Sir, If I may speak freely please, this is a nice picture of you and your loved one Mrs Hurley, going about your business at an evening function in Sydney. This is also a picture of me watching your back, protecting you from any political act of embarrassment, or criminal act of harm or danger. I always enjoyed working for you. Thank you. . As your Law Enforcement - Protection Officer, my job was to identify risks, stop anything or anyone interfering with your and Mrs Hurley's safety and comfort, and I can assure you Sir, I was equipped and ready and would go above and beyond to ensure all this in the execution of my duties. . Sir, What you may not know is, I was under your Command when you were Chief of Defence Force. I was a Commando within the Special Operations Task Group and served in Combat and like many, was awarded the Meritorious Unit Citation that was awarded to Task Force 66 (Special Operations Task Group IV - XX). I never told you about my service Sir, respecting our professional positions. . Respectfully, now many of us (my loved ones of our Regiment), are expecting you to watch our backs, protect us from any political act being the decision whether to revoke the Meritorious Unit Citation awarded to the Special Operations Task Group. This decision rests solely with your Constitutional Power. I ask that you give this the full consideration it warrants and understand the effects all this has on the vast majority of the SOTG member's due to 'claims or allegations made' about a minority, a small minority. . The Prime Minister - PM Mr Scott Morrison has stated today that ..."this should be dealt with under the Laws of Australia"... and as such, the rights of all members should be upheld. I see everyday the rights of accused people being used in accordance with Laws and Legislation of our country. Why now are innocent, ethical and courageous members of SOTG being dealt with as if they have done something wrong? The onus of proof is upon the Prosecution to prove offences against the 'accused person/s', not all those caught under the cloud that IGADF and the media have cast over us!! . I speak for many of the Special Operations Community, and with all due respects to all, the current CDF has categorically made a wrong and unjustified recommendation in my mind and the minds of many. Understanding the "group mentality" that CDF talks of in his press conference, there is no way that any member I worked with should even fall into this category. Very unwarranted and very unfair. . Sir, We are relying on your better judgement to deny this most questionable recommendation and ensure the right decision is made. That those, if responsible of any crimes are dealt with and those of us and our families who have given so much; and more importantly those who have given or lost their lives in this or as a result of this campaign; that have earnt this award, are justifiably exempt from any such decision to revoke the SOTG Meritorious Unit Citation. With all due respect Sir! Thank you.
