01.01.2022 We have loaded the review of Australian alpaca classing standards onto our website. This paper was prepared at the request of a number of alpaca breeders, and c...an be found using the following link: http://www.aaft.com.au/Classing%20paper.pdf As previously mentioned, I expected this paper to be considered provocative, but to my surprise, almost all who have offered feedback state they agree with its contents and in particular, the conclusions. In saying that, a couple of breeders felt that treating alpaca fleeces as a commercial commodity was inappropriate. Further, some did not like my comments regarding the inclusion of crimp definition when classing fleeces. Obviously, the amount of data at the moment is limited, however, we will be preparing a second evaluation at a later date. Any feedback is welcomed.
