22.01.2022 Well it's now been a week + a day in fabulous El Salvador. Things achieved: Called the vet and made an appointment in my broken Español. Go me! Purchased fruit and vegies from local vendors and now have my favourite places to buy. Shopped for shoes Looked for Self Raising Flour, to no avail... Ridden in taxis for no seat belts whilst driving at around 90km/h in suburban streets Been invited to the local street committee (apparently living in one of the top 10 houses in the street) Made friends with the vigilantes at the gate (which is good as they all carry pump action shot guns) Successfully communicated with the fabulous maid, Christina. Have been coming home everyday to a sparkling clean house. sigh......... Met gorgeous people at the school. Tackled local bureaucracy and survived. Watched hours of Games Of Thrones whilst lazing in the hammock in my new back yard. Experienced my first monsoonal rains, complete with flash flooding and power outage. Had coffee today at a local café with Midnight Oil's "Beds are burning" playing in the background. Go aussie rock! What will the 2nd week bring??????? 20.01.2022 Final goodbye to my little farmhouse

20.01.2022 Went looking for the white bathroom hand towel and floor mat and couldn't find it in the linen press. "Where the bloody hell could they be?" Walked down to the maid's room and looked in the ironing and there they were. "oh well, going to have to slum it with un-ironed hand towel and bath mat". Thank goodness she is back in the morning.

18.01.2022 My first Monday in San Salvador. Banco account now open. Had a busy day but came back to a sparkling clean house. Having a maid is the BEST!

17.01.2022 It is dias cinco (day 5) in El Salvador. Opened Banco accounts. Had a tour of our new work place. Then bought, just a few more supplies (saucepans as the #thermomix is out of action until the converter arrives #sadface ). Had to use taxis a couple of times. Seat belts in the front seats if you really want to use them. Back seat....... yeah.... naaaa. Feels like we are home. So love this country. Not too many people travel here and its the perfect place for a holiday. Great surfing, super cheap booze and food (if you shop where the locals go). This afternoon, I found the cafe and bakery I went to years ago, at Multi Plaza. San Martin bakery is amazing. Going into carb overload. Gym time is on the cards.

12.01.2022 Well its our first Sunday in El Salvador. Woke up in the early hours of the morning to what sounded like gun shots......yep I was right. Police had an altercation with a gang on Calle Chiltiupan, a few blocks away (see article). Anywho........had a bit of a sleep in and now we are off to Multiplaza to do a bit more shopping. Yesterday (Saturday) the cats went to the vet, and yes they are open Saturday and Sunday morning. They were both washed and shaved for only $20 each. So ...love this place. Both cats are feeling a lot cooler now. Photos to come soon. Afternoon was spent eating and drinking whilst looking over the Pacific Ocean. What will tomorrow bring? 06.01.2022 So its now 2 weeks in my new country, El Salvador. What has happened? Quite a lot of food and the odd bevvie or 6, plus a bit of shopping. AND....I get my new SIM card tomorrow. Woooooo Hoooooo. First, resisted the temptation to buy a TRUMP bath mat in Sears. However, the Guadalupe statues where very tempting.... Sake bear was a little under the weather earlier this week, so we took her to our new vet, Avel. She had bronchitis and had a few shots and is now all good. Bless her little shaven body. Oh and, $40 for consultation and 2 shots. LUV Had coffee at many cafes. One guy made me a swan!!!!! Gorgeous. Today the fab Poggsy took us to the markets and drove us around the place (bless). It was so good today to get away from the bigger commercial operations and go the the farmers' markets, artisans' markets and then found an amazing garden store called Vegana. The herb garden is now happening (using the thyme from said garden for the roast chicken) and am about to start the veggie garden. Now looking for a few fruit trees. Thinking about a papaya, banana and maybe a dragon fruit and passionfruit (yes I know the last 3 are not trees). One of my favourite purchases has been a cooking plate, made of clay. Bought it from the guy who made it. He told me that I needed to treat it "like a marriage. Care for it well and it will last". So sweet. Did I mention that I love this place?

06.01.2022 Well ....have arrived safe and sound in El Salvador. First night at our new house. Today we've registered with the government for taxes etc etc. About to go shopping for household stuff and groceries and then to open a bank (banco) account.
