25.01.2022 I just wanted to say - and this is totally your choice as parents - that given the current circumstances I will probably not be sending my Aspie boy to school tomorrow. Even IF they are open, there may be staff shortages due to the weather, so classes may be combined, aides may not be available, and the given stress of the weather event, I can foresee considerable challenges to his learning and I don't think it would be fair on him if we did send him. Everyone is different, and of course with many working there may be no option, but if you do have an option it may be worth considering.

24.01.2022 Woohoo!! Check this out - Tony Atwood is coming back to Mackay!! http://www.tonyattwood.com.au//ql/1205-mackay-6-march-2014

23.01.2022 This is a fantastic facebook page. I have been speaking to a few mums lately who have had issues with toileting and their little ASD pumpkins. It can be a very real sensory difficulty for some children. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=472768092837367&set=a.267373360043509.60172.226232787490900&type=1&theater

21.01.2022 ASD Healthy Life is a life - changer. If you have a child with an ASD you should consider giving Rhonda and her team a call.

18.01.2022 WOW. This is exactly my thoughts. Said so eloquently. https://www.facebook.com/autismdiscussionpage/posts/560491464030358

16.01.2022 Some places still available for these workshops - get in BEFORE the problems arise at the start of the year and put some strategies in place to help with the transition.

16.01.2022 Recent discussion with parents/friends have been around the topic of meltdowns and how they are managed. My first post on my website has been about this very topic. I share one of Connor's recent meltdowns (oh yes, we have them in this house too) and then I discuss ways to help you and your child primarily AVOID them and then, when all has failed, how to navigate the minefield of a meltdown. Hope you like it, and please give feedback! http://www.rainbowsolutionsmackay.com.au

16.01.2022 Secret Agent Society addresses these issues via a fun computer game and small group interaction led by a qualified facilitator - there are a few places left for this term. Email me at [email protected]

15.01.2022 SAS is getting so well recognised overseas - it is now globally recognised! SAS at the TES SEN Show in London: The Social Skills Training Institute recently attended the Teaching Education Services Special Educational Needs Show on 11-12 October in London, UK. This was a fantastic opportunity to meet with parents and professionals in the UK and there was great enthusiasm among the attendees.... Clinical Psychologist Kathleen Davey gave a talk at the show about how SAS is implemented, delegates saw a demonstration of the computer game and learned about the latest research results showing the outcomes children are achieving through SAS. Congratulations to the lucky mother who won an SAS Computer Game Pack at the show to support her Junior Cadet's social and emotional learning. Clinical Psychologist and Senior SAS Trainer Kathleen Davey with Special Agent Eileen Foster at the TES SEN Show in London. Secret Agent Society Overview SAS is delivered as a 12 or 24 session program in private practice, community or school settings. The group program involves an animated computer game, child group sessions, parent education, teacher tip sheets, real-life home missions, and a system to reward and monitor progress at home and school. The evidence-base, planning and training have also been provided for you. This means less time spent preparing session material, more time to focus on outcomes, and feeling more confident in helping these children and their families. "I highly recommend the Secret Agent Society program as the resources are innovative, well targeted and can make a big difference to how children on the spectrum manage their home and school life. Dr Tony Attwood, International expert on Asperger’s Syndrome SAS Intervention Resources In the meantime, you may be interested in getting started with SAS by purchasing one of the SAS Intervention Resources to complement your work with children. Visit the 'Resources' page of our website for details. News for Parents We have a new SAS Facilitator Map available on our parent website to help you find where your child can access the SAS Group Program. You can take a look here: www.sst-institute.net/au/parents/availability/ Please contact any facilitators near you for information about start dates and costs of the Group Program. 13.01.2022 WOW!!! The end of the school year is approaching us fast, before we know it, our cherubs will be starting a new school year. Beginning a new school year, can be stressful for any child, but especially for our darlings on the Spectrum. A new school, a new teacher and a new class can bring a host of difficulties for children with an ASD. Changes in routines, changes in rules, expectations and the general classroom environment are very stressful. I am developing a series of wor...kshops designed to help you help your child cope with the new school year. A one on one service will also be offered, to get an individual transition in place for your child. Stay tuned for more information, or email me at [email protected] See more

13.01.2022 Hi Everyone, Only 4 weeks of our school year is left! Have you started to get ready for next year? Scary thought I know, but for our little ASD kiddos, it is very important. Even if you don't know your child's teacher yet - ask the Principal if you can photograph the possible candidates, take photos of port racks, classrooms, libraries and toilet blocks. This would be even more helpful if you included your child in the photo - to help make the mind-body connection for the...m. Just don't take any pictures of other people's children, as this could get you in hot water...lol... Do it soon, before the school starts pulling everything down and things start getting too different. Why do this? You are getting prepared to make a Social Story about your child starting a new school year. This will help them understand what is happening next year and will reduce anxiety. Happy snapping! 05.01.2022 Another interesting post from "My Asperger's Child" http://www.myaspergerschild.com Talking about the components of those "Meltdowns" and how to help your child when dealing with them.

04.01.2022 Oh isn't this the truth - who else has witching hour at their place from 4pm-6pm?

03.01.2022 Such a great example of how literal our babies are xx

02.01.2022 Something to remember

02.01.2022 One thing I have noticed as a teacher is that children on the Autistic Spectrum take a long time time to "settle in" to the new school year. This causes a whole host of difficulties such as school refusal, social problems, anxiety and depression, not to mention losing valuable learning time. As a mum, I have developed a few tricks to help my boy start school feeling happy and confident and really want to share these with other parents of children with an ASD. I have just fin...alised the details of my "Reducing the Return To School Anxiety" Workshop for Parents. Please email me at [email protected] for more information if you are interested. See more
