25.01.2022 Every day I have to remind myself that my perception is everything when it comes to how I feel. "According to Idealists the world is not what it appears to be. The world is. But it is not what it seems to your sense perception". Swami Parthasarathy https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Rh6H8fa4UM

24.01.2022 Relax, snuggle in and enjoy a massage on a truly comfy massage table!

23.01.2022 Traditionally yoga was performed at sunrise. This helps you to be more aware of the rhythms of the natural world and rhythms within your own body. A regular practice of early morning yoga is likely to result in you waking up feeling more energized and alert. Circadian sleep cycles are improved. It gets rid of the Fuzz, (see utube) Dr Gil Hedley explains how overnight our body stiffens due to being still. A yoga practice before breakfast assists the warm up of the digestive... system, boost your metabolism and digestive fire. The increase to circulation enhances metabolism, triggers endorphins and is a great alternative to coffee! You are likely to boost your immune system to face the day. Enhance mental wellbeing, boosting blood flow to the brain. Enables a positive start to the day which set you up to face stressors with more resilience. More mental clarity and a better mood. Your body is less likely to have aches and pains as it is warmed up to face activities of the regular day. You have the rest of the day to do other things! See more

23.01.2022 One of the first things I do when Im feeling down in the dumps is to try to get out in nature, but if that isnt possible try adding a few indoor plants into your space. Research suggests plants have a positive effect on stress reduction.

23.01.2022 Do you need to "recharge your batteries"? Give this workshop a go. It is thought that one hour of Yoga Nidra can be as restorative as a whole night of sleep. We start with Yin in order to stretch out your body before lying down for the Yoga Nidra session. Contact me or "Yoga Centred", to learn more.

21.01.2022 Hope to see you tomorrow for Yinyang 9am or Gentle Hatha 10.30am at Suite 10/22 Haynes St, Kalamunda.

19.01.2022 The part of my personal journey which brought me to be here sharing this post with you started when I was a teenager beginning with a basic course in Ashtanga yoga. In my teens I was a very shy and sensitive young women who suffered anxiety and depression. Striving to find my place in the world I turned firstly to the more physical ways to find empowerment. I became a bit of a fitness addict, cycling, swimming, gym training and practicing yoga intensely, in order to feel so...me sense of self-empowerment. You may relate to this?.. I still loved the endorphins created from an intense activity, this really did help enhance my mood, but I also suffered like many of us with physical limitations.. While training to be a Yoga teacher I fell in love with YinYang yoga. It created a balance of intensity and restoration, not to mention the aspect of Yoga which is so much more than the physical! Only weeks before commencing training as a yoga teacher I injured my back. One of the great things about this, was that managing an injury, during my teacher training, brought to light the power and importance of maintaining movement after an injury as well as how to work around setbacks and obstacles in life. For me, Yoga was the key to rehabilitating my back but it wasnt just the physical stretching, but more the changes in my perception. Im not sure about you, but Im hearing everywhere these days about the power of the mind and affirmations. And if you look past the fluff, it really, really is true that the way we view things affects everything! So, if any of this resonates with you, Id love to hear from you. I am starting a new class next term. And guess what it is.. you got it. Yinyang for stress and anxiety and overcoming obstacles in life. Located at the Kalamunda yoga Shala on a Wednesday morning at 9am. If you think this might be good for you, contact me. Warm wishes, Rachel See more

19.01.2022 With Christmas upon us we find ourselves in many social environments. We are social creatures.. our health and wellness also depend on it...connecting with people so good for us but sometimes it can be overwhelming. Did you know we each have a very developed nervous system to survive in a community? Can you imagine... youre interacting with a group or someone you have just met and, judging by their facial expression, you begin to feel pretty uncomfortable? Or perhaps you are... feeling totally at ease with one person and not another...why does that happen? Its a nervous system response... In my yoga therapy sessions, I help you understand your nervous system responses to the interaction with others and provide yogic tools to manage any unwanted responses. There are many ancient yogic breathing techniques that now have a great deal of modern science backing them. Follow, the polyvagal theory, Dr. Stephen Porges explains why we can get anxiety in different settings... https://youtu.be/ec3AUMDjtKQ

16.01.2022 I was very disappointed to hear that funding for many holistic healing therapies will soon be taken away from Private Health funds. It was my hope that the opposite would occur however it does really come down to this point that "Effective health care depends on self care". Look after your self and one way to do that is get a regular massage. This is an article by Dr Matt and it may just give you a little more insight if your interested in Huna. https://www.psychologytoday.com//f/201707/huna-and-healing

15.01.2022 Physical yoga more than simply exercise... Physical yoga relaxes you because we hold mental tension in our muscles. There is lots of research to show that having a good stretch can leave you feeling more at ease and relaxed. Our body is geared to respond to the world and it sends that feedback to the brain. When our muscles release tension it sends a message to the brain to also release tension.

