25.01.2022 Congratulations Nessy We are so proud that Vanessa Keane has been recognised for her care and dedication to our residents by The West Australian Healthcare Heroes initiative. Nessy has been singled out as one of the 250 nurses, from over 5300 nominations, to be recognised in the competition, receiving a luxury overnight staycation at the 5-star Crown Perth. I had no idea Id been entered by a family whose mother I care for at Jasmine House in RAAFAs Karri & Tuart Lodge. I was absolutely thrilled when I was told I was a winner, I was so grateful and felt so appreciated. Arguably, all of WAs nurses deserve recognition and appreciation for their hard work, particularly this year. Congratulations Nessy from all your colleagues and friends at RAAFA. We hope you enjoy your stay!
24.01.2022 Happy Fathers Day! . #Fathersday

23.01.2022 Isnt it beautiful to witness little acts of kindness bringing joy? During the early stages of COVID-19 young students at All Saints College WA demonstrated their commitment to caring, by making special care parcels for some of the residents at AFME. One recipient, Val, said receiving the package was a wonderful surprise. It was just lovely to receive such a delicious assortment of goodies. I think my husband and I most especially enjoyed the jam, which was wonderful in the morning on toast. And to continue spreading the joy, Val sent us on our way with our own special package of home baked cookies to share. 22.01.2022 How did you meet? On International Friendship Day its time to celebrate the special people in your life, new or old. Despite a 14 year age difference Val and Jean, both residents at our AFME have become firm friends across the knitting needles. We just gelled, probably because we have a similar sense of humour and laugh at the same things, says Jean. Go on... share the joy with someone today! 21.01.2022 Commemorating the more than 17,000 Australians who fought against the spread of communism and in the defence of South Korea during the first open conflict of the Cold War - the Korean War. Today we remember all who served, and all who lost their lives and know that they are not forgotten. Thank you.
20.01.2022 Gorgeous artwork from across the generations is adorning the walls at Merriwa Estate thanks to an intergenerational art initiative spearheaded by Retirement Wellbeing Officer, Suzanne Free. Artwork by some of the artistic residents at Merriwa, and children from Goodstart Early Learning Merriwa are on display at the estate, with pictures and paintings to lift people's spirits. The hope is for an interactive intergeneration playgroup to be started in partnership with the kind...ergarten, where elders and children can participate in simple art projects together and also share stories. Watch this space! Read the full story here: https://www.raafawa.org.au//artwork-creating-connections-t
20.01.2022 Bob likes to be proactive with his own health, something which he is also very aware of in his role as Therapy Assistant at Gordon Lodge. My work supports the physical, emotional and psychological needs of our residents to enable them to lead fulfilling, active lives. I commit to walking twice a day in my local park for both exercise and relaxation. Our team understands the importance of seniors staying as social as possible, even in the current climate, and engaging in activities they enjoy as well as being able to feel that they belong. Eating well is also hugely important and something that I am very focused on myself. Cooking for my partner and I, and a vegetarian diet are things I find very beneficial for my own health. Thanks for starting the conversation Bob. When will you have yours?
19.01.2022 We asked Brenda why she and her husband chose RAAFA Amity Village Albany to call home? It was a big move but we had no hesitation in choosing Amity Village at all, explains Brenda, who owned a farm in Ravensthorpe. It felt like such a lovely place from the moment we walked in. We chose our new place which had been renovated for us, and it was like moving into a brand new home. We would say to anyone contemplating downsizing that its a wise move, the residents are so welcoming and the management is so organised and makes sure everything runs smoothly. In face we love everything that RAAFA stands for and it shows in how very much people care about each other. Thanks Brenda. If youre interested in retirement in Albany, call Cheryl on 9841 5922 to arrange a time to visit the display unit.

15.01.2022 Gwen and Max are set to be one of the first couples to move into RAAFAs new Cirrus Apartments in September. Were very excited about moving in and have chosen all of our fixtures and fittings and are looking forward to having a home with no maintenance and no gardening, said Gwen. The couple, who were fortunate enough to sell their family home following their first home open, had looked at a number of other retirement villages before their daughter suggested they look at th...e new complex going up at Air Force Memorial Estate in Bull Creek. Our daughter drives past RAAFA every day on her way to work, and she suggested we have a look at the new apartment complex. There were so many things that appealed to us, including the security, being able to park our car undercover, and all of the facilities on site including the pool.. All the advice wed received was to do the move sooner rather than later, and also to do it together, so were very pleased that its all coming along and well be in our new home in no time really. Gwen and Max chose a two-bedroom, two bathroom apartment on the third floor at Cirrus Apartments. We chose the third floor because there is a residents lounge on that level, so if Im out Max can wander down to have a coffee in the lounge, and have a chat, adds Gwen. Were very much looking forward to moving in and meeting our new neighbours. To find out how to make this your next home, call Margaret on (08) 9288 8446 or [email protected] See more

13.01.2022 Neel our IT Systems Engineer took part in Movember last year to raise awareness for mens health and wanted to get involved in Mens Health Week this year. I like getting involved and participating in the initiatives that RAAFA supports and take my own physical and mental health seriously. I run 3 times a week and meditate regularly, which I find very positive for my mental well being. Thanks for sharing Neel. Lets continue the conversation

10.01.2022 We take health seriously and Mens Health Week is an opportunity for the team at RAAFA to remind guys to take both their physical and mental health seriously. At an Australia wide level, the week helps raise the profile of mens health generally, and to instigate discussions about well-being that men might not otherwise have. Neel and Bob have started the conversation, when will you?
09.01.2022 Residents at Merriwa Estate have been hard at work crafting wooden boxes for a new children’s literacy program run through the Merriwa Rotary Club, encouraging a new generation of book worms. RAAFA residents handed over the first six completed boxes in early October. Rather than a book swap, the boxes will be placed throughout the community encouraging children to take free books from the boxes to keep and read at home. The project also has benefits for RAAFA residents, th...e workshop space at Merriwa Estate is used to work and to socialise, in lieu of their own garden sheds. We love being part of fantastic community initiatives like this! Read the full article here...

03.01.2022 RAAFA's Central Support Office bro team took the challenge during Movember to raise awareness of men's health issues, as well as growing the best mo in town! And their top 5 tips were: 1. Spend time with people who make you feel good. Stay connected. Your mates are important and spending time with them is good for you. Catch up, check in and make time. 2. Talk, more.... You don't need to be an expert, but being there for someone, listening and giving your time can be life-saving. 3. Know the numbers. At 50, talk to your doctor about prostate cancer and whether it's right for you to have a PSA test. Know your risk. 4. Know thy nuts. Simple. Get to know what's normal for you. Give them a check regularly and go to the doctor if something doesn't feel right. 5. Move, more. Add more activity to your day. Do more of what makes you feel good. Talk a walking meeting. Take the stairs. See more

All of the staff from RAAFA Connect are good people and very caring, says Lorraine. We are incredibly happy with the service, and are very grateful as I don’t think there’s anything more we could ask for. RAAFA Connect nurses and support staff work together to improve a person’s ability to stay at home. They do this by listening carefully to the needs requi...red and designing a personalised service that specifically suits an individual’s needs and budget.
