17.01.2022 WEEKLY CHALLENGE! When you go shopping for household cleaners, do you look for eco-friendly brands? This week we’re going to give our cleaning closets an upgrade by stocking them with products that are safe, effective, and healthier for you AND the environment!... I know that for many of us, the coronavirus pandemic changed how we approached cleaning our homes and (especially at first) we brought out the BIG GUN cleaners or in some cases, whatever was available at the store! But it *totally* is possible to keep your home clean AND also kill off the nasty bugs and viruses you don’t want around you or your family. The problem with a lot of antibacterial and antimicrobial cleaners is that they can be a little too aggressive and kill off beneficial organisms, which can have an impact on gut health, especially for babies and young children. A major study found that being exposed as babies to disinfectants and detergents was linked to a higher body mass index while being exposed to eco-friendly products wasn’t. How do you know which eco-friendly products actually work? The GECA (Good Environmental Choice Australia) is a non for profit is constantly updating its database of products. Check out their free guides, which are constantly being updated, here: www.geca.eco/product-finder/ Use reusable cloth cleaning wipes instead of disposable wipes. Read labels and look for certifications such as GECA Certified, Eco Label, or the Sensitive choice" or "Allergy Seal of Approval" Make sure your room is well ventilated when you clean. Are you in? 16.01.2022 FOOD OF THE WEEK BROCCOLI They’re great raw, steamed, roasted, in salad, in soup, and the list is endless! These little green tree stalks are packed with vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants your body loves!... Broccoli is believed to help protect you from cancer, can help control blood sugar, and supports healthy digestion. PLUS broccoli supports the function of your brain and immune system, is good for your heart, and also keeps your bones and joints strong! When’s the last time you had some broccoli!?

12.01.2022 This is a simple broccoli and cucumber salad recipe that makes a surprising side dish. It’s good with boiled salmon or roasted chicken! (Or really any main course.) You will LOVE the dressing you can use it on hot or cold foods, and it even makes a great last-minute addition to any stir fry. BROCCOLI & CUCUMBER SALAD... (Makes 4 servings) DRESSING: cup (65 grams) natural peanut butter 1 tbsp coconut aminos (or soy sauce) 2 tsp honey or maple syrup tsp ground ginger (or 2 tsps fresh grated ginger) 2 tsp apple cider vinegar 2 tbsp warm water, to thin dressing (OPTIONAL: a dash of sriracha or hot sauce) SALAD: 1 lb broccoli florets, cut into bite-size pieces 2 small seedless cucumbers, thinly sliced 2 tbsp extra-virgin olive oil Salt and pepper, to taste 2 tbsp dried cranberries TO MAKE THE DRESSING: Place all the dressing ingredients into a mason jar and shake well to incorporate. (This will keep for a week in the refrigerator). TO MAKE THE SALAD: combine the broccoli and cucumbers in a medium bowl. Add the olive oil, salt and pepper, and toss well to combine. Place the salad on a platter and spoon the peanut dressing over it. Top with cranberries and serve.

05.01.2022 Because this recipe includes eggs and bacon, it’s easy to think of it for breakfast, but it’s actually great any time of the day! It will keep you feeling surprisingly full for hours. Egg Cups with Avocado Fries... (Makes 1 serving) 1 slice uncured, nitrate-free bacon avocado, cut into thin strips cup (90 g) chopped broccoli 4 asparagus spears, sliced 2 jumbo eggs, whisked together Himalayan salt and pepper to taste Preheat oven to 180C. Place bacon in a frying pan and cook over medium-low heat for 2-4 minutes, until fats collect in the pan. Place avocado strips into grease and cook 2-3 minutes per side, until crisp. When bacon is nearly done but still pliable, remove and place half of each strip in one muffin cup. You can either line the muffin cup with the bacon, or chop it up so it covers the bottom and sides. Add sliced asparagus and broccoli florets into bacon pan, cover and cook about 2 minutes, until just starting to cook. Remove and stir into the eggs, and then pour the mixture into muffin cups. Bake 10 minutes, or until set. Salt and pepper to taste. Serve avocado fries alongside egg cups.
