15.01.2022 Project Mu Australia recently tested the HC-EP pad range and G-Four brake fluid on a Mitsubishi Evo 8. The vehicle was taken to Queensland Raceway, a track known for being hard on brakes. The vehicle managed a respectable 1:23.0 on a street tyre. The vehicle was pushed to its limit to test the performance of the OEM brake system with the Project Mu pads and fluid. Rotor temps exceeded 610 C. A 1:23.2 was managed on the 6th lap before the session ended showing the braking performance was not compromised. The driver was happy with the results and confident that the pads and fluid outperformed the heat capacity of the OEM brake system. Stay tuned for the next step as we install some SCR-PRO rotors and brake ducting to get the rotor temperatures down to an acceptable level.

05.01.2022 We wanted to expand on a previous post where we touched on acceptable rotor temperatures. The graph pictured shows that, while the HC-EP can withstand temperatu...res up to 800 c, it is in its optimal window between 100c 600c. Operating above 600c will push the limits of OEM brake systems resulting in increased heat transfer through the calliper and through the rotor in to the hub arrangement. Potentially damaging seals, boiling brake fluid and overheating wheel bearings. Brake temperature paint is a great way to monitor rotor temps. Three colours are used: Green 430c, Orange 560c, Red 610c. Triggering the Green paint is an acceptable heat range, Orange indicates you are running hot but not quite past the limit while red would be considered over heating and operating temperatures need to be reduced. The easiest way to reduce rotor temperatures is through the addition of or increase of brake ducting and by switching to a two piece rotor. Brake duct, hose and temperature paint are all available through Racer Industries.
