25.01.2022 Taking QUT principles to the real world and advancing education through digital literacy, congratulations, Mark Kenneth Camiling from the Philippines, winner of Impact Stories (September 2020)! "My brief stint at QUT (Queensland University of Technology) as a fellow opened many opportunities to enhance my craft as an educator-researcher. From the invaluable mentorship of its esteemed faculty to inspiring community immersion experiences, QUT has given me different lenses to vi...ew learning and teaching. When I returned to my country, which has become my very own QUT, I was able to reach career milestones: serving as a key school leader, publishing researches and textbooks that foster digital literacy, presenting studies in international conferences, finishing graduate studies, and conducting face-to-face and online professional development trainings for teachers. And even now that I am about to pursue a doctoral degree in international development in Japan, the QUT experience still resonates inspiring me to continue studying and championing digital literacy for the advancement of education, especially in the context of the new normal." #impactstories Australia Awards #DigitalLiteracy #Education #NewNormal #QUT #Philippines #AustraliaAwards See more
24.01.2022 ""I was a young Executive Director of the National Research Council of the Philippines (NRCP) when I attended the QUT Executive Leadership Program. I thought I possessed most leadership skills, having then served administrative positions at the University of the Philippines where I was a College Dean. This entirely changed after my QUT training: Leadership is contextual; is envisioning while being grounded; is making change happen, and making transformations work for/with p...eople. Through concerted/collaborative efforts, I knew that I shall lead to attain both Hooray (work achievements) and Haha (non-work satisfaction) feelings. With these realizations, my re-entry plan was guided by the resolve to heighten the promotion of basic research, widen research results utilization for advancement of disciplinal knowledge, and support evidence-based policymaking. I drafted a schema on NRCP’s transformative directions. I crafted two 3-year proposals, and received funding of PHP 107M. These aim to (1) increase the number of researchers in the country, capacitate and improve their scientific productivity, (2) and translate research results to platforms dove-tailed for specific users." - Marieta Sumagaysay, Philippines Executive Leadership Program #impactstories #STEM #Leadership #Research
24.01.2022 "The 'Project Management & Negotiation Skills' course at QUT has equipped me in managing complex/ critical environments, take on challenges, handle risks, and create innovative plans which resulted favorable outcomes. It has motivated me to encourage others to participate in income generating activities. To apply my knowledge, I got involved in a very renowned organization: Amrai Pari Amrai Parbo. This organization creates employment for the disadvantaged. During the COVID-19... pandemic, I encouraged the members of this organization to start an online training facility so that volunteers can be equipped to help more poor people. The outcome resulted in an efficient online training and also helped the members to generate income by becoming IT trainers. -Farida Nasreen, Syed Hasan Tareq, and Syed Hasan Shabnaz, Bangladesh Project Management and Negotiation Skills Development #impactstories #AustraliaAwards #projectmanagement

20.01.2022 "My immersion and exposures to the leadership programs in QUT transformed me to be passionate, excellent and service-oriented. Typhoon Haiyan broke loose in November 2013; our school housed 3,000 evacuees and provided relief medical assistance. I also gave a testimony at a Charity Banquet in Paris to rally more help. To pursue excellence amidst crisis, I established Honor Society for tutorial programs, strengthened the academics, and supported varsity teams. My students gai...ned international awards in robotics, research and informatics. The Breakthrough Junior Challenge won by one of my students in 2017 bagged $400K and a scholarship at MIT. This COVID-19 pandemic, I conducted outreach programs to areas severely affected by the COVID disease and natural disasters. I spearheaded the establishment of academic kiosks in the municipalities to give remote students access to virtual learning. A Mamanwa tribe member deeply touched me, saying LNU has helped us foster the love for education through its intensive outreach programs in the promotion of quality of life and education amongst us. -Reynaldo Garnace, Philippines Strengthening Education Leadership in the Philippines High School System, Australia Leadership Awards Fellowships #impactstories #AustraliaAwards #education #leadership #COVID19

17.01.2022 "Sharing her thoughts on sign language, #AustraliaAwards #Nepal alumna Dipawali Sharma, who is also a Project Officer at Nawalaparasi Association of the Deaf says, 'In Nepal, Nepali Sign Language is not yet designated as an official language. Many parents of deaf people are still not aware of the need of learning sign language to communicate with their deaf family members. As a result, deaf people run the risk of living without proper communication, missing many opportunities and sometimes suffering from mental health problems. In this regard, the International Day of Sign Languages plays a vital role to spread awareness about the communication way of deaf people around the world' Happy International Day Of Sign Languages!"

