If you were expecting an emphasis on new money for COVID-impacted workers and a strengthened public health system, then the new normal isn't looking that new. This is the bosses' budget, and the usual suspects are all here. More for mining billionaires, less for the rest of us. The newest thing in this budget is the already announced hundreds of billions of dollars that the government wants to pour into the military and intelligence agencies. In this new-normal world, the government isn't interested in protecting workers from the crisis of the pandemic, but seems to be very interested in building up Australia's stockpile of bullets and bombers.

Despite the horrendous repression and military power of Israel backed by the US and Australia, Palestinians have continued with their heroic struggle for liberation. The occupation and ethnic cleaning of Palestinians by Israel has been happening for decades and continues today. Many millions of people live in desperate conditions, unable to access safe water or the most basic medical treatment. When Palestinians stand up and fight back against their oppression, it is our responsibility to show we support them.
