06.01.2022 Our upcoming Concert on 29th March 'Screen & Stage Spectacular' will be raising funds for CHIRF: 'CHIRF is a charity created to ensure the survival of primary health care in Mallacoota. Victoria's most remote town. 1063 people (6000 at xmas), "no traffic lights", no aged care or nursing/hospital facilities. We found a Doctor and have grown, building a medical centre, created a teen clinic, introduced mental health and chronic disease rehab services for the community. We rec...eive no funding from the State for primary health. All our work has been funded by donations, and support from the Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal (FRRR) and Gippsland Primary Health Network(GPHN). We urgently need funding to ensure survival of our medical practice, grow the teen clinic facilities and improve mental health services. We also dream of building a nursing/aged care facility and have plans already prepared. Our medical centre and staff with volunteers provided critical services to the community during the bushfires. Some 200 patients were handled on the first 48 hours after the fires that recently devastated the community. We maximised our volunteering services and funding during this time, and now need more to rebuild, and continue on with our expansion of health services.' Please support our fundraising concert to help a community that has been devastated by the bushfires. 03.01.2022 Spreading the word about music, medicine and QMO to our junior doctors. #musicandmedicine (Please note that ‘Screen and Stage Spectacular’ concert mentioned in the podcast is currently postponed).
03.01.2022 Dear QMO Fans, As you are aware, the COVID-19 pandemic has been progressing over the last few weeks. Today, the Chief Medical Officer of Australia, Professor Brendan Murphy, has issued a recommendation for all non-essential gatherings of large groups of people be postponed during the outbreak. Whilst we believe music plays an important role in helping us get through tough times, as medical professionals, we believe it is vitally important to heed the advice of our health se...ctor leaders in strategies that could attenuate the impact of COVID-19. As a result, we feel we must cancel our upcoming concert "Stage and Screen Spectacular" on March 29th. Considering a large amount of our friends and family are health care workers, we want to make sure they are healthy to deal with the increased workload from screening fever clinics, COVID-19 related presentations and general societal health care needs to come. We are hopeful that we may be able to reschedule this concert to later in the year and will keep you all up to date with regards to these plans as we are able to make them. For those people who have purchased tickets, you will receive an email from our Manager Dr Paul Jauncey with regards to refunds next week. He is currently in negotiation with Trybooking to facilitate these refunds. For our QMO Friends and Sponsors who have purchased extra tickets, you will receive an email from Dr Lily Vrtik with regards to your preference for a 'raincheck' or a refund. We are all as disappointed as you are with the need to cancel this concert, but we are committed to the health of our communities and will always act in the best interest of our members, audience, and the public. Please take care of yourselves, your families, friends and colleagues. Stay safe and we hope to see everyone very soon. Kind regards The QMO Executive
03.01.2022 We would love to introduce one of our new Maestro Sponsors for 2020. GenesisCare provides personal clinical care for patients in various areas of medicine, with focus on cancer treatments. We are very proud to be affiliated with GenesisCare, and so very lucky to be sponsored by a great organisation that has the same values we foster in QMO. Thank you Dr Marie Burke & GenesisCare, without your support, we would not have this wonderful opportunity of raising funds for charity and indulging in our love for music at the same time.
02.01.2022 Introducing our new Virtuoso Sponsor for 2020: Conrad Gargett. This year, award winning national architecture firm Conrad Gargett celebrate the practice’s 130 year anniversary. The practice was established following the successful competition entry for the Brisbane Head Fire Station by Henry Atkinson in 1890. For the next 100 years, the practice built a strong reputation for client focus and leading design delivering a significant portfolio of commercial and institutional projects in Queensland’s South-East. At QMO & C, we are very grateful for Conrad Gargett's generous support, and we are very proud to be affiliated with such a prestigious firm. We look forward to celebrating 2020 - our 10th Anniversary with Conrad Gargett's 130th!
01.01.2022 Here's a little update from our Music Director Dr Ryan Williams: Dear QMO Fans, I hope this email finds you well. Life has been challenging for all of us living under the ‘Home Confinement’ restrictions over the past few weeks, and I can only imagine how difficult it has been for those of you with loved ones in countries overseas heavily affected by COVID.... As doctors, we are encouraged by the ‘flattening of the curve’ and the low number of new cases - especially here in Queensland. As citizens, we are encouraged by the Prime Minister’s recent announcement of a ‘3-Step Plan for a COVID-Safe Australia’. However, Step 3 of this Plan only allows for ’non-work gatherings’ or 100 people. For our Mid-Year 10th Anniversary Gala Concert, we need an audience of nearly 1000 to fill Brisbane City Hall - from an entertainment and financial point of view. In view of these limitations - plus the fact that there is no guarantee that we would even progress to Step 3 by the concert date of June 21, the QMO Executive has made the heartbreaking but necessary and correct decision to postpone the Mid-Year 10th Anniversary Gala Concert. A Gala concert like the one we WANT to have deserves to have a full audience of people who are confident of their health and safety and focussed on the entertainment. Ultimately we don’t feel we can deliver that this year :( At this stage, there are positive signs that we may be able to hold the concert in City Hall next year, and we are still crossing all fingers and toes that we will at least be able to take the stage for our Christmas Concert (what a celebration THAT will be!) and we do have the chamber music concert in mid October which has a maximum capacity of around 200 people. This will be sad news for many of you. As the Conductor of the QMO/QMC, I cannot tell you how much I was looking forward to celebrating all the great music and charitable work we have done over the past 10 years. However, the safety of our audience is always our first priority. After all, we are the Queensland MEDICAL Orchestra/Choir. As soon as we know anything about any potential performances later this year, we will be in touch. From all of the QMO Executive, we wish you health and happiness through this difficult time and hope that you are still keeping music a part of your lives. Doctor’s orders! Warm regards, Dr Ryan Williams and the QMO Executive
