23.01.2022 "Photos are a return ticket to a moment otherwise gone". After the floods that hit Launceston a few years ago, the timber of the local boardwalk was severely damaged. The area had to be refurbished, the timber is completely gone replaced by cement mesh panels and my photograph "Boardwalk" is now a historic record of how the Boardwalk once looked. That made me realise that I'm not only capturing a beautiful location but also imortalizing it. BTW this photo has so many details, and I love how you can see the nails on the timber, the shine on the wet lamp post and the build up droplets of water from the mist under the handrails https://rafaeldemarchi.square.site/product/boardwalk/6
22.01.2022 Seeing the photos on the computer, social media or mobiles is one thing, seeing them printed takes them to a stratropheric level. That is why I loved when my super awesome supplier sent me some photos of the art prints you ordered. His comments was " Mate, people really need to see your shots printed and in the flesh, to really appreciate your work. They are one of a kind." https://rafaeldemarchi.square.site/
21.01.2022 One of my mottos in photography is that "A picture should complement the environment and not call for all the attention". When I started taking photos, I wanted the 'grand panorama photos' full of colour and contrast. As I matured as a photographer and artist I realised that I got tired of looking at those intense images. They were great, but had a shelf life..or wall life. The photos that were more subtle in tones, minimalist in composition, made me slow down and appreciate them. They are not intrusive and provide a small window to a scene that enhances the atmosphere and the space they are in. https://rafaeldemarchi.square.site/product/white-flower/12
19.01.2022 Completely new system and new images. This is my first portfolio photo taken with the new camera. Really enjoying taking photos again Lamp post - this is a typical lamp post you find around iconic locations in Launceston. I decided to frame including a London plane tree in the top foreground. I love the contre jour including the shapes of the leaves and the round seed pods.
16.01.2022 An iconic aussie activity not often captured in the mist. https://rafaeldemarchi.square.site/product/surfer/10
15.01.2022 Cradle Mountain is a very special place. Beautiful all year round, most people love going there and are upset if they don't get a blue sky to see the mountain. I'm quite the opposite, I love the bad weather over there. Bad, miserable weather is great for photography. It adds drama, allowing me to capture moody photographs and unique details like in these beautiful button grasses covered in rain droplets. Here are 2 of my favourite photos from there. One of them was a national... photo competition finalist... but I did not win How good do they look together!? https://rafaeldemarchi.square.site/product/button-grass/7 https://rafaeldemarchi.square.site/product/cradle-tree-/3
11.01.2022 It is back! For a limited time only, my 40% off sale. Hurry, it ends on the 30th of June. https://rafaeldemarchi.square.site/
11.01.2022 The Fagus - Australia's only cold climate winter-deciduous tree and found nowhere else in the world but Tasmania. It is an awesome experience to see it them in the wild where I captured this photo. https://rafaeldemarchi.square.site/product/fagus/13
11.01.2022 I love black and white (if you haven't noticed yet). When taking b&w photos the focus is not on strong colours, but on shapes, lines, textures, contrast, composition and so on... with time, a photographer's eyes get trained to see those things. Nowadays photos can be converted later in the computer from colour to b&w but I like to take my b&w photos in b&w. This way they are intentionally constructed the way I will print them later on As a minimalist, my focus is on what I ca...n get out of the frame as much as what I can put in the frame and colour is something that I will happily sacrifice. In this photograph titled "Layers", I played exactly with all that, I removed everything but the essentials for the image to work and focused on lines, composition, textures, light, contrast and layers. It is a very peaceful piece, a "photographic haiku"... but I'll talk about my Japanese influence on another post https://rafaeldemarchi.square.site/product/layers/29
06.01.2022 The shape of hay bales is something that fascinated me for as long as I can remember. As a kid, I saw a beautiful photograph from Canada with these strange round "thingies" close to a train line. It was a great image but I had no idea what it was, you see in my native Brazil we don't have hay bales. The first time I saw them here in Australia, I knew I had to capture them. After many attempts, I realised that the photo I wanted was way harder to capture than I thought. That is why I love this photo, it is the result of something that intrigued me a child and years of trial and error to achieve the perfect composition and mood. https://rafaeldemarchi.square.site/product/hay-bales/14
