17.01.2022 The new year comes with heaps of pressure to change. You're supposed to set goals, kill bad habits, perfect new healthy ones, and become the best possible version of you. Every single year. You see headings like this all over the media, making you question whether you're good enough as you are. Let me clarify that for you right here right now. You are good enough exactly the way you are. You don't need to change or improve unless you want to. You are more than enough being wh...o you are and living life the way you want to live it. Yet, if you do want to reflect on the future, and set some plans in motion, opt for intentions over goals and for progress over perfection. How? 15.01.2022 Express your emotions! With sayings such as ‘she’ll be right’ and ‘no worries’ part of our daily vernacular, it seems that our society rates positivity highly. But if you’re having a tough time, stifling negative emotions doesn’t make them go away and could actually be unhealthy. A series of studies over the past few decades show that suppressing your emotions can and does affect your body and your mind. In fact, a 2013 study by the Harvard School of Public Health and the Uni...versity of Rochester showed people who bottled up their emotions increased their chance of premature death from all causes by more than 30%, with their risk of being diagnosed with cancer increasing by 70%. 12.01.2022 Quiron Psychology wishes everyone an amazing end of the year and festive season! This year has been without a doubt challenging to everyone, however challenging times are specially helpful to help us understand ourselves, each other and our planet better! What did Covid-19, Isolation, Social Distancing, mental health challenges, and all the other new experiences we went through taught you?... What new ways of being, relating and thinking were forced to be created? What do they serve for? What are the values behind these new ways? Be gentle on yourself when recapping the year. We absolutely all had to change plans and steer in new directions. What do you want for next year? What parts of yourself do you want to express more firmly and often next year? Any new habits you want to start developing? Are your goals realistic? Are you pushing and criticizing yourself too much? Are you listening to your own harsh thoughts? Can you just let them go? The world we live in desperately needs more kindness, we all need some love and care at times, so give it to yourself! Self-care is not only about exercise and skin care, its also about being kind towards our own pain and flaws! Try it out! Remember that good quality food, enough water, physical activity, quality sleep and emotional expression are the keys for a good mental health, even through tough times! May you all have a wonderful 2021! I hope you can all appreciate how privileged we are for living in Australia, particularly in Queensland. I certainly feel very grateful! Let's try to use our privilege wisely! Love, Gustavo Gallo Bolzani Psychologist To get in contact with us, txt/call 0420 647 701. 05.01.2022 Warning signs of Mental Health issues: Mental illness rarely appears out of the blue, instead one usually begin to recognize small changes or a feeling that something is not quite right about their thinking, feelings or behavior before an illness appears in its full-blown form. Learning about developing symptoms, or early warning signs, and taking action can help. Here are some of them:... o Sleep or appetite changes Dramatic sleep and appetite changes or decline in personal care o Mood changes Rapid or dramatic shifts in emotions or depressed feelings o Withdrawal Recent social withdrawal and loss of interest in activities previously enjoyed o Drop in functioning An unusual drop in functioning, at school, work or social activities, such as quitting sports, failing in school or difficulty performing familiar tasks o Problems thinking Problems with concentration, memory or logical thought and speech that are hard to explain o Increased sensitivity Heightened sensitivity to sights, sounds, smells or touch; avoidance of over-stimulating situations o Apathy Loss of initiative or desire to participate in any activity o Feeling disconnected A vague feeling of being disconnected from oneself or one’s surroundings; a sense of unreality o Illogical thinking Unusual or exaggerated beliefs about personal powers to understand meanings or influence events; illogical or magical thinking typical of childhood in an adult o Nervousness Fear or suspiciousness of others or a strong nervous feeling o Unusual behaviour Odd, uncharacteristic, peculiar behaviour. One or two of these symptoms alone do not mean one have a mental health illness, however it points out to the early stages of the onset. And the earlier we intervene, the quicker and smoother the recovery. All the symptoms should also be considered in light of what impacts it has in terms of the person’s functionality (ie: studies, work, relationships, community, etc).
