25.01.2022 Thank you Addison Road Community Organisation for the sweet treats! Check out some of the work they've been doing to re-distribute some of their charity donations below.

23.01.2022 The final countdown begins! Radio Skid Row is on air 24 hours a day, seven days a week and every year it costs us around $130,000 to stay on air. Transmitters, studio panels, electricity and rent all add up. Our first target is the bare minimum we need to stop from calling in the administrators, and only reaching this target means clearing out the small amount of savings we had managed to hold on to after last year's unprecedented fundraiser. We need to create a buffer in our bank account, to be prepared for any unforeseen costs or repairs to our equipment and make sure the station can continue to thrive and grow! Help to secure our future by donating at: https://startsomegood.com/radioskidrow2020

22.01.2022 Hi everyone its Sol here ! I wanna make a special shout-out to HUNA AMWEERO who's the one responsible for bringing us young ones into the station. Huna has been part of the station nearly her whole life - she had her own show in primary school! Because of this she sure knows how to bring home the importance of Radio Skid Row. In one the first meetings the Youth Collective had, we watched a documentary on Radio Skid Row's involvement during the Invasion Day protests in 1988.... At that point we knew we had joined something special, and Huna was the one who first identified the need for Radio Skid Row to not just be a relic of the past, but a force for the future. WHICH MEANT... getting young people in and training them up. And working the studio and editing aren't the only things I've learnt at Skid Row - I also learnt how to pitch a program for funding, how to write episodes, even how to make memes (some of which you will see in the upcoming days...) And all this because of Huna's genius brain in meeting young people where they are and working with that instead of throwing information at us in an elitist way and excluding people cause they weren't birthed with a mic in their hand (though you could probably believe Huna was... anyways.) THANK YOU HUNA for all your hard work! We're SIX days away from the end of the fundraiser and we're so close to our target at $70000, but imagine all we could do with more! So if you wanna hear more stories like this then help keep us open by donating at startsomegood.com/radioskidrow2020

16.01.2022 The foundations of Radio Skid Row were laid with Indigenous self-determination as a priority largely thanks to Tiga Bayles' leadership. The station supported a growing number of artists and activists from the local Redfern community which quickly became a significant force in the station. The Radio Redfern collective of presenters eventually squatted two terraces in Cope St Redfern and built a studio which was connected to Radio Skid Row. Radio Redfern became legendary in its own right. We could write a book about what it achieved in the 80s. 15.01.2022 One of the great things about the Radio Skid Row-Radio Redfern connexion which doesn't get told is the way non-Indigenous folks had to learn to become allies and collaborators. The station held a decolonisation workshop back in the 80's which proved to be a turning point bringing all sort of disparate groups together in a more genuine and practical solidarity. These are important lessons which folks could learn from today. Here are some of the original creative and talented group of allies and collaborators. Also check the posters on the walls in some of these shots. Thanks for the photos Kyrn. To help keep us running on more than the bare minimum goal donate at startsomegood.com/radioskidrow2020

13.01.2022 As we head into the last week of this epic fundraiser, we wanted to post some of the photos and archives which have been sent in to us by old skid rowers in the last few weeks. We love this one of Franny Little in the studio with Astrid Spielman and Cheryl Rose. Franny was on air at Skid Row as part of the Radio Redfern team. Her father, Jimmy Little was also a regular guest on the station and continued to come and sing for us in the studio and open our fundraisers in the 90s. 11.01.2022 In the 90's 13 members of the Maori community came to Skid Row to do a Certificate III course in media. This was the first accredited course delivered at a community radio station. The station has since delivered training for hundreds of people who have completed their Certificate III and IV. The original course was full of songs and fun. The Saturday breakfast show which came out of it was the beginning of the Pacific Wave programs on air today. Continue to support us at https://startsomegood.com/radioskidrow2020
