25.01.2022 Wow! Thank you for all the people who came in the heat on the weekend to shovel dirt, bark and sand. And for those that have been cleaning walls and installing bits and pieces, assembling furniture The backyard is looking refreshed and clean. Its been a busy week. Inside is starting to look great as well.

24.01.2022 We have service approval!! It has been such an amazing few months. There has been so much work go into both the building and all the approval steps. It has definitely taken my whole community and then some to get this project to the place it is today. Thank you everyone for your support it has been invaluable. Now let the child led fun begin!!! Opening day will be 20th of March!

24.01.2022 Congratulations everyone on a wonderful and massive effort to get Rachels Place ready in time for our assessment yesterday. The centre is looking magnificent. The assessor was incredibly impressed and said that she doesnt normally experience such a lovely homely feel when she first visits a new opening centre, as she had yesterday. One more assessment interview on Tuesday and we should have approval. Stay tuned for an opening date... it should be soon!

23.01.2022 The first working bee was a grand success! I had such a long list of work that needed doing and never thought we would achieve the amount we did! I was so amazed and appreciative of all the people who came to help. Every person put 100 percent in and made such a difference, despite the raging heat. With the children playing inside in the cool, it made it seem like the child care centre was just around the corner! Thank you so much for all your contributions to making Rachels Place a success.

22.01.2022 Centre Update: The construction plans are being drawn up in detail now, after successful negotiations with the Department of Early Childhood and Community Engagement regarding toilets needed. I have a builder ready to start the first week of January!

22.01.2022 Calling all landcape gardeneners! This week and weekend we need to move sand from one sand pit to the other and bark from the playground to the gardens. On Sunday we need to shovel new bark onto the playground area and refill the sandpit. There are also cleaning jobs galore. Its going to be so much fun :) come along and join in! Please let me know if you are coming so I can allocate jobs and have the right amount of tools.

22.01.2022 Dear Friends of Rachels Place. This week is Reconciliation week and at Rachels Place we have introduced a reconciliation song that the children are really enjoying. The kindy kids have been discussing the meaning of Kurilpa- the place of the water rat, the indigenous name for this reach of the river. When Marion our kindy teacher mentioned there is a statue of the kuril near the state library, everyone decided that we needed to go and look for ourselves. So the kindy ki...ds are off on an excursion to see the statue next week and to visit the staff at Kuril Dhagun, the indigenous meeting space at the state library, to find out more about the name, the animal and the place we share with them. We have been exploring why the seedlings were not growing well in our little pots. We thought hard, researched and discovered that they need sun, air and water, which we had been giving them..... but have discovered that the dirt needs more nutrients in it. All the children have been involved in adding manure into the earth in our vege patch to make the soil just right for our plants. We have also been exploring the chemical reaction between Bicarb soda and vinegar, first in little cups and then everyone has been delighted to watch Marion blow off water bottle lids with the resulting pressure created by the reaction. We have made a large volcano and are in the process of making a large explosion of bicarb and vinegar to make it erupt. Lastly we have been running fire evacuations. The children are very interested in the thought of a fire and what they need to to to stay safe. They now know when they hear the whistle and the call "EVACUATE " to walk to the assembly point and wait to hear their name called. We have been discussing what might cause a fire and the process we will take if there is one here at Rachels Place. All in all we everything is going smoothly and loads of fun is to be had!

19.01.2022 Hurray the renovations have started! Things are changing fast now. We are scheduled to finish the renovations the 4th of February.

13.01.2022 Construction Plans are completed! Builder starts 16th of January. The prediction is that it will take 3 weeks to complete. We are busily collecting resources for the centre. 13.01.2022 Get your gloves and old clothes ready we are doing our second and third working bee this weekend for painting, cleaning and gardening. Saturday 4th of February from 7am to 12ish and Sunday the 5th from 2pm to 5ish. Come for a couple of hours or just come for an hour. Every bit helps out. 11.01.2022 Wow today all the renovations will be finished. We had a huge weekend of painting! Thank you so much for all of the people who came and lent a hand to the painting of the house. So much was achieved. You guys are Super Stars!

09.01.2022 We have opened!!!!! It has been a busy couple of days. The children have been having a wonderful time. The staff are all I hoped and more. We had the children running in the door on Day 2 ready for more :)

Its the last big working bee on the weekend. I need handy persons, lawn mowers, cleaners and a fence painter. Anyone want to pop in for an hour would make the big job a little smaller. 05.01.2022 Dear Friends of Rachels Place, It has been a long time between posts. It has been a busy 7 weeks since we have opened. We have been working hard making sure all our policy and practices are in line with child care and small business compliance, getting to know each other and settling new families in to the child care centre. We have been developing a beautiful child centred program based on the childrens ideas and interests. It currently includes a gardening and compo...sting project, which is expanding into the local community through involvement with the Jane St Community Garden Hub. We have been expanding our excursion programs and have been visiting the local West End Library for story time and are looking to join in with both West End State School and Dutton Park under 8s days in the coming months. Our numbers are slowly increasing with 19 families enrolled and around 10 children attending daily. Our families are very diverse with quite an international flavour with Thai, German, French, Chinese, Vietnamese and Brazilian families. we are enjoying getting to know more about these cultures. We need as much assistance as possible letting people know we are open, have vacancies and are worth coming to visit. We would appreciate any assistance in letting your local community know about Rachels Place. We are currently planning a grand opening day that we would love for you all to come to.
