23.01.2022 What came first the chicken or the egg? I have a better question what comes first the thoughts or the feelings. Its easy to think the feelings because we are usually allot more aware of our feelings than our thoughts. But thoughts are the winner, they definitely come first. Its our thoughts that actually generate our feelings which is really good news, why, because we have the ability to change the way we think about something and therefore change the way we feel. We have so much more power over the peace and contentment we feel in and about our lives than we realise. Cognitive Behaviour Therapy is a wonderful way to learn how to recognise your automatic thoughts that effect how you feel and react to situations. It is easy to understand and once you learn how to put it into practice it will change your life.

22.01.2022 Sometimes we feel that we just have to "keep going" or "just get on with it" we even tell ourselves "let it go" and "get over it" That might work sometimes or even work for an amount of time but our unresolved hurts and issues have a habit of lurking around in our heads and colouring how we see the world and how we fit into it. Or catching up with us seemingly right out of the blue leaving us feeling ill equipped to deal with the tidal wave of feelings and emotions that have surfaced. Painful as it may be, it is always to better in the long run to deal with things as they come up. Lean into the pain, talk about it, get support, get a hug, get what you need to feel at least a measure of peace again knowing that you do have the strength and resilience to keep going and have purpose and meaning in your life again.

21.01.2022 It might seem simplistic but the bottom line is "If you change nothing, nothing changes" so if you need support to make some changes in your life I am here for you.

21.01.2022 To any of you who have struggled through the storms of suicidal thoughts with sincere love and respect I want to say to you I AM GLAD YOU ARE HERE

14.01.2022 When we look at our lives, what we see largely depends on how we choose to look at it.

13.01.2022 Real communication is only possible when we care enough to listen properly.

13.01.2022 I love Christmas time it brings out the best in people, we gather family and friends, exchange gifts and good wishes and everywhere we look there is the colour, beautiful Christmas colour. Especially at this time of year I am mindful of the many people all around us that struggle through the holiday season. Weather its through missing a loved one, being lonely or suffering from depression. Often Christmas c...an be the hardest time of year and for them, there is no joy and colour just a silent sadness in their heart as they try to put on a brave face. So lets try and be sensitive to the ones missing a loved one, the lonely, and the ones that are low in spirit and do what we can to add a bit of comfort and colour to their Christmas Season with acts of compassion and kindness. 12.01.2022 Our behaviours are largely driven by our feelings and our feelings are generated by our thoughts. The average person thinks 400 words per minute. The question then becomes "what are you thinking and how is it affecting your life"

06.01.2022 Can you spare 30 seconds to do something nice for someone and improve your health. The average hug lasts only 3 seconds but studies have found that if you hug someone for 20 to 30 seconds your body secretes oxytocin (the love hormone) that gives you a feeling of calm and well being and neutralises cortisol (the stress hormone). A simple hug, a small gift of kindness that really can make all the difference to someones day :)

04.01.2022 Sometimes we see these kinds of quotes and feel inspired and sometimes we see them and just feel deflated. I think it depends entirely on how we are coping with the stress in our lives on that particular day. So if stress is overwhelming you today try to remember your success rate of getting through really bad days in the past is 100%

03.01.2022 I was sent this one from a wise friend today and it really struck a chord with me. As a counsellor of course I believe that attitude really is everything. You cant always have much control over your circumstances but you have full control over how you perceive them. Having said that when events conspire in your life and you find yourself feeling emotionally exhausted, sad and even helpless it is so important to honour and validate your feelings. Give yourself time and permission to heal your tender heart and don't allow others "look on the bright side" attitude rob you of the healing process as you catch your breath and gather your strength.

02.01.2022 The old saying "a problem shared is a problem halved" has allot of merit. To be able to talk about your concerns with someone who doesn't judge you or try to "fix it" can very therapeutic indeed.
