"As a Registered Nurse/Midwife who learnt at University that one of the most important things we ...can focus on in health care is Primary Care....the prevention of illness. By doing this, we aim to minimise or prevent illness and ultimately save the higher costs of Secondary and Tertiary care. With this in mind, why would the Government work to remove Natural Therapies, effective forms of Primary Health care, from Private Health funds? It is well known the research this decision was based on was flawed, so why is it going ahead? Surely it is up to the individual health funds? Many of my friends and family have benefited immensely from utilizing these Natural Therapies. They are a huge part of Primary care...working to keep people healthy. Myself, my family and friends are not on any medications - we are all healthy (and I am almost 50 and my dad- 80). I believe we maintain our health by using Natural Therapies. Our bodies are our temple and without good health, we have nothing. As individuals, we should also have the right to choose what kind of health care we feel is right for us. Surely using natural therapies, taking control of our own health and not requiring regular Dr or Hospital visits is a good thing....no doubt saving the tax payers many, many dollars. I work in a hospital that does not have enough beds for our aging population. We regularly "buy beds" from our private hospital at a premium fee. I believe this issue is going to get worse with the removal of Homeopathy and Naturopathy from Private Care funds. For too long now, Big Pharma corporations have had too much power and this is just another example. Please do what is right for the health of our people...not the pocket of the drug companies. I will certainly be voting this election with this issue close to my heart. If this directive goes ahead, I for one will cancel my private health policy as will many of my friends...which will put even more pressure on our already heavily burdened health system. It is nothing short of insane. Do the right thing, allow us choice in healthcare and do not remove these amazing health modalities from Private Health funds." .
