24.01.2022 School holidays are drawing to an end. Theres a lot to do for the new school year. Stationery, books, uniforms what about your childs school plan? Is it up to date? This is particularly important for children with diabetes, congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH) or hypopituitarism. Our nurse educator Eunice can help.

22.01.2022 Man boobs are nothing to laugh about, particularly when youre a young fella entering puberty. While male gynaecomastia is not harmful to the body, it can cause stress, embarrassment and loss of self-esteem in young men. The good news is doctors at Queensland Paediatric Endocrinology can help explain, reassure arrange investigations and refer to plastic surgery colleagues if needed.
20.01.2022 While diabetes is not a political football, improved management for children has been placed on the political agenda with the Coalition promising $54M to fund continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) technology for under 21s with T1D. Were all keen to hear what other parties think. Why not use this election campaign to educate your local parliamentarian and their opponents. You are your childs advocate.
20.01.2022 Spiffy for a good cause. The Queensland Paediatric Endocrinology team attended Nuit Blanche - Brisbane JDRF Gala Ball 2016. #findacureT1D

18.01.2022 Happy Australia Day: celebrating a nation of wonderful diversity.
18.01.2022 The campaign for congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH) to be routinely screened in newborns continues. Countries like New Zealand and Sweden have routinely screened for CAH for more than 20 years. It is imperative that children are identified early and treated before a major life-threatening crisis can occur.
17.01.2022 Back to school can mean sniffles, snuffles and bugs, all the more serious for children with endocrine disorders. Watch your child and implement your sick day plan at the earliest sign. Check immunisations are up to date and arrange influenza vaccinations early before the flu season starts.
16.01.2022 Children in the UK are now able to use a glucose monitor scanning system, minimising need for regular finger pricks; enhancing compliance and management of their diabetes. At Queensland Paediatric Endocrinology, were hopeful the TGA will approve this for Australian children (as well as adults) as soon as possible. Who else wants finger prick tests to be a thing of the past for our kids DownUnder? Let the TGA know!
16.01.2022 Does anything here surprise you?
16.01.2022 Diabetes doesnt just happen overnight: it starts long before clinical symptoms show and family members have a 15-fold increased risk. As part of an international research effort, family members can be checked for autoantibodies to see if theyre going to develop the disease. Why bother? Because by finding out earlier, there is no frightening rush to ICU: insulin starts earlier, and diabetes is much easier to manager. Find out where you can be a part of the research at https://www.diabetestrialnet.org/locations/index.htm
15.01.2022 This pea illustrates the size of the thyroid in a baby. So small and yet its function is critical for such much. About 70 babies in Australia are born with congenital hypothyroidism each year, their condition picked up in the routine heel prick test in hospital just after birth. That early detection enables early tretament and allows children to enjoy normal lives. In countries where no screening is carried out, significant handicap results.
