23.01.2022 Just like the plumber always has leaking taps, and the builder an unfinished house, I managed to mismanage the very areas of life I know how to (more or less) manage pretty well in order to function well.

22.01.2022 I have equal faith and belief in both my children both my daughter and my son are bright, capable and decent humans who can undoubtedly achieve great things. Yet I worry for my daughter and her future, that she won't he able to fulfill her potential, because the statistics show the system is still very much against women.

22.01.2022 RIP to Sir Ken Robinson - his thoughts on education and the deficits of the system opened my eyes to be mindful of how my kids are being educated (and indeed, how the system hasn’t changed since I was in it) and how to encourage their talents and abilities outside of that system. There is another presentation of his that is an excellent explainer of the thoughts he introduced here. I’ll pop a link to that in the comments - it’s well worth the time to watch.

19.01.2022 #balancedin10 is my free mini course on creating a sense of balance, fast. It's 10 experiments, done in 10 minutes over 10 days. It's open now, here: https://bit.ly/3i3LBz6

19.01.2022 Oh I just finished listening to this book on Audible - it should be compulsory listening/reading for kids and adults alike. What an incredible man Eddie is. His story of surviving the Holocaust is both frightening and uplifting. So much loss, pain and suffering. At this time in history, Eddie’s story reminds me that happiness is something we can choose even when we have very little, and that hatred leads to evil and we must all defend against it.

19.01.2022 Where'd your mojo go? Lost under a pile of laundry? Snuffed out by the never-ending school lunches conveyor belt? Or the whole Covid thing delivered a knockout blow? I'm putting together a short video for you on how to get your mojo back, but I'm curious - what are your mojo killers?

18.01.2022 Yep, I reckon - especially when that mind goes on and on and on with aaallllll the things.

18.01.2022 We have balance aaaalllll wrong. It's not your schedule. It's not work v life. It's not about fitting more in. It's a dance. A practice in which we always seek to come back to a centre point between extremes. You are constantly being called back to balance.... It’s the urge to move when you’ve been still too long or the urge to be still when you’ve been on the go too much. It’s the urge to shed when the load has been too heavy and it’s the urge to retreat when you’ve been out too long. The trick to achieving balance is to listen for that call and learn to dance along with it. This week's focus lesson inside The Complete Life Project - an Intro to Balance. Not a member? 17.01.2022 I rate quinoa as one of THE most versatile and healthy ingredients you can have on hand. There are many reasons to love it ... It's a complete protein, so a great substitute for meat if you're looking to cut your consumption and eat more plant-based meals;... It's a seed and not a grain, is gluten-free, is a good source of antioxidants and minerals, and is a good source of fibre. You can also use it for breakfast, lunch or dinner recipes, which means you never have to go hungry if you have some in the pantry. It's easy and quick to make (which of course, is SUPER important!), and a packet goes a long way. I've been using it for many, many years now - here's a post I wrote way back when, detailing some of the ways I use it. R x https://www.rachaeljansen.com.au/easy-quinoa-recipes/

17.01.2022 On the podcast: I think it's time we learned to treat our family like flatmates sometimes. Because the laundry has nothing to do with motherhood.

15.01.2022 Has your inner spark been a little dull? Or non-existent? Has it been snuffed out by too many loads of laundry, school lunches and an overwhelmed schedule? I get it. I SO get it. ... I put a short vid together for you to help you connect some of the dots on where your mojo has gone. No sign up required - just pop over. https://courses.rachaeljansen.com.au/rym-video/

13.01.2022 I’m doing the pre-start of my own food program, which involves keeping a food & mood diary for theee day’s or so. It helps you see in black & white exactly what you eat and drink on a daily basis, which often surprises you. In the past I’ve had clients and program participants who have been quite shocked by what they found, including a realisation they ate very little fresh produce at all. It also helps draw the links between what you consume and how you feel.... My own list for the past two days was looking quite tragic - more coffee than greens, and a distinct feeling of dehydration by the end of the day. So a quick green smoothie for lunch today should help balance it back out a little. Today’s recipe: 1 pear 5 dark kale leaves handful pepitas 1tbsp collagen 1 tbsp hemp seeds 1 tspn maca powder 1 tspn Ashwaganda 1 small avocado coconut water

13.01.2022 It's the last week of school for my kids, and every time I begin to feel excited about the summer holidays, I remember it's still 2020 ...

12.01.2022 New to the working from home with kids gig? Or a pro at it and just want to compare notes? I've been working from home withkids for 16 years so far, from babies to teens - here are my tips.

11.01.2022 I wonder if it was a coincidence or an act of design that the the mother in The Incredibles was given the superpower of elasticity. Because if there's one thing a working mother understands it's the feeling of being stretched to the limit.

