19.01.2022 Exciting New NMCA Naturally Aspirated Class NMCA will be introducing a new class of racing this summer which will excite the former NHRA Pro Stock Truck fans, t...hose who liked hood scoops on Pro Stock cars and Competition Eliminator fans. This class will very closely mimic Australian Pro Stock, 400'' small blocks, 5-speed transmissions running at a minimum of 2300 lbs. Australian pro stock run 2x4 barrel carbs, but this new class allows you to choose between carburetors or fuel injection. The Australian Pro Stock record is 6.89 and 200 mph. This new class will feature more flexibility as any engine combination can be run in any door car body. For example, you could see the competitor going the nostalgia route with Ford power in a 1940 Willys, even Mopar Power in a 2016 Chevrolet Camaro or GM power in a Dodge Dart; though purest will cringe at these thoughts. There will also be already set limits on maximum rpm being 11,000 rpm. One of the competitors who will be entering this new class is Australian Pro Stock driver Nino Cavallo. They have run a best of best of6.93 at 197.80 in their old car which since was sold. The team purchased the former V. Gaines NHRA Pro Stock 2013 Haas Dodge Avenger (artist rendition photo). This car is currently in Chicago getting put together with a BRE (Book Racing Enterprises) 400" Hemi and 5 speed Liberty transmission. The car is being put together by a guy that’s been helping Cavallo for the last couple of years, Adam Drzayich. Nino first started racing in street cars then moved up to super stock, where he has won 3 Australian Super Stock Championships in a row; 2008, 2009 and 2010. They stepped up to Australian Pro Stock in 2012 where they won the 2015 Australian Winternationals, the 2016 Australian Nationals and are the current ANDRA (Australian National Drag Racing Association) Pro Stock Champions. Cavallo plans to run the new NMCA class at two events but as of now, are only committed to run the Joliet event in July. Cavallo Racing is a family affair his wife Amanda and their daughter Laura and son Dion always with them at events and will surely be looking forward to be there when Nino runs in the States this summer. Nino said, I think they are more excited than me, it will be an experience of a life time to come and race over there (Joliet, IL). If time allows, we will go and do a couple of test runs before Joliet with the new car, if not we will turn up and give it our best shot. With Adam being crew chief, I think we should be OK with the new Dodge Avenger and it should run a little faster than we did with the 2004 stratus. I have always loved my Mopars so all you Mopar fans should be at the MNCA Joliet event. You can follow Nino on their Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/Cavallo-Drag-Racing-114031465336/. Other drivers/teams who were mentioned as interested in running in this new NMCA SB/NA class were: Leonard Long, Don Baskin, Robbie Blankenship, Brandon Huhtala (team car with Bob Book of BRE), Richard Freeman (a featured car out of the Patterson-Elite Performance business). Brian Bures, Chris Jarman and Shane or Kirsten Tucker. Teaming up with NMCA in supporting this new class, when this class is introduced, is Dart, Book Racing Enterprises (BRE) and CFE among others. Sounds like exciting racing which will attract a new fan base and interest to NMCA’s style of racing. See more
