19.01.2022 This is my moodboard for my new ‘Country Living’ collection. I was rather keen to try a pattern clash of stripes and florals and was very much drawn to William Morris’s traditional flowers, a renowned nineteenth century British designer. I also really love the English stately homes with luxurious sculptures and roaming peacocks. I wanted to bring an essence of nobility into this pattern and country living with a touch of the exotic. I did enjoy a walk through the Sydney Botan...ical Gardens to collect visual inspiration as well. The brief for this collection was provided via the @makeitindesign challenge which I’m still working on and was helpful in providing an initial list of resources to use as inspiration. I am excited to see where this pattern might take me. Have you created any designs of your own based on pattern clashing? And how did you find it? Or do you simply love the contrast of stripes and florals and can’t get enough of it. #quirkyturkeycreative #makeitindesign #makeitindesignwinterschool2021 #winterschool2021 #patternclash #patternclashing #patterncollections #patterndesigns #moodboardinterior #sydneybotanicalgardens

17.01.2022 I wanted some motifs that would contrast with the rigidity of the vertical stripes so set about researching vines and landed upon this unusual flower which I was quite taken with. It’s the passion fruit flower and was perfect for my country clash collection. I had fun sketching this flower as it felt tropical and a little on the eccentric side with its odd helicopter looking top bit and all those little filaments spiralling out. What a wonderful flower and I do so love passio...n fruit so a perfect outcome to my continuing journey. Do you love to draw unusual flowers or fruit that you love to eat? #stationarydesigns #fabricdesign #homedecordesigns #humphreysmanly #passionfruitflower #strippattern #grahamandbrown #miltonandking #walldecor #surfacepatterndesigner #sydneybotanicalgardens #surfacepatterndesigns #makeitindesign #makeitindesignwinterschool2021 #quirkyturkeycreative

13.01.2022 Do you like to reupholster antique chairs? Or have a passion to stylise your personal space with home décor that’s a little quirky and playful? Could you image this fabric on your chairs or sofa? So many questions for a themed fabric that charms and will transport you off into unexplored medieval fanciful lands of fair maidens and gallant jousters. It’s been an exciting journey to bring this pattern to life. I enjoyed sketching the illustrative characters and the geometric b...ackdrop to complete the pattern. I researched the history of that period and couldn’t do without the inclusion of the Fleur de lis to add a touch of nobility with a deep royal blue to set the scene, not your average vintage chair, with story-telling qualities. It’s been fun to mock-up this design just to get an idea of where this fabric would best sit in an endless list of possible surfaces. I think it sits well on home décor and men’s fashion shirts, and stationary too. Where do you image this fabric could best be placed? Do you like the medieval theme? Be sure to visit my Pinterest page to see more mock-ups of this design. #quirkeyturkeycreative #medievalpattern #vintagechairs #vintagechairlove #fabricmockup #chairmockup #artforlicensing #digitalartistoninstagram #fabricpatterns #patterndesigner

06.01.2022 I’ve been designing some motifs for my Country Clash collection with the contrast of strong straight lines against the flowing contour of flowers and a cheeky zebra peeking out in defiance of the stripes. I started with the ‘Asiatic Lilly’ as my central piece and continued to add a floral composition running along the stripes and bulging at the middle. I was drawn to the ‘Heliconia Lobster Claw’ as it so elegantly dropped from the middle and then I added the ‘Bird of Paradise...’ growing up from the floral composition. I’ve had fun drawing these flowers and learning their names. I couldn’t resist the addition of hummingbirds. This collection seems to have gained a momentum and life of its own. I have more to do, and I am yet to discover if this pattern will reveal itself to me or I to it. The creative process is not always straight forward. Have you ever started out with an intention and then found your pattern seems to have evolved just when you thought you were its creator? #stripepattern #tropicalflowers #asiaticlilly #birdofparadiseflower #heliconialobsterclaw #hummingbirdpattern #countrylivinghome #designcollection #digitalillustration #zebradesign #patternforlicensing #freelancedesigner #patternclash #thepatterncurator #patternandprint #patternobserver #surfacepatterndesigns #makeitindesign #makeitindesignwinterschool2021 #quirkyturkeycreative #rocketlady #ladystartups #quirkyturkeycreative

02.01.2022 These are a few of my initial sketches around the subject of Country Living with view to creating a pattern clash of stripes and florals. I imagined a zebra with stripes spilling out from his stripy coat across the pattern with his little face peeking through a beautiful overlay of floral lace. It already sounds a bit crazy and it’s only just the discovery phase so lots of play is required before deciding upon my final motifs. I was also keen to experiment with a stripe overl...ay of peacock feathers and a geometric grid running down the pattern as well as a full peacock and sculpture also running down the pattern. At this point I’m full of new ideas and have yet to narrow now my motifs and the type of pattern I am creating. I have yet to decide upon the colour application from my pallet to my pattern elements. Do you have a colour approach that you have adopted that is working for you? Do you like to include elements of illustration into your patterns? Are you drawn to illustrative patterns? #countrylivinghome #designcollection #digitalillustration #zebradesign #peacockfeatherpattern #patternforlicensing #freelancedesigner #patternclash #surfacepatterndesigns #makeitindesign #makeitindesignwinterschool2021 #quirkyturkeycreative
