13.01.2022 Usually when we post a picture of an anemone, the key focus is the little orange guy (he's cute, we don't blame you!) However, without Nemo to distract, you can really appreciate the structure of the anemone; the soft tentacles that get caught by the oceans restless current. The barbs that protrude from the Lionfish contain a toxin that can cause intense pain for humans- not a good way to spend your day on the Great Barrier Reef! 06.01.2022 When you live and work in one of the most remarkable natural environments on the planet, it’s only natural (see what we did there?) to protect it! Our conservation and stewardship activities are on steroids over the next few months as we engage in a very significant initiative made possible by funding through the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority as part of the Australian Government’s COVID Recovery and Relief Fund. Our expert teams of marine biologists and divers wil...l be visiting up to 78 of the Quicksilver Group’s major tourism and remote reef sites. In addition to Reef Health Impact and Eye on the Reef monitoring surveys, we’re also ‘hunting’ for any coral predators such as the Crown of Thorns Starfish and Drupella snails, and removing them from the reef where we find any. This important work will support and help improve reef resilience and data collected will in turn help make important management decisions within the marine park. After months of careful planning, the world watched on as Quicksilver Marine Biologist, Wendy Craig-Duncan took the torch underwater for three minutes in an Olympic first! The torch itself had to be modified for the conditions, specially designed to carry a flare that would burn at 2,000 celsius underwater while still lo...oking as similar to the regular flame as possible.
