25.01.2022 Just a quick update on the "Thin Red Line Project" our mental health initiative. I recently met up with the coordinators and things a going great, with a positive results across the board. While all persons participating are de-identified. We at the QFC have been contacted directly by some participants and the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive with noticeable improvements at work and at home.... Two responses that stick in my mind have been: "My fuse is longer than it was, and it burns a little slower" "I got checked by the Ambo's after wearing BA at a house fire and my pulse and blood pressure had barely shifted, I can't explain it, but I'm more calm and clear headed." We still have positions available in the South-East corner and it's becoming clear, the project is different things to different people - but that's the great thing, It's for the individual and not a cookie cutter, band-aid approach. If you are a Firefighter or know a Firey that may need a little help understanding what's going on in their noggin' please call: Tamara Lorensen 0432-364-256 Dr Cameron Newton 3138-2523 Stay safe

18.01.2022 Hey everyone out there. It's a tough time for just about everybody, everywhere at the moment. The uprising of support for Australians in need has shown the very best in all of us. The situation at the moment will be a defining event for us all collectively, as a nation. On all fronts there is a deep need; From the Firefighters to displaced families through to the farmers and our precious native animals, help is needed. ... Sadly, there will always be somebody out there trying to make a buck outta bad luck. Please, make an informed decision when you decide to donate and support the effort. Check with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission website at: www.acnc.gov.au/charity, to see that your valuable contribution will get to where it's intended via a reputable charity that supports the unfolding disaster. While the QFC is proud to be registered federally with the ACNC and displaying the hard earned registered charity approval; Our mission as a charity is clear and is what defines us - which is to support Queensland Firefighters and their families. Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone touched by this disaster. And to our Queensland Fireys that have gone down South to help out, Stay Safe.

16.01.2022 Just received this at the office. From Anne and Mike Gagliano - authors of the immensely popular, "Challenges of the Firefighter Marriage". This time around they've teamed up with gifted artist and Firefighter Paul Combs, to create this 2020 calender. Flipping through it I found July's column fits perfectly with our current mental health initiative, "The Thin Red Line Project". A good point is made about the power of exercise and antidepressants (1 Minute read) ... Although in reading it I do believe that some of the times quoted may be a little excessive....................

14.01.2022 Hey guys, I'm proud to announce that we have struck up a partnership with the Pacific Sell brand. Based on the Gold Coast, this outfit is all about style with a conscience. All their products are steeped in the ethos of reclaiming and recycling materials which are repurposed into top-end fashion items. So how did we get involved? Alex and his team are stockists of the ultra-hip UK brand Elvis & Kresse. Elvis & Kresse produce luxury bags and wallets from reclaimed London Fire... Brigade hose and leather from fashion brand - Burberry. In keeping with the shared values of Elvis & Kresse, Pacific Sell are donating 30% of their profits to Queensland Firefighters Charity. Take a look at their products and especially the video on how Elvis & Kresse create their bags. Kind of wishing my wife hadn't watched it now myself........... https://www.pacificsell.com/

12.01.2022 Some jobs just can't be done from home.

11.01.2022 https://www.revivedcouture.com.au/shop By the requests I'm getting, It would seem that Valentine's Day is around the corner. Who would have thought that a section of Duraline could create so much fuss. To all those people that have private messaged me asking about the Elvis & Kresse Fire Hose/Burberry products from Revived Couture ( a PacificSell brand). You'll be pleased to know they now have an online store for those people outside of the South East corner. ... Raining outside, online shopping and helping a Firefighter at the same time........Perfect.

10.01.2022 A big THANK YOU to the gang out there at - The Cloncurry Bakery. They've donated to us after a little fundraiser, outstanding! And they do a bloody good pie as well!

09.01.2022 Payment is due..... This one is for the Firefighters and Fire Communications staff. - If you are a Firey or Comm operator, listen to the podcast or watch the video.... - If you deploy for Firefighting or Search & Rescue, listen to the podcast or watch the video. - if you're a union rep, listen to the podcast or watch the video. - If you manage Firefighters or Comms staff, listen to the podcast or watch the video. - If you know a cop, ambo, nurse or anybody else doing shift work, send them the link for the podcast or video. The subject is sleep. All jokes aside (I can probably guess most of them), this topic is super critical to both our physical and mental health. The presenter is Dr. Matt Walker, and he is right up there at the tip of spear on this subject. His bio is listed below, and he certainly isn't your Instagram 'influencer' telling you to stop/or start/eating/exercising/breathing/or whatever. Time to watch/listen: 20mins, the podcast link is for Google podcasts, the presentation is also available from Spotify. A lot of discoveries have been made and knowledge gained on sleep in recent times. Much of what we've been told (or learned at Uni) is contrary to these new discoveries. Sleep is not like a bank account where the (sleep) debt can be managed and repaid. Quite simply, If your account is in arrears, payment is due..... Firefighters, Comms personnel, Police, Nurses and Paramedics - there is cost for those that watch over us 24/7 and it's way more valuable than money - Thank You all, for what you give. https://www.ted.com/t/matt_walker_sleep_is_your_superpower https://podcasts.google.com/ Bio: Matthew Paul Walker is a British scientist and professor of neuroscience and psychology at the University of California, Berkeley. His research focuses on the impact of sleep on human health and disease. Previously, he was a professor of psychiatry at Harvard Medical School. He is also the founder and director of the Center for Human Sleep Science. He has received numerous funding awards from the National Science Foundation and the National Institutes of Health, and is a Kavli Fellow of the National Academy of Sciences. Dr. Walker has published more than 100 scientific research studies

06.01.2022 It's great when we get some feedback from the Cash for Containers drive. A big shout out to all the Firey's at State B.A./HazMat and Roma St. (2 Stn.) Fire & Rescue Station. In the last few months they have banded to together and contributed over a $1000.00 to the QFC from cans, bottles, steel and aluminium. Besides helping out a Firefighter in need (and being all round bloody legends) they must have the cleanest Fire Stations on the planet! We realise it's a team effort, but we have got to give a special call to Karl Sams for co-ordinating and focussing efforts.

05.01.2022 Thanks Revived Couture for actually making us look pretty cool. Also thanks to our PPE/C suppliers: Angus, Bullard & Rosenbauer - They keep Firefighters safe, so they can do what matters.

05.01.2022 I'm quite average at maths (that's why we have an accountant). But I reckon I can master this simple math: If I have 3900 cans & plastic bottles and I get 10 cents per container.....let me see. 3900 x .10... = 390 That's right! a Firey/shift/station has collected 3900 containers - Which is 390 bucks donated into the Charity, now that's committent! Thank You, we would love to know the who and the where....

04.01.2022 A big shout out to Rafter & Rose in down town Ipswich for helping out with the Fireys - Best coffee....ever.

01.01.2022 Looking for a contact at South Bank Corporation to discuss a project establishing a long term tribute to Firefighters in the state capital.
