24.01.2022 Understanding Warnings and Emergency Information You should never wait to receive an official warning before you leave. Fires can start quickly and threaten homes and lives within minutes. Understand the levels of warnings and don’t expect warnings to be issued in any particular order. The first warning you may get could be an Emergency Warning.... https://www.cfa.vic.gov.au/warnings-restrict/about-warnings

22.01.2022 We have received many comments both good and bad regarding the 1 hour sports show. KLFM is a local non profit community station that receives no Local, State or Federal Funding. We raise our funds through our own fundraising efforts, Donations and the Wonderful support from Local Businesses that help keep us on air. The sports show, which is only 1 hour per day has attracted many new business sponsors, along with our existing sponsors, whom without them, there would be NO KLF...M. We understand that the show is not for everyone, but it helps ensure we keep going so you can enjoy all the other programmes we run. It costs around $250,000 per year to run this station, so our wonderful Business sponsors including those during Sports Day make it possible to stay one step ahead of all the bills without having to beg to you every day for money, so it is a bit of a trade off. I do thank you for your understanding and shows like this ensure we are here for you 24hours a day, 7 days a Week. From Brad Geier, Founder and General Manager of KLFM. See more

11.01.2022 Air race centenary plaque unveiling. East Loddon Historical Society Inc on November 11,2020 shall unveil a plaque to commemorate one hundred years since the Second Peace Loan Aerial Derby started from Serpentine. This race is more recognised as Australia's first official air race. For the 1985 Australia Day ceremony a monument and plaque was constructed and unveiled to commemorate the Aerial Derby.... The 2020 centenary plaque will now be placed on this monument. The actual Race day happened on 27th August 1920. Covid 19 restrictions we were not able to hold a ceremony on the 27th August 2020. With easing of these restrictions, planning is underway to hold a ceremony on November 11,2020 with the limit of 10 guests. Other people wanting to witness this special event, will be more than welcome to attend, but strict Covid 19 restrictions will apply. Discussion is underway to film the event. I am not sure if it is to be streamed live, go out as a podcast or attached to the East Loddon Historical Society Inc Facebook page. Shall hopefully know more by end of week. As part of this occasion contact has been made with a few Biplane owners to find one available to do a flyover on Nov 11. This is still to be confirmed. The bronze plaque designed by Amanda Rudkins of Prairie and made by D P Jones of Kyabram brings together the names of the four pilots and four mechanics who flew in the original race and the aerial derby organizer, inter played with the logo used by East Loddon Historical Society Inc for the planned Centenary Commemoration 'Wings of Peace'1920-2020 major event with the running of the Serpentine Cup for biplanes. This event was to have happened back in March and has been rescheduled to Sunday 28th February 2021. Funding for the plaque has been supported by a bequest of Mary Kentish of Pompapiel, who was a very keen supporter of the East Loddon Historical Society Inc. To find out more about the Serpentine Air Race event on 28 February next year visit https://serpentineairrace.com.au/

04.01.2022 Heads up this harvest season With millions of tonnes of grain and crops set to hit Victorian roads in the coming weeks, Regional Roads Victoria (RRV) is reminding drivers to stay safe this harvest season. RRV Regional Director (Northern Victoria) Brian Westley said that with Victoria’s winter crop yields expected to increase by six per cent this season, drivers should prepare for an influx of trucks and heavy agricultural machinery on the state’s regional roads between now and May 2021.
04.01.2022 Experiences of migrant and refugee women sought for advocacy and support Women in Australia from a migrant or refugee background are being sought for a nationwide survey into their experiences to inform advocacy and shape reform. In partnership with Harmony Alliance, Monash University’s Migration and Inclusion Centre (MMIC) has released a survey today that aims to increase understanding of issues important to women from migrant and refugee backgrounds.... The survey will focus on safety and wellbeing, and responses will inform advocacy for migrant and refugee women based on their own views and experiences. It will be offered in nine languages - Arabic, Thai, Vietnamese, Farsi, Nepali, Simplified Chinese, Korean, Punjabi and English - and is open to all who identify as a migrant or refugee woman living in Australia over the age of 18 years old. The survey is anonymous and will take about 20 minutes to complete and is accessible via a QR code on Harmony Alliance and MMIC’s Twitter pages MMIC Deputy Director Associate Professor Marie Segrave urged as many women as possible to take part. This is such an important opportunity for you to tell us, to tell policymakers and governments, welfare organisations, charities and the rest of Australia about you and your experiences, she said. This will help lead the national agenda and improve outcomes for migrant and refugee women in Australia. Chair of Harmony Alliance, Maria Dimopolous AM, said: We know that migrant and refugee women’s situations are unique in view of their migration and settlement experiences. This survey will bridge significant data and knowledge gaps about the equity of access, experiences and outcomes for migrant and refugee women in all their diversity. Importantly, this survey is about what matters to us and how we can collectively inform and shape advocacy for positive change. Findings from the survey will be collated and published in a report later this year.

01.01.2022 Wednesday 30 September 2020 For immediate release Authority granted for postal vote contingency The Victorian Electoral Commission (VEC) has been provided the authority to extend the postal voting timeline for the current Victorian local council elections if necessary to ensure that voter participation and election results are not affected by any possible mail delivery delays. ... Seventy-six of Victoria’s 79 local councils* are having elections in October and all are being conducted by post. Electoral Commissioner, Warwick Gately, welcomes the changes as an appropriate contingency option to respond to community concerns about extended mail delivery timelines arising from the COVID-19 pandemic. The VEC is engaging regularly with Australia Post and will be using the priority paid mail service for all postal ballots mailed and returned, but I accept there may be some delays, Mr Gately says. The strict timelines for the mailing and receipt of ballot packs is prescribed by law. The authority provided to me by the regulatory amendments allows me if required to mitigate the impact that any possible delays could have on the integrity of the elections. I will not risk voters being deprived of the right to vote. This action doesn’t mean the timelines will change, just that they may be changed if there is any evidence that delays in the postal network are impacting the integrity of the elections. *The following councils are under administration and will not be having elections this year: Casey City Council, South Gippsland Shire Council and Whittlesea City Council.
