25.01.2022 One month. Lots of improvements.

25.01.2022 I really should share results more often. It always blows me away - the power of food! More specifically, the power of personalised nutrition and a holistic approach to health. I’ve enjoyed working with this amazing lady.

21.01.2022 Have you heard of the HTMA test? It’s often misinterpreted - high levels don’t always mean your body has adequate or excessive levels of those minerals. We excrete nutrients in our hair so high levels in the hair often means a loss. You can see how this would be problematic with treatment. You’d be cutting back on something you desperately need. It’s also much more important to focus on the ratio of important minerals than individual levels. The human body is so wonderfully complex. What a machine! #nutrition #htma #hairtissuemineranalysis #health #wellbeing #functionalmedicine #nutritionist

18.01.2022 You know what’s a really easy way to get your weekend off to a good start? A delivery of Kittelty's cakes! And, yes - you can order gluten and dairy free as well. These are super clean (no undesirable ingredients) and have the nutritionist’s tick of approval. ... My only regret is not getting a photo that does them justice before the kids got to them ...

17.01.2022 While I am listed in the low carb practitioners’ directory and definitely do well myself when I’m limiting carbs to an extent (the opposite of what I’ve done year to date #goawaycovid) - I don’t believe low carb, high fat suits everyone. Removing refined carbohydrates, however, DOES suit everyone, but limiting fresh veg just because carrots and potatoes are higher on the carb scale DOES NOT suit everyone. Upping your fat intake - even natural, healthy fats - DOES NOT suit everyone. Working out a strategy that works for each of us is key. Don’t just follow what works for someone else - they’re not you. #health #nutrition #wellness #nutritionist #functionalmedicine #functionalnutrition #nutritionalmedicine #personalisednutrition

17.01.2022 When it comes to predicting health risk, what's more important: what you eat or what you weigh? It looks like it could be the former, according to a large new study from Sweden, published in PLOS Medicine last week.

16.01.2022 A diamond is much nicer than a triangle!

16.01.2022 Have you always thought that chiropractic is just treatment for a sore back? I consider chiropractic adjustments a key component of disease prevention. It’s not just care for your back! I love this graphic at Tri Chiropractic Ballarat, showing which part of your vertebrae correlates with potential health concerns. Your chiro will be able to tell you things about your body that you may not even be aware of. It’s always fascinated me as a health modality. A skilled chiropra...ctor will be a key partner in your health journey. We’ve been having regular adjustments for over 10 years now (since I was pregnant with Asha - wow!) and we really notice if we skip an appointment. Life is never too busy for a quick adjustment. Book online with Dr Frank if you haven’t yet found your skilled and caring chiro. #health #nutrition #nutritionist #wellbeing #ballarat See more

16.01.2022 Emu oil, used in the current study, has the potential to alleviate disease severity and promote intestinal repair in a mouse model of Crohn’s-like colitis. The new findings from this manuscript, whereby emu oil attenuated disease severity from clinical scores and colonoscopy results, add to the literature of inflammatory bowel disease mouse models and support the therapeutic potential of emu oil. This research may advance the progression to clinical trials and ultimately the commercialization of emu oil as an adjunctive or alternative therapy for the detrimental inflammatory bowel diseases. https://journals.sagepub.com/d/abs/10.1177/1535370220951105

15.01.2022 I'm sure I've thanked you all personally but, once again, I want to express how thankful I am to those of you who've taken the time to share your experience. <3 I know when I am looking for a health practitioner to work with - or any professional service, really - I check out what others have to say to get a vibe for what it might be like to work with that person. It really does help to get an idea of what the process might be like. So thanks again to those who've done it for... me! I enjoy seeing the amazing results that are testament to your commitment. http://www.quintessentialnutrition.com.au/testimonials

15.01.2022 I wanted to change my nutrition-related quotes each week but I haven’t found one that applies to most people better than this one! Sometimes we do have to cut things out of our diet. Sometimes it’s temporary. Sometimes it’s long term. Mostly though, there’s a happy middle ground where you can eat nourishing food all the time and occasionally eat something that you know won’t make you feel amazing. There’s a difference between that empowered place of feeling healthy enough to deviate from your optimal way of eating and feeling crappy most of the time and not knowing which foods work for you. If you’d like my help working those things out - book an appointment using the link in my profile. #nutrition #nutritionist #nourish #health #functionalnutrition #nutritionalmedicine #wellbeing #guthealth #foodintolerances

