25.01.2022 BREASTFEEDING// With it being #worldbreastfeedingweek I thought I’d share some on my breastfeeding journey. I’m lucky to be able to, many women really struggle to breastfeed for various reasons so I am always grateful for the opportunity to do so. It’s this gratitude I hold on to when it hurts, in the very early hours of the morning when my body aches and doesn’t want to get up and sleep deprivation is strong. Breastmilk is literally magic! However, while breastmilk is aweso...me, FED is best NOT breast is best! Formula can be as good as it gets for some and there certainly are some good formulas on the market. Don’t ever let anyone make you feel inadequate for formula feeding. I really struggled feeding with my first baby, like REALLY struggled. There were tears and sore nipples and times I wanted to give up. I feel sometimes we don’t share the reality and struggles. But I persisted and it took the better part of 2 months to really get it happening. Then I went from complete noob to pro and fed until she was 22months! I wanted to get to 24, but I was over it and every feed left me feeling unhappy. And if it’s not right for both of you anymore then it’s time to wean. This time is completely different. My sweet boy has the best latch and feeds incredibly well making it an absolute dream. However, there’s still sore nipples, frustration when waiting for my milk to come in (which took longer post op!) and cluster feeds that drive me a bit batty (but gives me opportunity to write posts!). So it’s not all rainbows and sunshine, but it’s still amazing that I can solely feed and nourish this little human. For me the biggest thing around breastfeeding is every woman should feel empowered to feed when, where and how she wants. She should never feel shame or guilt. Breastfeeding is natural and beautiful and creates a sacred bond between mother and child and does not belong behind closed doors, suffocating cloths or toilet stalls! Get the boobies out and feed your babies, damn anyone who looks poorly on you. . . . #breastfeeding #mothersmilk #fedisbest #womenempowerment #freethenipple #ipswichnaturopath See more

25.01.2022 BIRTH TRAUMA// It was birth trauma week a couple weeks back, but I wasn’t ready to share then. However, I do feel it is a very important topic for women and men. I think back to a few days postpartum, I was standing in front of the mirror, hair disheveled, dark circles under the eyes, new stretch marks across my belly, maternity pad and a fresh scar I couldn’t look at. I said jokingly to my husband wow, birth really isn’t sexy! and it isn’t supposed to be, but it is BEAUTI...Continue reading

22.01.2022 Getting ready for our first bath! It’s important to be particular about the products you choose for your baby. There’s a well know brand out there that doesn’t have your precious ones interests at heart and produce some less than desirable products, which is most unfortunate. However, there’s also a great number of fantastic natural, organic, non-toxic, chemical free baby products. It’s important to be mindful of what we put on the skin as it is absorbed directly into the bod...y and at such a young age babies are most vulnerable to the effects of chemicals found in skincare. We’re also a bit fussy with our nappies too! While we will swap to cloth, I knew after my first baby that cloth for me this soon after birth was too much (washing!) and even more so given the unplanned c-section. We use Tooshies by TOM, great for the environment and baby. . . . #firstbath #7daysold #naturalbaby #naturalproducts #organic #skincare #baby #newborn #toxinfreeliving #chemicalfreekids #nappies #environmentallyfriendly #naturalliving #ipswichnaturopath See more

20.01.2022 Dear Mumma, it’s ok if all you did today was feed your baby. I see you and I’m right there with you. Having a newborn is a very demanding time, so be kind to yourself. Don’t worry about the house, just eat, drink and look after yourself and your little one. These days shall pass, the dishes can wait, enjoy the snuggles. If you’re struggling reach out to the Australian Breastfeeding Association helpline on 1800 686 268 available 24/7. . .... . @gotyoubabeau #breastfeeding #breastfeedingsupport #breastfedbaby #postpartum #newborn #babies #parenting #mumlife #naturalparenting #naturalliving #ipswichnaturopath #ipswichnutritionist See more

19.01.2022 I am the biggest advocate for self care, yet I realised I haven’t been practicing it. So this morning while the kids amused themselves I showered, shaved my legs and did a quick facial. Nothing fancy just a cleanse and tried this mini honey mask by @antipodesskincare which was lovely! It’s not much but it’s something and a great start to my day after a rough night! 16.01.2022 The best thing about being home, aside from being with my family, is I can eat real food again! It’s a disgrace what is being fed to sick, injured and convalescent patients in hospitals and I understand there’s more to it than funds. But seriously the last few days I’ve not only been recovering from abdominal surgery but also a breastfeeding mumma again, and the nutrient less foods provided did not improve the situation. Breakfast in particular, after being awake feeding anot...her life you need sustenance and a bowl of corn flakes, fruit cup (yep not even fresh fruit!) and a cup of tea does not cut it! So today, our first morning home, I decided on a European breakfast (cause damn, have I missed soft cheese!), still not an epic amount of protein but much more nutrient dense and nourishing than hospital food! And there’s plenty of protein on the menu for second breakfasts in an hour or two . . . #postpartum #postpartumnutrition #breastfeeding #hospitalfood #gladtonbehome #nutrition #nourshing #realfood #organic #glutenfree #sugarfree #balancedmeals #education #healthyfood #ipswichnutritionist #ipswichnaturopath See more

