20.01.2022 Not a bad office for this afternoon's study.
20.01.2022 Wednesday Wisdom. Health isn’t a product . It’s the sum total of our daily actions and experiences. The last paragraph of this article is the essence of Radiant Pilates. ... Thank you Polestar Education for a great excerpt and being a guiding light.
20.01.2022 Mmmm Charlie is not so inspired by my Pilates workout this morning.
19.01.2022 So my Radiant people, Elizabeth is one of our senior instructor and educators in Perth for Polestar Pilates Australia and recently posted this. Myself , Tammy and many colleagues have completed the strict Polestar requirements. These are ; 18months study in addition to observations hours , apprentice teaching and self mastery hours ( all requiring check off signatures ) adding up to something around 300hrs. We then sit a written and practical exam. Enough said. ... Pilates is more than just a bunch of exercises. Every exercise is multi layered and can be as complex or as simple to execute based on your previous movement patterns and strategies. That’s not to say we all need to move the same way or even execute an exercise exactly the same way BUT... if you haven’t studied the depth of possible movement options then you are just being taught ‘ an exercise’ not a movement strategy to use in all aspects of your day. I firmly believe in empowering people and knowledge is empowering. Decide what you need and find out what qualifications your Pilates instructor has. Ok... stepping off my soapbox.

15.01.2022 This weeks Wednesday Wisdom is about The Breath. Part 1 is how different breath patterns and thorax mechanics relate. Article is now on the website. https://www.radiantpilates.com.au//breath-and-the-importan
15.01.2022 Wednesday Wisdom this week is answering a question that I have been asked in the clinic since starting my studying journey with Dr Linda-Joy Lee in Nov 2018. The question is what is ConnectTherapy TM ? I often pause and think it is everything ! and has changed my physio world ! In short, it is a framework and systematic approach that considers everything in the body to be related. Past injuries, current movement patterns, your thoughts emotions and even how you relate to your... therapist. We look for a Driver which is the ‘key’ or the way in to begin to see how your body works. This may sound far fetched but an easy connection to think about is that old ankle injury or achilles strain that is no longer sore but has influenced how you exist and move in the world. It could be the Driver for your current experience of neck pain or shoulder pain. Finding this information allows for a whole body approach to your hands on treatment and exercise program design and pilates experience. Read more about this under the Articles and info Tab at Radiant Pilates. Happy Wednesday everyone.

10.01.2022 This ebook is fabulous. Even if you don’t have kids there is great advice inside where we can stop and ask our own inner tween when they may be having a tantrum ! I know my own 14yr old self pops up now and then to stop around. Maybe we can be kind to ourselves and ask some of these questions to our own inner selves. A morning thought to ponder today.
08.01.2022 Nicola is one of our Radiant crew and a Boyanup local. She has a great way of making systems seem simple. Check out her new upcoming course.
08.01.2022 Let's take a look at a popular hip stretch for your deep hip rotators - namely piriformis.
06.01.2022 Tammy’s Thursday 8am class showing amazing form - summer bodies start their journey in Autumn.
05.01.2022 mmmm so not quite Saturday but a gorgeous Sunday afternoon study session to practice my feet skills from the ConnectTherapy TM series I completed last year. One of my U14's footy players with groin pain had a huge improvement with corrections to his foot on the opposite side plus a rib correction and was back playing after one session. I think we were both equally excited !
05.01.2022 WEDNESDAY WISDOM this week is about CURIOSITY. So yesterday afternoon I started to experience R shin/calf pain for no reason. It was sharp enough to make me limp during a studio session. As I was discussing this with a client I realised that ConnectTherapy has taught me to be curious about how my body moves and behaves in the world rather than make assumptions about the cause and look for ‘quick fixes’ or just symptom relief. ... When your body talks to you ( and I know some of my peeps with chronic pain feel their bodies are toooo chatty and we work with that ) , but if you can pause, feel and do a check of ....where is my weight Left to Right? Front to Back ? Where is my attention drifting? Or being drawn to ? And can I find my center ? That may be your physical centre...Or emotional centre... let’s stay with the physical for now ... then where do I feel the stickyness or tightness ? Be curious as this may draw you to your Driver even if you don’t know what it is. Trust in yourself and stay curious with how your body exists in space. And yes there is a more mechanical way to just correct your driver but what’s the fun in just knowing that on its own? PS. I made some energy and mechanical adjustments but did reach for those acupressure suction cups ! Ouch ! But all fixed today.
05.01.2022 Love this. Busselton health professionals looking after themselves. Thanks Mindful Living Psychology
03.01.2022 Tammy’s classes are back. Physio is open for more hours and I am back in the studio. The place is pumping again . See you all soon.
03.01.2022 So you may have been told to do this stretch or you have been doing it for years for your piriformis BUT any idea where this muscle lives in your hip and pelvis? This muscle connects the sacrum and the greater trochanter which is that bumpy bone on the side of your upper leg that is sometimes referred to as being your hip itself. Why is this important ? ... To stretch a muscle you need to anchor one end of it to ensure that is the structure you are targeting. So when doing this stretch aim to keep your pelvis = sacrum = one end of where pirifomis attaches - flat in the floor. As you bring your hip joint into flexion then feel for the first point of stretch THEN PAUSE and see if you can ‘nod’ your tailbone towards the floor. If you then have more stretch slowly bring your knee towards your chest. This ‘sacral nod’ is not the same as arching your back to get your pelvis flat. THINGS TO TRY. You can have your non-stretching leg resting in a fitball / couch / or the wall to prevent your thorax from being influenced as you try to hold your thigh. This may not be the best quality video but it will give you the idea ! Piriformis syndrome is when the sciatic nerve is irritated by the piriformis muscle. If this stretch aggravates any pain you may have then physiotherapy can help.
02.01.2022 WEDNESDAY WISDOM today is a topical topic ! Immune system support. I have been feeling a bit like I need a holiday! ( sounds familiar to everyone witb our Spring peeking around the corner ). So took time this morning to go for a run and then have breakfast of a chia pudding, fermented coconut yoghurt and some juicy strawberries. This quote resonates with me and is from a great book , that I flip in and out of on my kindle. ( warning... I do confess to finding it slightly exhausting to read at times ) So get out in nature this weekend , eat yummy local produce , rest and hug someone or a furry friend - or both
01.01.2022 Sooo another question I am asked a lot in the clinic is how do ribs and thorax mechanics affect shoulder pain and range of movement? This is usually when I am looking for trigger points deep within someone’s shoulder blade ! OUCH ! Here is a quick anatomy lesson showing the attachments of 2 of the most common muscles involved.
