19.01.2022 High profile Sydney trainer Bjorn Baker has become a regular at Orange and invariably heads home to his Warwick Farm stables with one or more winners. At the Towac Park meeting on Tuesday he won with O’Tartan Las and Egyptian Missile , both being ridden by Mitchell Bell. O’Tartan Lass ( $1.55 favourite ) led for home and held on to win by a half neck from the promising Prodigal Prince ( Tony Cavallo,$4.20 ) with Sea Of Flames ( Brendan Ward,$8.50 ) third in the 1600 metres To...p Coat Epoxy Flooring Maiden Plate. The regally bred Egyptian Missile ( $1.55 fav.) followed a last start Bathurst win with a slashing performance to take out the 1280 metres The Oriana Orange Class 1 Handicap. Mitchell Bell allowed his mount to race near the back of the field and when given more rein, Egyptian Missile quickly rounded up the opposition and swept to a four and a half lengths win over Brunela ( Ken Dunbar,$31 ) and Lasteightyate ( Greg Ryan,$5 ). The other leg of a winning treble for Mitchell Bell was the Grant Allard, Gosford trained Majestic Shot in the 1000 metres Spanline Orange Maiden Plate. Majestic Shot ( $2.20 fav ) broke clear in the straight and scored by two lengths from Old Harbour ( Kath Bell-Pitomac which was having only the second outing in almost two years. Grant Allard also trains Timon Stinger ( Rory Hutchings,$1.60 fav.) an all the way winner of the 1300 metres Buckley’s Carpet Court Maiden Handicap by five lengths from Thrillology ( Grant Buckley,$5.50 ) and Last Shout Budgie ( Mitchell Bell,$8.50 ). A betting plunge failed to bear fruit when the Michael Lynch, Cowra trained Just In The Clear was beaten by a short half head in the 1600 metres Orange Vet Hospital Benchmark 58 Handicap. Early shoppers snapped up $12 and the odds kept tumbling to see Just In The start the $4 favourite. Down the straight Mathew Cahill rode desperately on Just In The Clear which had come from midfield however the Brooke Somers, Hawkesbury trained Tormund ( Brendan Ward,$4.60 ) after setting the pace, lasted to win. The other winners were Hard Expectations ( Reece Jones,$2.80 fav.) from the Daniel Robinson stable at Hawkesbury and My Little Racer ( Grant Buckley,$4.20 fav.) trained by Peter Green at Hawkesbury. On the well presented track, six favourites won on Tuesday and punters will be keen to build on their winnings at the next Orange meeting, the TLE Tradies $ Ladies Day on Friday, November 20. Horses to follow, from Orange on Tuesday:- Prodigal Prince, Old Harbour, Egyptian Missile. - Colin Hodges

06.01.2022 Race 10 Winner ‘Gisela’s Crown’ - Trainer Rodney Robb - Jockey M. Heaney

01.01.2022 The new season of racing at Orange was off to a great start on Monday with a mammoth 10 race program held on a track which had safely coped with over 25ml of rain leading up to the meeting. After the devastating drought in New South Wales it was very pleasing to see the big dam at Towac Park full to overflowing, giving assurance of long term adequate irrigation needs for the Racecourse. Now a leading trainer in Sydney with a Golden Slipper winner to his credit, Gary Portelli ...enjoys supporting racing at Orange where he served an apprenticeship as a pastrycook at Roberts Bakery when that business was operated by keen racing fan David Player. From his Warwick Farm stables Portelli produced a winning double on Monday, Lasteightyate and Autumn Falls, both ridden by champion jockey Greg Ryan. Coming from back in the field Lasteightyate ( $5.50 ) beat Fast Play ( $3.80 ) by almost a length with Prodigal Prince ( $7.50 ) third in the 1280 metres Kennards Hire & DVM Embroidery Maiden Plate. Autumn Falls ( $2 favourite ) took the lead turning for home and held on to win the Epiroc Maiden Handicap ( 1400 metres ) from All Too Rio ( $2.70 ) and El Jay ( $31 ). For many years Rodney Robb has been a highly successful trainer at Nyngan and more recently he has also been operating stables at Dubbo from where he supplied a winning treble at Orange, With over 130 winners Clayton Gallagher completed his apprenticeship with Rodney Robb last month and is off to a flying start as a senior jockey including wins at Orange on the Robb trained Schwanky Doo ( $3.80 ) and So Good To Me ( $13 ). Michael Heagney was aboard the third leg of the Rodney Robb treble Gisela’s Crown ( $21 ) which led all the way to defeat Bonitas ( $14 ) and Poetic Harmony ( 7.50 ) in the 1300 metres Class 2 Handicap. Regarded as the fastest horse over a short course in the Central Districts, the appropriately named Just A Flash as the $1.50 favourite cruised home in the MCSIGNS Benchmark 66 Handicap. Trained at Cowra by Andrew Molloy for Peter Evans from Orange, Just A Flash ridden by Eleanor Webster-Hawes led throughout to win by over 3 lengths from The Inflamer ( $8.50 ) and I Stole Your Love ( $7 ). Suggested as a horse to follow is Daredevil a runaway winner in good time on the soft track in the 1000 metres Class 1 Handicap. A recent addition to the Kody Nestor stable at Dubbo, the four year old Daredevil ( $2.45 favourite ) ridden by apprentice Liam Blanch, found the early lead and was very impressive when winning by nearly four lengths from Not Negotiating ( $81 ) and Valerian ( $6.50 ). Next meeting at Orange is on Tuesday 6th October. Colin Hodges.
