19.01.2022 In the daily grind we shut out extra information and reduce what we see so that we can focus and work efficiency. But it is essential to take time to step back and see the bigger picture or a new angle so that: - more efficient ways of working can be found (productivity) - we understand why we are doing what we're doing (meaning) ... - we realise all of the outcomes of our actions (re-evaluation) - we reconnect with the vision we had in the beginning (motivation) - we find others who are on the same journey (community) Comment below how you get fresh perspective! buff.ly/2Fe26ti @rachelamycounselling #rachelamycounselling #perspective #new #fresh #upsidedown #stepback #insight #understanding #awareness #focus #efficiency #productivity #meaning #motivation #community #therapy #therapist #counselling #counsellor

18.01.2022 Have the sparks of your New Years celebrations died down? Six days into 2020, how are your resolutions going? A new year is a clean slate and it's easy to idealise it and claim revolution in your life. But change is hard! Give yourself some grace if you've already slipped up on those resolutions. But don't give up on them. Remember every day is a clean slate, and healthy changes take time and small consistent steps in the right direction.... 14.01.2022 Sometimes we just have to focus on today, not giving up today. It's too overwhelming to keep looking up ahead and seeing the long-term view. Just for here and now, how can I plant my feet and take a jab at the idea of giving up? What does not giving up look like? What is one thing that says, "Nope, I'm not giving up today"?... Is it doing a quick workout? Is it working creatively for 15 mins? Is it sending an important email? Reaching out to a colleague? Reading that article? Writing that article? What does not giving up look like for you? #rachelamycounselling buff.ly/2Fe26ti #tenacity #persistence #notgivingup #bravery #nottoday #motivation #counselling #therapy #counsellor #therapist #newcastle

13.01.2022 Personal peace or social peace, is not achieved quickly or easily. It is something that requires careful attention, humility and a willingness to listen first. Patience is "the capacity to accept delay, problems, or suffering without becoming annoyed or anxious". We are always facing some delays, problems or suffering, but that doesn't mean we can't tap into peace during those difficulties.... It is all about pace - realising that our current pace might be out of sync with the pace of those around us and/or with the natural pace of growth, problems or change. Becoming aware of the difference between our internal pace and the external/expected pace, and beginning to learn how to pace ourselves accordingly is learning how to cultivate peace. How do you pace yourself? I'm finding that mindful breath-focused meditation is teaching me to let go of my hurried or anxious pace, and embrace a slower but more peaceful and reliable pace. @rachelamycounselling #counselling #counsellor #therapy #therapist #peace #patience #pace #Newcastle

09.01.2022 A good friend of mine recently told me that her approach to gardening is generosity - plant generously and something will grow. I think this is true of a lot of things in life, both in terms of diversity (trying different things) and repetition (practicing the same thing). Both diversity and repetition can make a lot of mess. That's when you have to have faith that the process will inform you and learning from it will help guide future progress.... What are you generously sowing into at the moment? Do you have a pile of bad ideas, where a good idea can grow? Let's give each other space to share bad ideas, make creative mess, and learn from them. Do you need diversity or repetition today? #rachelamycounselling buff.ly/2Fe26ti #poo #ideas #gardening #friend #diversity #practice #repetition #creativity #counselling #counsellor #therapy #therapist #newcastle

08.01.2022 At any given time we face a multitude of choices; what to do, what to wear, what to eat, what to say, what to prioritise, what to like, even who to be. If you're like me sometimes all these choices overwhelm you into paralysis. All of the "shoulds" and "have tos" roll over and over in my head and I end up distracting myself with unhelpful content and getting no where. How do you calm the voices and distractions? How do you simplify the many choices you have to make daily? ... One thing that's helping me at the moment is just starting on something. It doesn't have to be *the most important* thing, just something to get me going. That helps me get momentum and remember that any movement forward is better than none, and that I can give myself some credit for that movement. @rachelamycounselling @counselling @counsellor @therapy @therapist @Newcastle

07.01.2022 Most of us have that voice in our heads that tells us what we've done wrong, how much of a failure we are and how we'll never change. It whips us verbally and emotionally, never letting us rest without a critical remark or a damning comparison. But is this internal violence helpful?... Some people think if they silence this voice their motivation will be squashed as well - that this voice is what drives them to keep achieving. But how often does this voice actually crush us, confine us to our fears, or stop us from celebrating when we have done something worth acknowledgement? Your internal critic doesn't have to change to be a gushy, overly sympathetic, suck-up. But maybe you could make it less angry and more calm, less critical and more realistic, less past-focused and more future and growth focused. If your internal dialogue was less violent, how might that change your life? What thoughts have you been listening to today that are overly critical? Are they helpful? - www.rachelamycounselling.com - #therapy #therapist #counsellor #counselling #innercritic #thinking #Newcastle -

07.01.2022 Do you have someone you can celebrate with? Someone who will cheer with you when the good news comes? These are the people who are with us through the waiting and the uncertainty and the pain. Their encouragement and faithfulness to friendship can pull us through and make the wins so much sweeter. If you got some amazing news today, or reached a big goal, do you have someone who'd celebrate it with you?... 02.01.2022 Is there a song that gets you moving every time? You can't resist that toe tap or that butt wiggle or the head bobbing when that beat comes on? Music speaks to us deeply and can influence our mood instantly. Tuning into music that matches or mismatches our emotions can be powerful for expressing surface-level or hidden emotions, or for shifting our mood positively or negatively. And dancing can be a powerful way of reconnecting with our bodies and expressing what words can't.... What music are you listening to? And when was the last time you really let loose? Some thoughts: - waking up to happy music is invogorating - dancing by yourself is liberating - incorporating the occasional dance move into your normal day lightens the mood instantly (and occasionally is embarrassing but mostly fun ) Shout out to @emma.catchie because this picture reminds me of something fun and lovely she shared over the weekend www.rachelamycounselling.com #counselling #counsellor #therapist #therapy #Newcastle

01.01.2022 There are many things that can dampen your mood - forgeting your keys, missing lunch or not getting quite enough sleep - but have you thought about how the weather can effect your mood? Rainy days have lower levels of natural sunlight and warmth, and often stop us from getting into nature. They also add extra considerations like clothing and bag protections and added distraction when driving. All of this often means our moods are dampened on rainy or overcast days. So if you'...re already experiencing low moods, rainy days can add to that and increase our feelings of instability, irritability and sadness. It's good to remember these things on rainy days so that we can check in with ourselves, on friends, and plan to add a bit of extra self-care and compassion. What will you do to boost your mood in the wet weather? @rachelamycounselling #counselling #counsellor #therapy #therapist #grief #rain #moods