15.01.2022 "I run Bhutan Molay Travels, an exclusively Bhutanese female owned and operated company that works with other Bhutanese women, homeowners, hoteliers, guides, groups and entrepreneurs across the country. My initial business idea was simply to get clients and focus on customers, but things changed when I attended the Business Acceleration for Entrepreneurs program delivered by QUT. I was introduced to the whole world of entrepreneurs and met people, went to places, and listene...d to many inspiring and encouraging entrepreneurs. Within a short span of time, I found a clear direction how I should add value to my product. Covid-19 has affected the world and Bhutan is no exception. #Tourism in Bhutan was especially hard hit. Offices had to be closed and staff were laid off because there was no income. I started a hotel to back up my travel company but that too had to be closed. We offered our hotel instead for the government to use as a quarantine facility for people coming from abroad. Currently, the travel industry is still at halt but I have re-opened my hotel to the locals. We hired people who recently lost their jobs and we plan to give more job opportunities to other locals." -Seldon, Bhutan #Business Acceleration for #Entrepreneurs #impactstories #AustraliaAwards #AASWA
14.01.2022 By integrating ethics with style, Lenny Agustin is transforming fashion for herself and many young girls in Indonesia. Congratulations for winning #ImpactStories (September 2020)! "My Australia Awards experience at QUT (Queensland University of Technology) opened my mind to greater possibilities. I was exposed to many designers who highlight indigenous art and craft in their work and make it the strength of their brand. I was inspired to look beyond and reach out to the you...nger generation. After the program, I diversified my products and reached new heights in fashion. I am now able to advocate for ethical fashion and help ethnic communities, especially young girls, while pursuing growth for my business, enrich my brand and increase business performance this gave me deeper happiness. Learning at QUT also motivated me to pursue further education, because education is a lifelong journey that allows us to grow I am currently on my PhD journey. Ultimately, I now have more confidence to share my passion for fashion, pursue a lifelong learning journey and contribute to impactful transformation." #fashion #Indonesia #indigenousfashion #ethicalfashion #AustraliaAwards #QUT
13.01.2022 "I was just a mere teacher from the province, but QUT made a big impact on my life! I came back inspired to bring home what I learned and experienced. This mere teacher was transferred to the DepEd Region VI as Education Program Supervisor in the Quality Assurance Division-- a 360 degree-shift from an ordinary classroom work to supervisory work where I would travel to twenty (20) divisions and monitor their schools. Later on, I was chosen as one of the trainers/facilitators ...of DepEd Philippines in Quality Assurance Technical Assistance Monitoring and Evaluation (QATAME) where I would travel around the country: to train educators. It was truly tiring and sometimes our bodies would clamour because of tiredness from work and long, successive travels. But I endured all that because of the love of work and the inspiration I radiated on to others. QUT honed me to widen my horizon and inspired me to work even more. The leadership skills I gained has been cascaded to others in the academe. I want to keep going because I am a part of QUT and I’m rooting for you my dear alma matter, to inspire others because of your existence." - Nueva P. 13.01.2022 QUT (Queensland University of Technology) continues to invest in women's leadership because of stories like this. Congratulations, Dow Luexaxouayang from Laos, winner of Impact Stories- September 2020. "I’ve learnt a lot of things from QUT that changed my thoughts and opened my eyes to greater things. My women’s leadership training led me to practising good leadership and becoming a role model for my colleagues, students and family. After graduating, I particularly chose to ...work with a non-government organisation that supported education, where I can help communities foster confidence, communication and leadership among children. Now, I am working with pre-primary schools in rural areas with 20 target schools and four ethnic groups: Hmong, Yao, Khmu and Lao. I introduced new pedagogy at schools, which saw improvement in many children after just one year. To cite an example, I have a student who used to be very shy and had no friends, but later gained confidence and social skills and was even voted head of their class! More importantly, children can now dream and see a successful version of themselves in the future. They proudly share the same goal as mine: a better education for ALL children in Laos." 13.01.2022 "Prior to my QUT training, our industry engagement was one-sided. Construction companies provided placement for our learners to undertake industrial training, but the Institution (Roads Training Centre) was not doing anything in return. At QUT, I learned about industry engagement strategies that are mutually-beneficial. To shift from this scenario, the Institution invited the construction companies to the graduation ceremony and gave them Certificates of Appreciation. The re...lationship is now blossoming, and the biggest construction companies in the country used our Institution’s premises to launch their strategy for a bigger share in public sector projects. As the head of the Institution, I was officially invited to give a key note address at the launch, in recognition of this collaborative relationship. We are looking forward to an even closer interaction with the industry as we will be reviewing our learning programs next year. Many thanks to QUT and the Australian Government." -Thomoitsile Moichubedi, Botswana TVET Trainer Development Program #impactstories #AustraliaAwards #AAF #TVET #development
13.01.2022 "As a 2006 Outstanding Career Executive Service Officer, I was awarded a Study Grant at the Queensland University of Technology through the Philippines-Australia Human Resource Development Facility. Drawing from learnings on governance, organizational design and partnerships, service delivery, human resource management, change management, community engagement, site visits and work placements, we drafted purposive papers to help improve our respective agency’s overall effecti...veness. These were presented at the National Conference on Governance Innovations and 5th National CESO Convention in Manila and Davao City. My stint at the Princess Alexandra Hospital, Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, and QUT Faculty of Health paved the way for capacity building in my roles as I transitioned to Executive Director of the National Kidney and Transplant Institute. With people-centered leadership, we were able to deliver results through people, finish the Diagnostic Center, enhance award-winning programs, and share best practices nationwide and globally." - Aileen Javier, Philippines Leadership, Governance and Public Service Philippines Australia Human Resource Development Facility #impactstories #leadership #PHRDF

