13.01.2022 Well I've had an interesting week, as many of you know I sit as a Lay Member on Employment Tribunals hearing and making decisions on cases. I sat on the last in person hearing in Exeter when Covid closed down everything and mid afternoon the Judge had an email from the President saying close the court. Then on Monday to Thursday this week I sat on the first in-person Tribunal Hearing here in the South West. How strange to be on the last and first. I must say the Covid safe measures were brilliant, in between witnesses a team of cleaners came in to clean the witness table/area, they were just like a team of ghost-busters!

08.01.2022 HMRC has just published the 4th update of the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme. https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk//200414_CJRS_DIRE "The employer must have a pay as you earn (PAYE) scheme registered on HMRC’s real time information system for PAYE on 19 March 2020 (a qualifying PAYE scheme)."... The qualifying date, when the employee has to have been on the employer's payroll, has changed from 28 February to 19 March 2020. This brings into scope a large number of people who fell outside the scheme because they had recently changed jobs. The 19 March date is just before the Chancellor announced details of the scheme, meaning it is still effective to prevent fraudulent claims (by businesses hiring ghost employees to claim furlough payments in respect of, as those ghost employees will not have been on PAYE on 19 March). Here to chat through the implications if this includes more people wishing to go onto Furlough in your company.

08.01.2022 The Furlough Scheme has been further clarified, employees can be furloughed from 1 job and work at another. Also furloughed employees can take their annual leave and bank holidays whilst being furloughed.
