13.01.2022 Its Queensland Road Safety Week Lets start doing our bit to reduce road trauma, and collisions on our road. On average, Australia spends $29.3Billion on road collisions each year. This money could be invested elsewhere, if we just learned to drive safer and had a bit more respect for the people around us.... During my time in the Police, I went to numerous collisions, and sadly, far too many fatals. On the whole, all of them could have been avoided if the driver had made better decisions, its far better to arrive late, than not at all. Below is a graphic image of when things go wrong. I was one of the first on scene at this incident, pitch black, in the middle of the night, in the middle of nowhere. There was a small engine fire which needed extinguishing first, then the scene became reality. Two persons were deceased, two had been flung from the vehicle, and one person remained trapped behind the front passenger (I had to extract this person by standing on the boot, and lifting them vertically onto a back board, then pivoting them over the rear head rest, before falling off the boot, thankfully being caught by a colleague). The cause of so much devastation, 1 drunk driver travelling at around 140km/h, overtaking on a slight left bend, clipping the overtaken vehicle when returning to their lane, loosing control and colliding with a 3 ton block of steps (the steps were hurled around 30 metres down the road). The driver was uninjured in the collision, and later received a 10yr prison sentence for his actions. He had killed his best mate, and a 15 year old girl, both had their whole lives ahead of them. As usual, we advise that you cancel driving lessons if you feel unwell, as well as showing signs and symptoms of COVID-19.... If you have been tested for COVID-19 and are awaiting results, you should be self isolating, so please cancel your lesson. We have all seen how quickly this virus can move from what is occurring in Victoria at present, and how easily all of our hard work can be undone.
