16.01.2022 It is great to see that the quest to get ex racehorses a life after the track is gathering momentum and many people are working towards this cause. It is not acceptable that they are treated like disposable commodities and discarded when they cannot win money for the owners. Fortunately many horses are now finding their way to a better future. well done horse lovers.

13.01.2022 Dressage and Jumping with the Stars - Dont forget to pencil in the Saddleworld Masterclasses on Saturday 28th March. Most enthusiasts acknowledge that the greatly improved standard enjoyed by Australia has largely been due to the contribution of visiting guest riding judges who have generously given time to explain their training methods, overcoming problems and competition strategies....very interesting an informative. Thanks Saddleworld. https://www.facebook.com/pages/PSI-Dressage-Jumping-with-the-Stars/170119616405143?fref=ts

06.01.2022 We need YOUR ideas! Planning is well underway for the 2015 Thoroughbred Makeover and National Symposium at the Kentucky Horse Park on October 23-25. A local hos...t committee is forming and plans are being created to raise a quantity of prize money worthy of the horses and trainers who will participate. Here are some questions for you: Our past two Makeovers have featured the training of 26 and ten horses respectively. We are considering allowing an unlimited number of entries this time since the horse park has multiple arenas where divisions can compete at the same time and there is no shortage of horses needing good training. We want the trainers to be juniors, amateurs, and professionals. We want all the horses to have raced but not yet started training in a new career. We also want to allow entries from nonprofit aftercare organizations and racing owners. Good idea or too many? We think well end up with between 60 and 150 horses. Applications will be done online most likely in late January. Once accepted, entrants can begin training as soon as they find a horse. This means that the trainers will have as much as nine months to prepare for the Makeover. Too long? Not enough? Just right? We are considering running this more like a horse show in that trainers can enter classes in various disciplines, each of which will have prize money. You can win best barrel racer and best dressage horse and best trail horse, etc. Winners of the divisions may compete in the finale to become Americas Most Wanted Thoroughbred. Fair? Fun? This event is the weekend before Lexington, Kentucky hosts the Breeders Cup. To attract a crowd and send a message we believe that we need the best off-track Thoroughbred in every discipline to do a demonstration. How will we track them down and get them there? We also know how much racing fans love their jockeys and how much jockeys love these horses. Should we do a Sunday morning Jockey Challenge where the big names compete on Thoroughbreds over jumps, around barrels, and in the dressage arena? Who else has an idea to make this weekend the greatest showcase of the trainability, athleticism, and loyalty of the Thoroughbred ex-racehorse? Is it on your calendar yet? -Steuart Pittman, RRP President Photo: Stud Muffin, one of the contestants in the 2013 Thoroughbred Makeover.
