25.01.2022 Patients often come to us with severe pain from a previously filled tooth which has a large Amalgam filling. Often, the cause of pain is not clearly known. The are usually very sensitive to cold things and chewing hard things can be very sore. These teeth often have cracks which sometimes can be diagnosed from symptoms alone. Treatment can involve just a filling, root canal or sometimes, extraction of the tooth. ... The worse the crack is, the higher the chance of extraction being required. In the series of photos below: 1) you can see the large amalgam filling in a lower molar. 2) you can see the filling removed by our dentists and the large crack visible (blue arrows) 3) you can see the tooth restored with a tooth coloured filling material back to its natural appearance. The diagnosis of a crack and conservative treatment to avoid a root canal or extraction can often be complex. But our dentists are trained in management of these teeth. 22.01.2022 Root canal treatments are sometimes required when a tooth has had bacteria (decay) infiltrate the inner canals of a tooth. In that case, a filling wont work. Have a watch of the video below which was recorded under the high powered microscope that we have at Raceview Dental. It is part of a root canal treatment on a lower front tooth. Dr Soni has recorded this for the teaching and mentoring of younger dentists from around Australia but has allowed us to share it here. In t...he first stage, he opens up the tooth exposing the central nerve. He then uses thin files to clean out the canals and places medications down the canals to kill the bacteria and stop it causing infection in your jaw. The procedure is highly technical and we are the only general dental practice in the entire Ipswich, Springfield and surrounding regions with this microscope for root canal treatment. 20.01.2022 This lovely lady presented at our practice complaining of her protruding crooked smile and poorly matched, unnatural looking bridge. She had a lot of other dental issues so had a very limited budget for cosmetic work. Her main focus was only to treat the front 4 teeth.... The cosmetic dentist took her pictures and discussed the discrepancy in her smile and provided all the possible options. The ideal treatment would have been 10 teeth crown lengthening (gum surgery to expose the teeth and fix the gum height discrepancies) followed by porcelain crowns on 10 teeth. But due to our patients budget, we decided to limit her treatment to the front four teeth only. The dentist performed minor gum surgery to contour and augment the gum tissue and 1 bridge and 1 crown replacement. You can see the massive difference between the before and after smile.
