25.01.2022 You may have seen in the Capricorn Coast Mirror the today (May 26th) marks 250 years since Captain Cook anchored in Keppel Bay. A number of vessels, including from Coast Guard Keppel Sands QF20 and Coast Guard Yeppoon QF11, will be holding a commemorative gathering, within Covid-19 safety guidelines, about halfway between Yeppoon and North Keppel Island. To support this, Coast Guard Keppel Sands and Keppel FM have co-ordinated to relay the Marine Radio broadcast via the Out...side Broadcast Van speakers, from Wreck Point. Members of the public are welcome to come and listen in - PROVIDED Safe distancing and General Guidelines for being in a public space are adhered to. We recommend remaining in your vehicle if possible to listen, unless you are viewing the at-sea gathering, for which you would require binoculars. The details are: All boats would be in position by 1145 hrs, when there would be a short commemorative speech (relayed through Keppel FM Outside Broadcast van at Wreck Point) followed by the casting of a wreath into the ocean at midday, exactly 250 years after James Cook sailed ENDEAVOUR over the very spot. At the end of this short ceremony, all boats would be invited to cruise another 2 nautical miles East to the position that ENDEAVOUR anchored for the night, before departing around the south of Pumpkin Island and then turning north. Reminders will be broadcast from the van to maintain distancing. We appreciate everyones support in this.

09.01.2022 Wondering how the two person rule works? For a residence or household, the number of people allowed to gather in that house is limited to the usual members ...of that household, plus two other visitors who are family or close friends. Please only leave your home for essential reasons - weve commented them below Update: Weve noticed a number of people asking two very important questions about this post: 1. Does this mean I can make a social visit? 2. Are my children included in this count. The answers are: 1. For this weekend and the foreseeable future, we recommend only leaving your house and visiting others for essential purposes, for example providing them with assistance or support such as bringing them groceries they cannot purchase themselves, helping with medical care or helping them with urgent household tasks they are unable to do themselves. 2. The Home Confinement Direction states that only two people who do not live in a residence may visit at one time. This includes children and infants. We understand this can be difficult for families, however this rule is in place to protect all members of our community from the spread of COVID-19.
