20.01.2022 GARDEN PARTY CELEBRATION QHS Year 12 students and their partners celebrated the completion of their schooling at an elegant Garden Party event in the school grounds tonight. Year 12 Year Adviser, Miss Cooper gave a celebratory speech, as did Principal Worley.... You have now graduated, signed out and are starting to make your way into the outside world. Since the last time I stood in front of you giving a speech you have prepared for and sat your HSC exams, said Miss Cooper, who added You have achieved something very special you have completed your secondary schooling. You set yourself a goal and have seen it through to the end. Now we get to celebrate that achievement. Due to the COVID restrictions, QHS had to be a little creative and the ovely weather, sparkly lights and good company provided a great evening. We are able to be together, to invite some special guests to help celebrate and mark the end of your schooling in style. Enjoy a picnic, have a cupcake and groove to some music. Just keep your distance if you get the urge to dance, added Miss Cooper. A number of people worked very hard to put this event together. I’d like to thank Mr Worley and Ms Loughrey for green lighting our gathering, our media team, Sally and Lauren for putting all this together, also Lauren for co-ordinating the event and Sally for the photos, Jackson Worley and James Craswell for the music, Kathy Crouch, Renee Chappell and Megan Medway our lovely meal and Lindi Owen for the delicious cupcakes. Enjoy the evening, the atmosphere and the music. Year 12, you made it! Now, sit back, relax and soak it in. 16.01.2022 WELL DONE FAITH In a year of COVID restrictions its inspirational to see QHS Year 7 student, Faith Green achieve her goals both on and off the field. The talented youngster, was recently announced as a member of the Open Girls Softball team for Combined High Schools. The average age of her team peers is 16, so for Faith to have been selected at the young age of 13 is a true indication of her talent.... Faith will be heading to Curl Curl, in Sydney in early 2021 for the Softball team and is looking forward to expanding her skills. Not one to shy away from a challenge, Faith also recently collected the gong for ‘Hockey Player with Most Potential’ and was awarded ‘Highest Goal Scorer’ in the Under 13 - Division One - at her clubs hockey presentation night, where she also played for the Under 15 Girls side. As a keen Rugby player, Faith’s supportive family enjoyed watching her on recent Live-streaming of her matches. Faith is pretty humble about her achievements. When she sets her mind to something, she makes it happen and we are proud of her. We are also grateful for my Mum's (Rosemary) support, said Faiths' mother and proud former QHS Student, Tanya Green (Sorby), who continued the family appreciates the opportunities on offer for Faith at QHS. She really enjoys the QHS Cattle Club as she has her own cattle stud at home, called ‘Green Machine Santa Gertrudis’. She started the stud just over 12 months ago with four heifers - two who just produced a bull calf each. It’s terrific the school has the Cattle Club as it’s really beneficial for Faith. Congratulations Faith on all you have achieved in your first year of high school, you’re an inspiration to many and we look forward to supporting you into the future.

13.01.2022 FANTASTIC FOOTBALL QHS students attended a Rugby League Development Day in Tamworth today. It was a great day, it was hot at this time of the year and the students participated well and took a lot away from the day, said QHS Teacher Mr Chambers.... Attending today was also a great way to showcase the students current skills. The day commenced with students doing skills and drills, including catch and passing, ball play and running lines. They then broke into mixed school teams with students from other schools, then, played two tackle games each. Students showed great defence and strong teamwork in their playing, a real credit to the grounding they have gained from Friday Night’s Rugby events. Today is a precursor for next year, when the schools get back together for a Gala Day and from that, students can attend development squads. The girls will have the opportunity to potentially be selected for North West and other teams around the state, it’s our aim to continue the pathways for students including those wanting to play at a higher level, said Mr Chambers. Well done students: Hayley Morris, Sarah Edwards, Amelia Seymour, Isabella Dodds, Charlotte Cowan , Annabelle Carter, Scarlett Slade, Faith Green, Evie Gimbert and Miley Clark. Thank you to Mr Chambers for supporting students in following their sporting passion.

12.01.2022 LEARNING THROUGH IMMERSION Did you know Biomes are a large naturally occurring community of flora and fauna occupying a major habitat, such as a forest or the tundra. QHS Geography students are currently studying a topic on Biomes, related to different environments. ... What better way to study about the environment than getting out of the traditional classroom and into the environment. This is exactly what Practicum student Pearl Harbour did with the Year 9 class she is instructing at the moment. On a walk around Quirindi, Ms Harbour noticed all of the information boards placed along the walking track beside the creek, and that these boards had information relating to the local plants and animals in the vicinity. So, she designed a unique learning experience associated with the boards that the students could use to help their understanding of the importance of Biomes. The students enjoyed learning about the environment through immersion in it.

Due to the nature of the works that need to be carried out, it does mean that a number of classrooms will be without cooling for next week and possibly the following week. The Bureau of Meteorology has predicted heatwave conditions... throughout next week. Please ensure that your child is prepared for the heat wave conditions, knowing that he or she may be in a room without an operating cooling system. Regards Ian Worley Principal Quirindi High School
