03.01.2022 Thank you Elizabeth ! A very proud day for our Sutherland family and our extended families here, in Vanuatu and in Scotland.. It is great to see that Greg has been acknowledged in this very special way by the Mackay community. Kirsten (Greg's daughter) and I were both present at the official opening of the Ring Road and got the biggest and best surprise we could have ever hoped for when Greggie's name was unveiled. Thank you to all the people who put his name forward and everyone else involved. What a great week for it to happen too - it is South Sea Islander State Recognition week with the 20th anniversary of State Govt Recognition of the South Sea Islander community as a separate ethnic group, on Monday 7th September - so also a proud moment for our South Sea Communities. x

01.01.2022 From Riccardo Yasso President Bridging Health Inc ! RM Yasso Representatives of the ASSI Communities across Queensland came together in Brisbane today to celebrate the 20th year of State Recognition, celebrating the valuable contributions our people made towards the economic, cultural and regional development of Queensland. I am humbled to be here among these ASSI leaders, who have inspired myself and others to care, strengthen and support our people, and to raise awareness o...f our people in Australian History. Joanne Warkill who accompanied her husband Kerry Warkill (President, ASSIUC) to the Recognition Morning Tea today, is not only our Treasurer & Membership Communications Coordinator, but a tireless member, worker and Committee Member with a number of local and State ASSI organisations in Queensland. Joanne presented a speech to the Ministers and ASSI Representatives today, and again did brilliantly. We are so proud of all your hard work and perseverance in every area of your life. You are a joy and blessing to many! In pictures below, Joanne stands with Minister Stirling Hinchcliffe MP enjoying the morning. I am grateful for those in our past who secured the foundations of the life I now live, and the future we can all look forward to. Their determination and never-giving-up spirit paved the way for those following after them. Looking around the room today, I see many family who’s fathers and mothers and forefathers worked together to create a better future for us. Firstly, those brought over to work the sugar cane and cotton fields, and even stations, to establish Australia’s sugar and cotton industries, who taught us about hard work, resilience, solidarity, community and having a good sense of humour. Then there are the many who worked tirelessly for recognition which resulted in (among other things) 1) ASSI being granted access to government services and health assistance 2) greater government involvement and awareness of the needs of ASSI people 3) the development of strategic inclusion of ASSI in community development consultation, training and infrastructure 4) strategic planning to combat prejudice and discrimination 5) allocation of funding for cultural programs and festivals 6) acknowledgement of the need for public awareness of the role that ASSI have played in Australia’s history Today we got to share time together as ASSI family, and I thank Curtis Pitt MP, Speaker of the House and Warwick Agnew (Director General Dept Local Government, Racing and Multicultural Affairs) and Stirling Hinchliffe MP, as our Minister for Local Government, Racing & Multicultural Affairs in Queensland, for making that possible and for giving us the opportunity to meet and celebrate with Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk & Members of Parliament our 20th Year of ASSI Recognition in the State of Queensland. Thank you very much!

01.01.2022 This Sunday we will be getting together gifts for these NiVan men who are seasonal workers in Munduberra and who visited our church early last year. These guys returned this time just after Christmas last year, not realising that because of the Covid Virus they wouldn't be seeing their wives and children for more than a year, and would be missing Christmas with them. For the gifts that we will give them, we aim for as many as want to be involved to bring ten of anything tow...ards the ten gifts - so 10 chocolate blocks or 10 pens or 10 tins of tuna or 10 pairs or work socks or whatever you would like to give. Be creative! Let's bless these guys and give them a happy Christmas! From Jon May from the Rock Civenant Love Ministries church Rockhampton so that was Sunday just gone they received a lot of donations thanks to all families here that donated you are all awesome !!
