25.01.2022 Who else has felt like theyre either in trouble or about to be? Who else has felt like theyre about to get yelled at or hit? Who else has ...felt like they need to apologize when they havent done anything wrong? Who else has felt like a burden when asking for support in getting their needs met? Please let me remind you: Youre not in trouble. You are not going to get yelled at or hit. You did not do anything wrong and you do not need to apologize. Your asking for support in getting your needs met is not a burden. You are not a burden. You are safe. Let your body know. Remember to nurture your sweet self so you may nurture your sweet littles. Reparent yourselves lovingly and daily, comunidad. 24.01.2022 Very, very good point raised.

24.01.2022 This was a hard read. Content warning. https://www.nytimes.com//our-bodies-their-battlefields-chr

24.01.2022 Ooops, a bit of a soap failure first time making dish-washing soap, and thought I’d make fine green and red lines on the top to make them pretty. First mistake was using red clay - this stuff is very, very red Second mistake was the piping bags - cuts made were too large so the lines came out too thick. Combining both mistakes meant I’d have red foam when I’m washing dishes So I scraped off the red and green lines off two of the bowls, and had enough red soap to fill a ramekin not sure I’m game to use the red soap, but the others seem ok. These should cure within a few days as they are mostly coconut oil-based, and 0% superfat (good for washing, not good for bathing). Smells lovely though! Peppermint, peppermint gum and sweet birch.

23.01.2022 Racism steals so much from people, but we are often hesitant to name it because it threatens to take more from us. It’s easy to point to the belligerent person hurling slurs and to call them out on it. It often costs more to name when racism comes with a smile. If the racist has to state, I wasn’t being racist, chances are, they were. Very much so.

21.01.2022 Ooops. Guilty of this. And the more busy I get, the harder it is for me to get out of being busy and to rest. Its a bit of a learning journey for me to get un-busy. Funny story: my husbands business is doing well now, after 5 years of hard work (from both of us - me carrying the bulk financial amongst others). The other day, I said I can now be a lady of leisure, and how many days does he reckon it would take for me to get bored out of my brains. An hour, was his answer.

21.01.2022 Fascinating read! Growing up immersed in Traditional Chinese Medicine approaches, I was taught keeping warm and avoiding cold was important to stay healthy. Its rather interesting to see some Western-based scientific research supporting this hypothesis. It also reminds me of when I was in hospital back in 2010, battling a fever post-surgery, and a particular doctor was insistent about reducing my fever by having a fan blow on me, and a large wet towel placed over my chest ... I fought hard against that directive and despite fighting, I had to endure it for a while until it was too late at night and the night checks were few so the nurses couldnt see that I had ditched the towel and shoved the fan away. (Oh, and that doctor gave me a nice squeeze on my non-injured foot when he started to do obs. I filed a report against him after). https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7372531/

21.01.2022 food for thought? And yes, you can be both - its not a either-or situation. https://www.facebook.com/131136666907498/posts/3386492484705217/

20.01.2022 In my case, it takes effort to speak up.

19.01.2022 Wow, tears! If we can see what heart coherence looks like, this is it!

19.01.2022 very interesting perspective. Note that this post in set within the context of ending chancla culture (the slipper), where the slipper is used as a tool for discipline, yet is laughed and joked about.

18.01.2022 Ooof, my heart Lately, Im reading more from the perspectives of those with ADHD. Less than a year ago, my husband admitted he probably has undiagnosed ADHD, and speaking with friends who has kids with ADHD, Im seeing many, many similarities. Its hard being the partner of someone with ADHD, and PTSD. ... I can see it is hard having ADHD and PTSD. (But I probably can never truly understand what its like being neurodivergent in a society not made for you). Weve come a long way in our marriage dealing with the issues those throw up, combined with my own anxiety with depressive symptoms. One of the things we used to have massive arguments about was the mess hed leave. I used to think it was him expecting me to do the work of cleaning up, or disrespect for my labour. I also used to secretly think he was lazy and disorganised. But it was that his executive function is different to mine, his brain wiring is different to mine, AND a lot of his behaviours were PTSD-related. It has been a big journey of him reaching a resolution with his trauma, and creating work that works perfectly for his brain and skills - moving up to the hills on land was the best thing for him. And myself working on my own issues with various professionals in different modalities. Find what works for you. Medication. Therapy. Therapies. A combination. And also people who get you. The best thing for us was meeting friends who had zero judgements of him and myself. Our marriage isnt typical either, whatever that means, but it sure has helped having friends who dont care, and see the growth of the person, not their immediate presentation

16.01.2022 Final Blackwood market of 2020 is tomorrow, Sunday the 5th! (Gosh, it has been a while! The last market I did, photo below, was back in March!!) 11.01.2022 Unexpected day off, since I’m deemed non-essential and can’t go into aged care today, so I get to make a batch of magnesium magic butter! Utensils soaking in a bleach solution, after going through the dishwasher, which then gets rinsed with boiling hot water and sprayed with ethanol. Also planning to make a batch of luxurious cream to go with a petition to the Aged Care Minister’s office, to demonstrate how important it is for our elderly to experience non-medical touch, and... the benefits of aromatherapy. A lot of my aromatherapy work has gone quiet on this front, as my energies have been channeled into helping run the aromatherapy association, of which I am a council member, and doing advocacy work behind the scenes. It does feel good to just focus on making good products for a bit. I might run a batch of Rosemary hydrosol as well since the sun is shining and generating solar power!

