a decade. The plan is to make taxis a lot more like their app-hailed rivals. On one side, fast-moving lanes of app-hailed cars jockey to pick up their passengers. On the other, cabs inch along the curb, waiting for a fare. The numbers were similarly bleak for cabs throughout the city. The Los Angeles Department of Transportation estimates that taxi business is down 75 percent since 2012, when Uber first rolled into town. If that sounds more like ride-hailing, that is exactly the idea. that are bought and sold on the open market, Los Angeles issues contracts to nine independently operated cab companies. The same nine operators have held those contracts since 1990. Press officers for Uber and Lyft declined to provide information on the number of drivers who operate in Los Angeles, but both described the market as important. As part of her research, Ms. Brown had 18 U.C.L.A. students take 1,700 trips between the same two locations. They hailed cabs from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. seven days a week, alternating among taxis, Ubers and Lyfts. Interviewing the students afterward, Ms. Brown said: They felt the unreliability of taxis did not end when they got in the car. They didnt know how much the trip would be. There wasnt always a recourse if they were unsatisfied with the driver. Uber and Lyft, they could complain and get their money back. And that raises the question: If Uber and Lyft offer superior service at a better price, and if taxis attempts to emulate ride-hail technologies are not working, why not just let the taxi system fail? Ms. Brown said taxis were used most often by the citys lowest-income people, who pay with cash. What the city can control, however, is its taxis. And that control, many cab companies say, is what has stopped them from effectively competing with Uber and Lyft. It often takes weeks for a new driver to get a permit, Mr. Momennasab said, whereas a Lyft or Uber driver can sign up and be working within a few days. Everybody says they want to help us, he said, but I dont think were going to get the help that we need. https://headtopics.com//los-angeles-rethinks-taxis-as-uber

03.01.2022 Increased fines and demerit points for mobile phone driving offences. Increased $1000 fines and 4 demerit points for mobile phone driving offences From 1 February 2020, if you are using a mobile phone illegally while driving, you'll risk a $1000 fine ... and 4 demerit points. These penalties will apply for any hand-held use of phones such as to make phone calls, text messaging, or social media use while driving. This also applies while stopped at traffic lights. Bicycle riders will also be fined $1000, but no demerit points will be issued. With 4 demerit points for just one offence, some people, especially those on learner and provisional licences could lose their licence from just one offence. Double demerit points will still apply to all drivers for a second mobile phone offence within 12 months, which is 8 points and could cost most people their licence. The penalties are being significantly increased to help put a stop to this dangerous behaviour. Research shows using a mobile phone while driving can be as risky as drink driving. A driver's response time while texting on a phone is comparable to that of a driver with a blood alcohol reading of between 0.07 and 0.10. The message is clear - Leave your phone alone. Drivers and riders are encouraged to set up the Do Not Disturb While Driving function on their phones to help avoid using their phones. Search Street Smarts for easy instructions on how. Visit www.tmr.qld.gov.au for more information about the increased penalties.