11.01.2022 It’s been awhile since I’ve made a smoothie bowl! As much as I enjoy these they’re still a sometimes treat being full of natural sugar from all the fruit. 07.01.2022 Getting ready for Christmas. I know it’s early. I’m not one of those it’s November so let’s do Christmas spirited people. I’m a Christmas is from the first of December person and the tree is always down before the new year. But when I saw this tea advent calendar by @englishteashop.australia I have to admit I got a little excited! I like the idea of counting down the days to Christmas for my kids but I don’t like the daily chocolate thing. We love our tea so this was the perf...ect idea! Looking forward to December 1st aka tree day and when we get to try the first tea!! 06.01.2022 Basking in the beauty of new life. New mumma’s get given a lot of advice, often unrequited but generally well intended. Everything from baby should sleep this long or feed like that or be this big and so on and so forth. Sometimes we need the wisdom of mothers before us and sometimes we need to listen and trust our own instincts. So mumma listen to yourself, if you want to hold your bubba longer than do, if you want to demand feed then do, if you want to bottle feed then do. What works for you and your baby is best for you and your baby, not what someone else tells you is right. . . . #newborn #babies #postpartum #postpartumbliss #sleepingbabies #instincts #parenting #attachmentparenting #newmumma #ipswichnaturopath

02.01.2022 I’m SO excited to be preparing my first brisket. I’ve dry rubbed to leave overnight, ready for a slow cook tomorrow! I’m even more excited to use this lovely cut of buffalo. Buffalo, say what? Yep, and I’ve been doing my research this meat is nutritionally better than beef in numerous areas, having a better lipid (fat) profile, higher in protein and a great source of highly bioavailable iron, vitamin B12 and numerous other minerals and vitamins. In fact some studies have show...n buffalo to improve cardiovascular health! 02.01.2022 30 days of being your mumma, at least of you being earth side rather than in my belly. My eyes feel like they’re going to fall out I’m so tired. The sleepless nights bring a little dread as the day closes. There’s not enough time, I have not enough hands for all the work. The days are quick to pass but the nights drag on. For all the mummas out there with this struggle I hear you, I see you. It’s a rough job. BUT that little hand on my chest. Those little smiles as you fall ...asleep feeding. Those beautiful eyes staring lovingly at me like I’m the only person in the world. Through those long nights the secret moments we share. All the kisses and snuggles. The smell of your soft velvet head. The warmth of you skin. It’s 100% worth every minute of sleeplessness, the unwashed dishes, skipped meals and full bladder. Just to be with you in these precious fleeting moments. How this time has flown by. Hold your little ones, tired mumma, kiss their heads and remember these hard days don’t last forever and you’re not alone. . . . #newborn #babies #onemonthold #preciousmoments #tinyhumans #tinyhands #breastfeeding #motherhood #sleeplessness #fullhearts See more

01.01.2022 34 years around the sun and what a crazy year this last one has been. Reflecting back, this time last year I was heart broken, another year gone without conceiving, struggling with infertility and thinking it would never happen. To now having a gorgeous baby boy snuggling me. And the time between, the ups and downs of pregnancy during a pandemic, a birth plan gone awry, recovering from an emergency caesarean and the joys and sleep deprivation of becoming a new parent again. T...his year has brought so much change, and not just for myself but the entire world. It has been challenging to find our place within this change. However I decided, mid pregnancy during this pandemic, to slow down. Take each day as it comes and to accept what it brings. This meant I didn’t achieve certain work and life goals, putting me back from where I had planned and worked so hard to be. Yet rather than focusing on what could be perceived as a failure I chose to rejoice in what I had, spending each moment in gratitude as no doubt I could be much worse off. With so much uncertainty in the world around us I hope you can find a place of peace. Enjoy the small moments, be mindful and conscious of your time in the present. More than ever no one knows what the future looks like and I certainly hope it improves. For all our changes, struggles and losses this year, let us find the silver lining, whatever that may be. . by @flowerlovers beautifully gifted by my tribe at Healing Hands Natural Health Centre . . . #infertility #pregnancy #birth #birthday #reflections #change #pandemicpregnancy #hope #life #flowers #birthdayboquet #ipswichnaturopath #naturopathybyracheleveritt See more
