09.01.2022 Who wants to buy a $5 square to support a fundraiser for Farnsworth family? Comment below with which number you would like. All profits go to Ben and Laura. The gift of life is a beautiful thing, a lifeline to keep going, an ensurance that a family will have some quality time together and choices about your life. Ben having polycystic kidney disease lost his choices and after years of declining health Ben went into kidney failure much quicker than others with no real explan...ation or answers from his specialist. He was given a living transplant from his mum in 2014, a huge relief for his wife and 4 kids, his youngest daughter at the time, not quite 1 who learned to walk in hospital away from the joy and happiness of home. This new kidney, although a perfect match has never taken. heartbreaking and devastating news to be told. For the last 3 years Ben's medical team have worked tirelessly to try and save it. numerour biopsies, high doses of antirejection medication, an angiogram, countless blood tests and trips to Melbourne, all to no avail. The most recent trip to Melbourne for a routine check turned into Ben being told yet again he had end stage kidney failure. months of planning was hastily shortened as plans were immediately put in place and he was admitted 2 days later for surgery, removal of another 4.5kg kidney (to add to the first one) and insertion of a permacath in his chest to start dialysis immediately in intensive care the same day. Life now consists of a balancing act, work, kids (aged 11,9,7 and 5) and dialysis 3 times a week, hooked up for 5hrs each time until a new kidney is available, a time unknown. Adding to this pressure the need to avoid additional side effects from the medications such as development of cancer, risk of diabetes and the need to maintain a set weight. With all this still going on Ben and Laura continue to make sure their kids dont miss out , contribute where they can in community groups, kids activities and help out others in need. Life is tough.
