23.01.2022 COVID-19 UPDATE Although museums will be permitted to open from this weekend please bear with us as we work through the processes needed - some of which we are still trying to sort out. We need to make a few changes for a while to the way we do things, we need to ensure our volunteers are happy and safe, and after 2 months plus a stormy weekend there are a lot of very dusty locomotives and carriages that need a clean. Please keep following our page and we will advise you here when we will be re-opening. Thanks for your patience and support. See you soon we hope.

23.01.2022 More historic cars to visit the Railway Museum! On Sunday 11th March 2018 we are expecting the Morris Car Club, with drivers to arrive in their delightfully restored cars like the ones in this photo. The Morris Car Club is devoted to keeping alive this proud English brand, and members regularly gather for a run in their Morris vehicles. If you visit teh Railway Museum this Sunday you can chat to the proud owners and see how well these cars are kept.

23.01.2022 Have you seen the "Legomasters" series on TV? Now the budding brick-builders in your family can get a simple kit of parts to make up a tank engine. The boxes say "suits 4 years plus" which means Dad can have fun too! Several other models are available to build also, all at a very reasonable price.

22.01.2022 A great day at RAILFEST last weekend. Over 1400 tickets sold, plus our youngest whos dont need a ticket, so we think over 1600 visitors. Many of the young train lovers kept volunteer Curtis busy at the "Thomas" bouncy castle!

22.01.2022 The Railway Museums volunteers are looking forward to seeing you today for @openhouseperth from 11am-4pm.

20.01.2022 The Railway Museum will be part of "Open House Perth" for 2018 on Sunday 11th November from noon to 5pm. We'll have special displays and guided tours - details to come soon! For more info see https://www.openhouseperth.net/rail-heritage-wa

19.01.2022 Another new option for RAILFEST this year - if you come in the morning, youll know how there can be a queue as our volunteers sell tickets, etc. But now you can save that delay by booking through TRYBOOKING - go to https://www.trybooking.com/YCCC... And then bring your tickets on your phone or print them at home to show at the door.

18.01.2022 If you would like a good read during a less active time, then then "Marble Bar to Mandurah" is the book. It is an excellent history of railways in WA (with an emphasis on passengers). Just $15 soft cover, $29 hard cover in our March stocktake sale - only if purchased at the Railway Museum during March.

18.01.2022 Our friends at METRONET are all gearing up for their display on Sunday, so come along to see how the next few years will see so much improvement to Perth's transport. You'll also be able to learn about progress with the Forrestfield/Airport line tunneling, now heading down to bore right under the Swan River!

17.01.2022 Though we would love to have 500 people attend the Railway Museum every day we are open, this only happens once a year at Railfest. So, for the moment the Railway Museum will continue to open at its usual times. Our museum covers 4000 sq m so there is plenty of room to spread out. To assist us we would prefer it if you could pay by card or phone rather than cash, which carries more risk of infection. If you are unwell then please do not come for the wellbeing of our volunteers and the public. We will not be taking any further bookings for birthday parties at the moment due to the extra cleaning that our volunteers would have to do. Current bookings will be honoured. The situation is frequently changing, and we will continue to update you through our facebook page.

09.01.2022 Another old friend has returned to the museum, after months of careful restoration work to rusted metal. Our team had to make parts for the valve gear, some had disappeared over the years. And of course "Freudy" the tank engine had a new paint job. Come and see him soon....

09.01.2022 Good news for those who love their coffee fix - we will have a coffee cart at Railfest on Sunday so you can get your caffeine!

08.01.2022 Following the latest advice and government announcements, we regret to announce that the Railway Museum is now CLOSED for public visits until further notice. This has become essential for the safety and health of our visitors and our volunteers. Please watch for announcements as the situation changes. Our members and volunteeers will continue working in the background to maintain the museum and to prepare an even better experience for our re-opening. In the meantime, we wish you all good health in these difficult days.

06.01.2022 Veteran cars too!!!!! ------------------ The Railway Museum was honoured with a visit by the WA Veteran Car Club recently, and several members drove to Bassendean in their restored machines. These cars were a delight to see, and it was obvious the proud owners spend jsut as much time and love on restoring them, as do our train volunteers! Here's a snap of several of their cars lined up outside the Railway Museum. The closer shot shows the REO model just leaving - built 1910, probably good for another century....

06.01.2022 The Railway Museum's volunteers are looking forward to seeing you today for @openhouseperth from 11am-4pm.

05.01.2022 THOMAS, favourite of our youngest visitors, looks pretty miserable after the recent stormy weekend. Our little band of volunteers are working to give him a repaint before we open - don't want to disappoint the kids! Painting exhibits is one of the repetitive tasks our volunteers have to do, there's always something needs attention.

04.01.2022 Book sale at the Railway Museum - yes, in time for Xmas, we have significant reductions on selected book prices! Come and have a browse in our shop, fidn some quality books at reduced prices. You can also see most of them here: http://www.railheritagewa.org.au/sales/sales_specials.htm

Transperth have agreed that the shuttle bus can use a Transperth bus stop on teh north side of Bassendean station - i.e. in the usual bus stop area. Parking at the Museum for Railfest can be very difficult, so do use this free service!
