18.01.2022 Another big potential shift in Australias film culture. Even if Hoyts maintains Palaces identity, its unlikely theyll maintain it as a priority.

13.01.2022 Happy Halloween! One of our favourite recent horror films is Conor Batemans Runtime, commissioned by the great new video series Prototype - e-newsletter of experimental video art & short film. A compilation of horror scenes set within cinemas is sensible seen as an opportunity to break the fourth wall as many times as possible. It might be apt.

07.01.2022 Sad to hear of the loss of Peter Wollen whose Signs and Meaning in the Cinema, and Riddles of the Sphinx (with Laura Mulvey) were essential to how we read (and see) cinema. Coming so soon after the death of Thomas Elsaesser, another key founder of Film Studies, it feels as if this moment of cinema is passing.

07.01.2022 Adrian Curry of @MoviePosteroftheDay goes through his favourite Movie Posters of the Decade. (Well quibble over some, but agree on number one.)

01.01.2022 In Fabric, the latest film from Peter Strickland (Berberian Sound Studio, The Duke of Burgundy), and a giddy work which picks at the spectacle of fashion and the fantasy of consumerism, as if rituals of a cabal, screens this weekend at Queensland Art Gallery/Gallery of Modern Art. This is part of a broader retrospective of his films (so if you do want to check out Berberian, Duke or even his amazing Bjrk concert film, do look further) which we delighted to help put together a free dossier on at Senses of Cinema.

01.01.2022 This is also starting to happen in Australia.
