21.01.2022 BEWARE! WE HAVE DISCOVERED THAT QUEENSLAND HOMEOWNERS ARE BEING MISLED BY SOME SMOKE ALARM PROVIDERS WHEN IT COMES TO HOW MANY SMOKE ALARMS ARE REQUIRED IN DWELLINGS TO COMPLY WITH THE NEW DOMESTIC SMOKE ALARM LEGISLATION. You are not obligated to install interconnected smoke alarms in an office or studio. ... You are only obligated to install smoke alarms in each bedroom and in the hallway that connects the bedroom to the rest of the dwelling and there must be at least one smoke alarm on all other levels that don't have a bedroom. If a room is not a bedroom on the house plans, and not used as a bedroom, it is not a bedroom. (and subsequently does not require a smoke alarm). Whilst these are the new smoke alarm laws this isn't to say you can't have more smoke alarms installed than the legal requirement. Call 1800 548 372 or visit www.queenslandsmokealarms.com.au

17.01.2022 QUEENSLAND LANDLORD ALERT! WE'VE NOTICED THAT QUEENSLANDERS ARE BEING GIVEN INCORRECT INFORMATION FROM SOME PROPERTY MANAGERS AND SMOKE ALARM SERVICE PROVIDERS. Don't believe that you must upgrade your smoke alarms by 1.1.22. Compliance is not required until 30 days before your next lease renewal in 2022. Upgrading also satisfies your smoke maintenance obligations so make sure you advise your property manager or smoke alarm maintenance provider if you are upgrading to avoid being charged for this as well and at the same time. Call 1800 548 372 or visit www.queenslandsmokealarms.com.au We understand the laws and are here to help.
