18.01.2022 Congratulations to our Optometry supervisor and researcher, Rebecca Cox, on coming runner-up in QUTs 3-minute thesis finals! Rebecca explained why eye tests are so important for children, especially Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children in remote areas: I tested the eyes of nearly 300 primary and high school children, and found that the 40 per cent of children who identified as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander were much less likely to have their eyes tested an...d 82 per cent who needed glasses did not have them. To ensure each Australian childs learning is maximised and help stop preventable blindness we must improve access to eye care services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children. --- Every year at Back to School Health Checks, we find that around 1/3 of children seen by Optometry need further vision assessment. Give us a call on 3138 9777 if youd like to book your children in for January.