14.01.2022 Huna was traditionally given, regularly, to all members of the family, to prevent illness and maintain a state of wellbeing. In particular, it is beneficial to restore balance for a person suffering stress, depression, grief and exhaustion. Huna, also known as Kahuna and Lomi lomi, is a name given to a massage which comes from an ancient Polynesian healing art called Hoomana. Hoomana translates to mean "maker of life force" and the meaning of the word "Huna", is similar ...to Yin and Yang in Traditional Chinese medicine. It is the amalgamation of two words; hu is a word representing the masculine energy and na is the feminine energy. They represent the pairs of opposites in the world. A Huna massage is designed to bring these two energies, within us all, into balance. Huna massage, differs from other types of massage therapy in the following ways: 1. It is very flowing and rhythmic. The unique rolling techniques are used to flow up and down the whole body, like waves of water, sending you into a deep state of relaxation. 2. The massage practitioners "dance" and breathing techniques, could be described as being similar to the movement of energy in Tai Chi or yoga. This movement enhances healing flow in the massage and also creates harmony between the practitioner and the client. The practitioner is trained to be totally focused on their client with an attitude of love and compassion. This is the essence of the "aloha" spirit that is sacred to the people of Hawaii. 3. The massage lasts for 90 minutes because time is needed to bring you to into a deep state of relaxation. 4. The therapist may use forearms, hands, elbows or feet depending on your needs for pressure and release of tension. Heated stones are frequently used to heal and soothe both physical and emotion pain. 13.01.2022 With Yoga and Huna the ultimate goal is to go "home"...With Yoga and Huna the ultimate goal is to go "home"...

13.01.2022 This is so true both metaphorically and physically. Just a little food for thought.

11.01.2022 Ive often heard quotes about loving ourselves, Isnt it really true, we are not much good to others if we cant find the time to look after ourselves. Heres a little quote I really like by Swami Vivekananda. "Our fundamental duty is to love ourselves because, to advance spiritually or materially, we must have faith in ourselves first and then in "God (or your version of whatever you perceive god to be)"

08.01.2022 Join me every Wednesday at 9am at Yoga Centred Kalamunda yoga Shala. Suite 10/22 Haynes Street

06.01.2022 Copy with social anxiety Sometimes I feel so centered and grounded and at those times I feel I can cope with just about anything. Thats usually after Ive done some yoga, meditation, had a massage or and done intense exercise. But Im sure you have experienced how our state of mind can fluctuate and if we are tired, sick, in pain, hungry, overloaded etc. we may not be at our best. The other day, I joined a group of ladies out for drinks. I rarely get out being a mum of a ...three year old and I was really keen to get out of the house and have some fun even though I didnt know many of them very well. We went to a cool little bar the size of a mini train carriage....When more and more ladies poured in the door and they all seem to know each other well, I started to feel a little nervous and slightly overwhelmed so excused myself to go to the toilet, even though I didnt really need to go. I looked in the mirror and said to myself OMG, how do I get out of here without anyone noticing, I even checked the windows, there was only one way out and that was to go past everyoneoh **** .having a mini anxiety attack I reminded myself of my copying strategy My number one copying strategy for anxiety is deep and slow breathing. Another strategy up my sleeve in a social setting is to focus on listening to others. Hey, most people like to be listened to and when I do that I really find I enjoy learning about someone else. So out I go and start listening and would you know it... I found a very interesting conversation See more

02.01.2022 Rachels Shala is about finding and reconnecting with "home" within yourself. - What does Shala mean? Shala is a Sanskrit word that translates to mean home or in the context of yoga it is often used as a name for a place which provides a nurturing and supportive environment for yogis.... I provide huna massage and yoga therapy to support you in taking "a breather" and re-alignment with yourself and others.