14.01.2022 Hi everyone! I’m Tania. I’m a qualified nutritionist in private practice here in Ballarat, Victoria. I found my love of nutrition late in life. Prior to this, my favourite job was as a technical writer, which I gave up to move to Australia with my husband. I also worked in sales (so not me!), and did various other odd jobs. At University, alllll the way back in the 90s, I studied Law, French, and Linguistics. I ended up dropping law (mostly intimidated by all the law student...s who were much more confident and worldly than me ) but completed my BA with Honours. I had intended to enter the diplomatic corps due to an affinity for languages at a young age. It turns out life had different plans. I’m so glad I was blessed with my three beautiful children. Many of you know about their food allergies and intolerances - which was what led me to study nutrition, after all. People scoff sometimes, you know, about the way others choose to eat. I’m never quite sure why it bothers them!! I know some see it as an inconvenience or perhaps a judgement of the way THEY eat. Thankfully my friends and my kids’ friends (and parents) are so accommodating to us and always go out of their way to provide food that makes them feel a part of the family. Trust me - we would NOT be doing this for fun. It’s really hard to go against the grain and avoid foods that are considered fundamental to the Australian diet. If you could get rid of eczema, bladder issues, sleep issues, anxiety, ‘growing pains’, joint pains, lack of hair growth, ‘failure to thrive’, focus and behavioural issues, constant colds and ear infections, and improve your health for good - would you change the way you ate? I hadn’t intended to before I had my children but, thanks to them, I have and I don’t regret it - no matter how hard it’s been at times. Please don’t let others make you feel bad for the choices you make about YOUR health. You have my support to make these tough choices, even if you’re not one of my clients. I know how hard it is but our health is worth the effort.

13.01.2022 It’s still shocking to me that it’s December - let alone only a few weeks until Christmas!! I’ve just added a few more days of availability for pre-Christmas / NY nutrition guidance. It’s good to get a jump on your health before the period of new year, new me starts. It doesn’t have to be a New Year’s resolution. Your health should be a priority every day of the year.

12.01.2022 At your first appointment, we'll find a time - usually one week later - to go through our plan of attack and discuss the whats, whys and hows. Treatment technically begins at that second appointment. If you book online, might I suggest booking your Initial Consultation and Report of Findings appointments at the same time? They need to be a week apart, so, if you can, grab the same time slot two weeks in a row - that way you're guaranteed not have to wait longer than week to get your plan under way! :) If it suits your finances better, you could even book the two appointments a couple of weeks apart - gives me even more time to put one of my novels together for you. <3

12.01.2022 I’m outraged.

12.01.2022 Here’s a documentary to watch that might reignite some hope and positivity. I loved it! The film is so well done and addresses how we can feed the world, and at the same time, how we can improve the health of our planet and those who live on it. https://sacredcow.info/

11.01.2022 In a speech to the National Press Club on Tuesday, Dr Muecke said it was terrible thing few people knew diabetes could be prevented and even reversed by changing their diet. "Isn't it your right to know type 2 diabetes doesn't have to be a progressive life sentence?" he said. Instead, Dr Muecke said we were being let down by "flawed" national dietary guidelines and a lack of understanding from experts that type 2 diabetes did not have to be a lifelong condition.... https://www.smh.com.au//australian-of-the-year-says-dietar

08.01.2022 Collagen ... bone broth ... por qué no los dos? For the record, all my clients regularly consuming bone broth do see improvements in their skin and gut health. Big fan here. Via FoundMyFitness... We just released a new article on hydrolyzed collagen! Collagens type I, II, and III are typically hydrolyzed and utilized as oral supplements, which have demonstrated promise in improving skin health, decreasing joint pain due to arthritis or athletic injury, and ameliorating hypertension. Let's talk skin health. Multiple randomized controlled trials have shown that oral supplementation with hydrolyzed collagen improves skin elasticity, wrinkles, and more. Hydrolyzed collagen supplementation may also reduce pain and disability in people with arthritis and may be an affordable and effective strategy for treating the symptoms associated with the condition. Clinical studies suggest that hydrolyzed collagen might be beneficial for healthy people, too especially athletes, who often experience activity-related joint pain. Getting from collagen to hydrolyzed collagen, also referred to as collagen peptides or collagen hydrolysate, takes a little work. Collagen proteins have to be denatured, or broken down, into smaller amino acid chains (called peptides) by heating or enzymatic treatment a process called hydrolysis. Hydrolyzed collagens are widely available as dietary supplements. The hydrolyzed collagens in supplements can be derived from a wide range of animal sources, such as cows, pigs, and chickens. Of course, you could try to cook up your own collagen in a batch of homemade bone broth. However, evidence suggests that the key amino acids in collagens differ substantially in various bone broth preparations compared to hydrolyzed collagen supplements, which are pretty standardized. Another benefit of hydrolyzed collagens: They might be absorbed faster and more efficiently than undenatured collagen. Once absorbed, some animal research suggests some of the collagen peptides appear to be directly deposited in tissues such as cartilage and skin. This is important because once there, they can aid in tissue growth or repair. There are other surprising benefits that have been found in clinical studies such as bone health and more! One useful section in this article I’d like to call out is the section called dosage and correspondent effects, which summarize all of the various dosages and their effects used across studies mentioned in the article in one place. It’s a great TL;DR. Hope you enjoy the comprehensive article on hydrolyzed collagen that the FMF team and I put together!

07.01.2022 Sometimes it doesn’t take one month ... it takes two.

03.01.2022 The researchers found that isolation can significantly increase anxiety levels, thus inducing bone loss in human subjects. Biochemical analysis showed that prolonged isolation increases the concentration of norepinephrine and decreases osteogenic markers in serum. These changes were consistent with the observation of elevated anxiety and reduced bone formation in subjects.

02.01.2022 There is still a very prevalent belief that cows milk is absolutely necessary for bone health... there are other studies as well as this one showing the opposite. Considering it’s one of the most common food sensitivities I see, perhaps it’s time to think about if it works for you.

01.01.2022 This must-see documentary is available to watch for free for the next week!