09.01.2022 Congratulations, Duong Quoc Viet of Vietnam; Winner of Impact Stories (September 2020)! "Through my training at QUT (Queensland University of Technology), I learned that VET sector has a role in helping people in disadvantaged circumstances to be trained and equipped with skills, find jobs and join in the labour market. As a result, I collaborated with Saigon Tan Cang Corporation to deliver a joint logistics training program for 25 students in Thu Duc College of Technology. I... also taught in two Australia Awards short courses on Logistics to over 40 participants from VET colleges, logistics companies, and the Vietnam Association of People with Disabilities. In 2020, I delivered a pilot training module on forklift operations in compliance with the occupational standards in warehouse management for fifteen students in the logistics discipline at Thu Duc College of Technology. My action plans were positively received with great support and cooperation from enterprises. Consequently, the action plans were implemented as scheduled and achieved expected results, contributing to the improvement of the logistics workforce in Vietnam, particularly in Ho Chi Minh." #impactstories #AustraliaAwards #Aus4Skills #logistics #pwd #peoplewithdisability #vietnam #QUT

05.01.2022 Changing narratives one #impactstory at a time. Congratulations, Helvecia Takwe from Cameroon, for taking on the responsibility of improving TVET in Cameroon and advocating women and PWD in the process. "In Cameroon, #TVET has always been considered as an inferior sector with most of the trades deemed as meant for men. Girls and people with disabilities suffer from discrimination, and therefore only a few of them enrol in TVET schools. The #QUT #AustraliaAwards short cour...se on TVET equipped me to help change this narrative. After my training, I spoke to over 60 Key TVET stakeholders in the North West Region of Cameroon, and 95% of them showed interest in partnership building after my presentation. I then established partnerships with key training centres in the region, ensuring that training provided by the vocational institutions met industry requirements. Finally, observing that women were not represented in many TVET trades and industry organisations, I created the association of TVET and industry women called TVETI Women. I initiated and designed a project for TVETI Women titled Change the Story #changethestory and the Facebook campaign "TVETI Women". This project uses stories of TVET women around the globe to inspire women and reduce the TVET stigma, while unveiling the challenges women in TVET are facing. Over 100 women in Cameroon have participated in the project and several others around the world. " See more

04.01.2022 "I was still a teacher when I was given the opportunity to be part of the Strengthening Leadership and Teaching Excellence (SLATE) under the Basic Education Sector Transformation (BEST)in cooperation with the Department of Education (DepEd) Philippines and Metrobank Foudnation, Inc. (MBFI) at QUT. Through the encounter I had with various school principals and the visits we had in the different Autralian institutions, I was able to realize the great impact a school leader has ...on the management of schools and implementation of school programs and projects and in the improvement of teaching. So when I returned home, I applied for the Principal's Test, and I passed it. Being a school principal now, I am in the best position to influence and to capacitate my fellow teachers achieve excellence and to encourage them to advance in the teaching profession - as this has been my advocacy. I want to inspire more teachers to love the profession for them to be able to help more learners improve their lives. Now that we are faced with the challenges brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic, our school focuses on how we can continue to deliver inclusive, equitable, relevant and quality education among our learners." -Allan Moore Cabrillas, Philippines Philippines Australia Human Resource Development Facility Strengthening Leadership and Teaching Excellence Skills #imapctstories #PAHRDF #SLATES #Education #Leadership #Excellence
03.01.2022 Congratulations, Oscar Pales from the Philippines, for your work in Muslim education. Here's to more smiles and greetings of peace that transcend culture and ethnicity! "My #impactstory started when I returned to Davao, Philippines, after completing my #AustraliaAwards course on Developing Educational Leadership Competencies of Madrasah Leaders at #QUT. I immediately shared what I learned with my peers and engaged with different communities and schools to deliver trainings.... I was then promoted twice, allowing me to be transferred to a new community where I met various people from different ethnic groups like the Badjao, Cabingaan, Maranao, Tausug and the Maguindanaoans- all having cultural values different from mine. Success in education leadership comes from humility and true service. A sincere smile and greetings of peace helped me gain the trust of my new community and effectively impart my learning from QUT- promising nothing, but accomplishing a lot of things. Further, I was honoured to help develop a national policy and curriculum for Muslim Education from 2016 onwards. I also visited many cities and regions to promote Muslim Education, and innovate learning by using strategies of continuous education, which proved beneficial during this pandemic. With all these, I was recognised with various national and local awards for my work in the Muslim community." #Education #Leadership #Muslim #Mindanao #Madrasah See more