11.01.2022 Interesting article, and also pretty cool (sorry, cant think of a more professional word ) that it is being tested in Defence. Citriodole is a constituent extracted from Corymbia citriodora, also known as lemon eucalyptus. Its hard to know what concentration the citriodole is in the spray, since it is an extracted component, whilst C. citriodora is composed of about a 100 constituents. I was getting annoyed with a runny nose and nasal congestion, so decided to make a ble...nd of lemon eucalyptus (3 drops), rosemary (3 drops) and peppermint (1 drop). Straight onto a towel (haha, my daughters baby burp cloths come in handy still!), and inhale as I need. You can use a diffuser; I dont, since we have cats. You can use a personal inhaler; I dont, since I feel bad about the plastic. You can also do hot water in a bowl trick, where you put a few drops into a bowl of hot water, and have your head over the bowl for a minute. Heres a link for further information about Corymbia citriodora eo: http://www.jsirjournal.com/Vol2Issue503.pdf If you havent got lemon eucalyptus, regular eucalyptus (E. radiata) is fine too - I just find E. radiata to be quite volatile, so the scent doesnt linger long, whereas C. corymbia has some heavier notes that linger. I chose rosemary eo due to its benefit on cognitive function (fizzy head from blocked sinuses) as well as its decongestant effect. And peppermint for its effect on the nervous system, hence why its only a drop. Menthol only peppermint is a vasodilator, which isnt what you want when youre trying to stop a runny nose. https://www.theguardian.com//citriodiol-based-spray-can-he

11.01.2022 Rae of Light Clinic is reopening on 1st June! And if your body has been missing its massages like mine, a regular treatment isnt enough! So how about booking in for a hot stone massage? Well let the heated stones do its fabulous magic in relaxing all those tight muscles, so I can then get in and loosen the knots, and get flow happening again! And as usual, Ill pick essential oils that work best for your needs on the day (Im guessing marjoram and lavender will feature a ...lot for their adrenal support - we have had some challenging times!!) And if you take up the June special, youll get a second treatment to use up within 3 months, as well as save some dollar-bucks (we have been watching repeats of Bluey). Single hot stone massage session is $125. June special is 2 x hot stone treatments for $235. **I am only accepting one booking a day, between 10am and 2pm. 10.01.2022 reminder for those times when you worry you arent doing enough...

09.01.2022 Important read for the aromatherapy industry

08.01.2022 A dysregulated adult trying to control a dysregulated child often ends poorly Oooof. I definitely have my bad days, especially when Im already being very critical towards myself, when I react badly to my child screaming at me (she is in dysregulation from being at school all week). Its ok. We make mistakes. Acknowledge, repair the relationship, come back into regulation, strengthen that relationship. ... Parenting is also an act of forgiveness - of others and most especially of ourselves, every single day. https://www.facebook.com/187820993668/posts/10158776793088669/

08.01.2022 Wow, this is promising! https://www.facebook.com/143315189081723/posts/3344897205590156/

08.01.2022 It was an awesome day at the market today despite the weather! I’ve forgotten how amazing and supportive the market community is, and it was so good to see visitors doing their Christmas shopping buying gifts for loved ones and supporting local businesses! It was also good to see familiar faces in my local community!! I’m absolutely tired though - I’ve also forgotten how much energy it takes me, an introvert, to be in a crowd - although it wasn’t that big, the hypervigilance of maintaining social distancing took its toll. I did get Miss R her lovely head band, to make up for not letting her come with me today

07.01.2022 Ive recently started working in an aged care facility one day a week as an aromatherapist. Ive come across quite a few dementia patients. This story, is pretty damn awesome!

07.01.2022 Just came across the term, DARVO - this acronym is short for Deny, Attack, and Reverse Victim and Offender. It is a specific form of gaslighting. **note: Content warning: the article linked has some examples that may be triggering** Supporting Freyds (1997) concept that DARVO functions to instill confusion (and thereby discourage victims from speaking about their abusive experiences), our data revealed an important link between DARVO exposure and confronters feelings of ...self-blame: the more DARVO an individual was exposed to during a confrontation, the more likely the confronter was to experience self-blame regarding the incident that provoked the confrontation. I recently had a couple of incidents with another professional in my industry, and experienced quite a few of the psychological symptoms of harm described. The second incident that occurred via phone call, I had my laptop open and ready to document the conversation, which in hindsight was a great strategy in making sure my responses stayed calm and rational during the incident, and also afterwards when I tend to replay confrontations in my mind. This is something I often advice people experiencing harassment or bullying - document everything. This is important when youre likely to self-blame for such incidences. https://www.tandfonline.com//full/10/10926771.2017.1320777

06.01.2022 And if you are partnered, it is both parents who need to work their issues, which makes it rather interesting On the one hand, you have another person to witness and point out the patterns that you are, at the time, unconsciously playing out, but it can be hard hearing it from them. And vice versa. If the couple can focus on helping each other be aware of the triggers and patterns, and work together on developing new ways that work for the family, its a smoother journey.... Just remember that sometimes, the triggers can be painful, and we/they can lash out when in pain (normal response), so the journey becomes bumpy. And if the trigger and pattern (ie trauma) is present in BOTH parents, that can make things harder too. Thats when you remember its ok to ask for help from a trained psychologist/counsellor/therapist. https://www.facebook.com//a.10451096089/1593687884134271/

03.01.2022 Really good read. You might have seen me recently share the work from Latinx Parenting page, and I was curious about the hashtag #endlachanclaculture. It literally means stop the slipper (use of the slipper as a disciplinary tool on children). Here is an interview of the founder of the work. I resonate with much of what she says, having grown up in a country that had strong colonial history and impact. And in my home and school, it wasnt the slipper that was threatened, but a rattan cane. (Caning is still used as a corporal punishment in Malaysian prisons - imagine using that on children). https://jezebel.com/the-movement-to-end-la-chancla-the-corp
