21.01.2022 Then vs Now! Committee technology has come a long way since handwritten notes and meetings. Our committees now use electronic meeting paper software to receive and manage digital meeting papers, and use video conferencing for public meetings and hearings. The ceremony included a mounted police escort, the Governor’s inspection of the guard and speech, and traditional Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander performances! 12.01.2022 It has been over 40 years since the Annexe was added to the parliamentary precinct! Works began in 1975 and it was officially opened by March 1979. The construction of the Annexe was the first major expansion in nearly 90 years! Today, the Annexe is used for Members’ accommodation, offices, committee business, public service seminars and school visits, with some rooms available for hire! 11.01.2022 PSA! The ceremonial Opening of Parliament is taking place from 1.15pm Wednesday at Queensland Parliament. Please be aware of the following impacts: Road closures will be in place on George St between Alice St and QUT from 9am 4pm. All pedestrian access to the area will also be blocked by police from approximately 12.00pm until 2pm. A 19-gun salute will be fired from Kangaroo Point cliffs at 1.40pm for approximately 5 minutes.

The Opening of Parliament usually takes place over 3 days and includes the swearing-in of all Members and election of Speaker, the Governor’s opening speech, a 19-gun salute and royal guard, as well as a Queensland Mounted Police Escort.
