25.01.2022 PEST PLANT ALERT Sunshine Coast Regional Council is putting Mary Valley landholders on alert after the re-discovery of an invasive spiky tree with long thorns c...apable of piercing car tyres and work boots. The honey locust tree, forms dense spiky thickets that can out-compete native vegetation and severely injure livestock and people. It was promoted as a nitrogen fixing cattle fodder tree decades ago, but soon proved to be a real pest. Local councils spent decades trying to eradicate the trees but two were recently found at Conondale. The tree is a prohibited invasive plant under the Queensland Government Biosecurity Act 2014 and must not be kept, moved, given away or sold without a permit. All sightings should be reported to Biosecurity Qld within 24 hours. For more information on identification and control visit: https://www.business.qld.gov.au/.../prohibited/honey-locust : Sunshine Coast regional council
