25.01.2022 As promised Im sharing some of the great tools and resources I use to help with toilet training advice This video is great for helping kids to gain an understanding of the concept of sensation and how to listen to and understand body cues. It shows easy steps to follow during toileting such as hand washing. Its quite detailed but in an animated way which is perfect. Kids can watch it on the iPad whilst getting them to do toilet sits.

24.01.2022 School's back! There can be a lot to process at this time of year, but we've got the important toileting info you need. The National Continence Helpline 1800 33 00 66 gave their advice to Kidspot on how to help your child settle into school.

24.01.2022 https://www.facebook.com/squattypotty/videos/925884884149638/ This is so funny and rather weird but you get the point, position is important!! Why is this relevant to bedwetting you ask???? Constipation is a common cause of bedwetting. Sometimes sorting out constipation is all that is needed to treat bedwetting.

24.01.2022 Keeping up to date is crucial in providing a high level of evidenced based care. Ive been reading some updated resources to keep informed with current knowledge and clinical practice. Something that stood out was the effect of Bedwetting and day wetting on the child and family, the impact on emotional, psychological and social development and the feelings children experience such as shame, guilt, failure and a sense of difference. Some children experience bullying amongst p...eers and even in the home and will avoid social activities that others take for granted. Families also experience concern and frustration as well as financial burden and the time and effort put into washing and clean up can be overwhelming in busy lives. Parents experience pressure from other family members and peers as well. There can be conflict between parents in how to manage the situation. Bedwetting is common with 1 in 5 children at 5 years old and 1 in 10 children at 10 years old experiencing Bedwetting About 1 in 7 children will stop Bedwetting without treatment per year, some will continue to experience bedwetting as a teenager and into adulthood. The good news is that MOST children improve or become dry with treatment Some factors that play a role in bedwetting are constipation, excessive night time urine production, overactive bladder, family history, reduced bladder capacity, difficulty arousing from sleep, sleep apnoea, lack of signal that stops the bladder emptying while asleep and developmental issues or disability. A continence nurse can accurately assess a child and identify the cause of bedwetting and establish an appropriate management plan Reference: Caldwell P, Deshpande, A. 17.01.2022 2016 was a busy year with many families seeking my help. 2017 is looking the same already and I cant believe its nearly March!! I feel privileged to be able to share my knowledge and guide children and their families towards a better understanding of the problem and what can be done to help. A good time to seek help is when your child is ready and is keen to work on the problem with support from their parents and professional guidance.

13.01.2022 Thats a wrap for the four day conference!!! It was long and exhausting but worth it. I missed my babies but apparently they had a great time with the fun parent!! I presented with my colleagues all day Wednesday which was well received. Then off for the nurses cruise on the harbor which was a nice treat. Today was Paediatric day which was what Id been waiting for, I picked up a few things and had a chance to network with amazing professionals who were very gracious with their time. Im looking forward to spending some time with the team at Westmead to continue my professional development. Thanks again to Independence Australia for funding me.

12.01.2022 Did you know that children who wet the bed are not being lazy or naughty They most often have not learnt the skill of waking to the feeling of a full bladder Some illnesses are linked with bedwetting but most children who wet dont have any major health problems... Dont wait to seek help, your child will thank you for it.

10.01.2022 Continuing on with my recent toilet training theme. Heres another great Continence Foundation fact sheet. Fluids and diet are important in maintaining healthy bladder and bowel function. Ensure these things are right before starting toilet training to improve the chances of success.
