23.01.2022 THE 1ST & 2ND FILIPINO INFANTRY REGIMENTS BLADES When you examine the old historical pictures of the 1st & 2nd Filipino Infantry soldiers you can se...e two different blades: a Machete and a Bolo Knife. The MACHETE appears to be the extra long mod. 460 made by Legitimus Collins & Co. The BOLO KNIFE, made by "U.S. Spring and Bumper Company, Los Angeles, CA.", was added to their combat inventory in 1943 by the will of Colonel Robert H. Offley. The U.S. Spring and Bumper Company of Los Angeles, CA, received the contract to make 4,500 of these. They were presented to them by the Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce. Only a few thousand were issued to the Regiments during a ceremonial parade event at Camp Cooke, California. The remainder was later sent into the Philippines as part of the shipment of arms to the guerillas operating under the direction of ISRM (I Shall Return, MacArthur). 16.01.2022 Radcliffe College of Self Defence and Filipino Martial Arts is a Weapons based school of Martial Arts. Our main syllabus is Modern Arnis covering Filipino Stick Fighting, Palm Stick (dos puntos) and their Indigenous Edged Weapons including the Dagger, Karambit, Barong, Kampilan and other edged Espada. In addition to these weapons we also touch on the application of the Nunchucku, Bo, Tonfa, Sai, Kama, Katana, Thai Swords. We also train in Hand to Hand combat influenced by styles from Okinawa, Japan and the Philippines. If this gets you interested in trying something new you are welcome to come down a give it a try.

12.01.2022 I have not conducted a grading for about 10 years. It is great to have students who want to progress in the Modern Arnis system. The grading session this week was a terrific event and the students showed great development to progress to their Yellow Belt. So much to learn over the next few years as they progress through the belts toward their Black Belts.