09.01.2022 Where'd your mojo go? Maybe it's simply too tired to get up in the morning when your body does. It's not just that we eat or drink too much of the wrong things - sometimes your fatigue, moods and general feeling of 'meh' is because you don't have enough of what you DO need.... Too little of the right fuel has just as much impact as too much of the wrong stuff. You might be surprised at just how little you have to change in order to start feeling better. If it's something you'd like to investigate, join me for the next round of Reclaim Your Mojo. You can find the full video with more mojo killers in it too. https://courses.rachaeljansen.com.au/reclaim-your-mojo/

08.01.2022 On being a 'pandemic parent'... I read something about there having been the Spanish flu kids, wartime kids, and that our kids are the Covid kids. And so, we assume the mantle as the generation of parents - pandemic parents - who's turn it is to steer our kids through the crisis of our times. ... But how do you do that? Well, I'm making it up as I go along. But ... ... I'm being honest with my kids and having conversations with them. ... I'm allowing and accepting disappointments because they exist and are understandable, but re-framing the situation to what we CAN do, not just what we've lost or may lose. ... I'm sharing the world situation, in comparison with our situation here. We have a lot to be grateful for. ... I'm trying to teach and model how to deal with worry but not let it consume you. I wouldn't say I'm a world champion at it, but this is the process we must learn. It's not 'don't worry' because worry isn't avoidable if you're awake and aware - it's, 'don't let worry consume you'. Worry, and then keep living. ... I'm trying to keep their daily life as normal as possible but also incorporate social distancing, hand hygiene and risk assessment and awareness as part of their daily normal. It's an interesting process, normalising the not normal but not scaring the kids or freaking out whenever they want to 'go out' in society. Fun times. ... and I'm doing the things that lift ME up. I cannot be a good pandemic parent if the weight of the world is literally squashing my spirit. My spirit - my mojo - carries not just me but my entire family. They rely on me to be OK. They look to me for reassurance. Life has already shrunk, and so I cannot allow that to constrict my sense of joyful living and anticipation of the future, and so I have to make sure I'm OK. Maintaining my mojo is critical to ensuring that not only I am OK but my family is OK too, no matter what chaos is happening. Our children will speak in the future of this time and the lessons learned and experiences shared. I want those conversations from my kids to be positive. That they learned they could do hard things and endure hard things. That they learned how to look for the positive and the flipside and to feel grateful for them. That their life lessons from this time included humility, service, community and kindness. And that their mother carried them through it with some sense of grace, humour and strength. Mostly anyway. No doubt they'll remember the days I don't! This is our quest as pandemic parents - to guide our kids through a shit storm we have never encountered, never imagined and have no idea how to navigate. Go us! But we are up for this. Call in all the resources you need and look after your mojo - your energy and positive vibes will carry your kids too. PS If you need a mojo boost, I'm running the Reclaim Your Mojo course as a three-week small group program starting next week. More detail are here: https://bit.ly/3iX2w79

08.01.2022 If ageing is an issue you feel uncomfortable about, tune in to this conversation on the podcast with Suzi Dent. She's hilarious, open and straight as an arrow as she shares her story of becoming a beauty queen at the age of 54 and having to learn how to walk in high heels.

08.01.2022 Have a kid (or a couple) and suddenly our society forgets you as an individual and sees only the mother. Being a mum is significant, absolutely, but it's not all there is to you.

08.01.2022 Yeah, I say we call it quits on 2020. Seems to be an under-performer.

07.01.2022 Self-awareness would have to be one of the most powerful and important things you can cultivate I reckon. Without understanding your own thoughts, behaviours, actions, reactions and responses, you can’t really effectively change what you want to change. We are quick to look for reasons outside of ourselves to explain why things are as they are, when it’s more powerful to look at our own contribution to the situation.... This week’s theme in The Complete Life Project - self-awareness.

06.01.2022 Just leave me be for a moment. Or several moments.

04.01.2022 So after a month-long break from social media, I'm back to greet 2021. Maybe I should wait it out a bit longer ...

03.01.2022 There are some really easy ways to feel more balanced - and I've shared them in this episode of the podcast.

01.01.2022 NEW - The 10 Minute Mind: journaling for balance. A short guide to journaling, made simple and including prompts to help you get started. I've popped it up inside the membership area for the Balanced in 10 members, and I'll be sending it out to all my subscribers, this Friday. ... 01.01.2022 Time is an attention issue, not a quantity issue. If you keep waiting until you have time, rather than adjust where you choose to place your attention, you'll never get to do what you really want to.
