25.01.2022 These are very challenging times that I'm pretty sure none of us are quite sure how to handle. If you are needing to self isolate or you are trying to distance yourself from others for health or whatever reason, there is no need to delay having your horse treated for soreness or preventative issues. I frequently treat horses myself due to owners being unable to be there due to work commitments so it is nothing new to me to hold and treat. I never tie a horse during treatment... anyway as I prefer to allow them to move and express how they are feeling about the treatment. So if you are unable to hold your horse, I'm happy to hold and treat. I'm even happy to use my own halter and lead and always sanitise my hands between treatments as a routine precaution anyway (spent 15 years working in microbiology and old habits die hard lol) If you are unable to ride for a while or you have found competitions have been cancelled, now might be good time for a treatment whilst your horse has time off. Please contact me if your horse needs a treatment or if you have any questions.

19.01.2022 Another clinic over and done with. Only 5 people working in 3 different areas so social distancing.... Tick. Big yards 5m across so owners no where near each other when seeing to horses . Large float parking. Hand wash station for morning tea and chairs 2m apart. Sunshine, fresh air and horses. Social distancing but still having fun with the horses awesome weather, awesome group of people. Happy happy happy. I'm planning to keep running clinics right through winter with low numbers and plenty of space.

16.01.2022 This seems to be confusing a lot of people at the clinic so here is a good diagram of the differences of shoulder in and shoulder out and hind quarter (haunches) in and out.

14.01.2022 Who's up for a clinic this weekend, 4th July if the weather stays fine? Working on whatever you need help with? Possibly look at ways to improve your float loading as that seems to be a common sticky point. Will give first option to you guys before opening up to non members. Please indicate if you are a possible or a definite and which day suits you best. $50 for members of Rainbow Valley Horsemanship group $60 non-members. Not a member? Head over and join to get priority booking in all our clinics and discounts on halters/leads and clinics. https://www.facebook.com/groups/207693449683343

10.01.2022 Rainbow valley will be stocking Carol laytons mineral mixes. I use these mineral mixes myself and after doing my nutrition course I haven't been able to find anyone else with the knowledge Carol has nor found products as good for the price. If anyone already feeds the mixes and would like the convenience of picking up or delivery around the brunswick area let me know what mix you use and i can make sure i stock up. Postage will be available for those that aren't in the local area and i am happy to deliver if I'm heading you way. If anyone is considering trying them, i can thoroughly recommend them.

09.01.2022 Head over to Rainbow Valley Horsemanship to see the first challenge. https://www.facebook.com/groups/207693449683343/?ref=bookmarks

07.01.2022 Who's in for a clinic this Sunday the 3rd of May. Now they have lifted the gathering limit to 10 we still have room for 3 more people who would like to join. Help with anything from groundwork, liberty to riding can be given. Weather's looking fine so brush your horse off (optional ) and come and join. Plenty of room for social distancing rules to be adhered to.

06.01.2022 So who's up for a challenge? I'm going to set a challenge course for people to follow just to help them focus on where their horse needs work and what areas they are awesome. I've done something like this in my clinics before and it was a bit of fun. It'll be run over in my fb group and anyone who wants to participate can add their video in the post. Steve and I will run a few of our horses through. Some are at a different levels and some will do OK and some not so much. Anyo...ne who knows Takoda knows he can either do well or be the class clown . There's no fee to participate but I can offer suggestions on how to improve or focus on doing a little video to help people improve. WHO'S IN? if you're already a member of rainbow valley horsemanship group keep an eye open for it. If you aren't a member yet, head over and join in the fun.

05.01.2022 Day 1 of John St Ryan Clinic Anyone who has worked with me knows how much I go on (and on and on) about horses being either left or right eye dominant. They would also have heard me bang on about cutting things down into really small tasks that your horse can understand before you put them all together. They would also have heard me say, think about what you are going to ask for and exactly how you are going to ask before you actually ask your horse to do it so you have tim...e to prepare yourself and your horse and you know what you are expecting your horse to do. Well that is pretty much where John St Ryan started with his clinic. He is a really great clinician who is happy to explain things and give each rider some 1 on 1 attention. I'll be bringing back a few new tools to help some horses with resistance but day one mainly re-enforced a lot of what I already teach which is great for my confidence to know I am on the right track helping the horses and riders the way I do. Sometimes, with so much conflicting advice out there from so many different trainers, it is reassuring to have the path I have chosen and the philosophy I teach validated by such an awesome horseman. Every clinic I go to always adds a little to what I do and helps to give me a new way of approaching a problem that may suit some horses or some riders and this clinic is no exception. I'm really looking forward to day 2.

04.01.2022 I'm running a promotion for members of my rainbow valley horsemanship group. Once the group reaches 350 people, one lucky person, picked at random will win a portrait of their horse in either zentangle or stipple (their choice). So if you or other people you know would like to join, you may be the lucky recipient of a new portrait before Christmas. https://www.facebook.com/groups/207693449683343

03.01.2022 Spending the afternoon counting hairs or i guess you could say splitting hairs can't share the whole thing quite yet.

03.01.2022 ON-LINE GROUNDWORK/RIDDEN EXERCISES AND VIDEO REVIEW FREE This is a difficult time for everyone at the moment and sometimes it is difficult to know what to work on with your horse. Or in fact whether to work with your horse. But, getting out and working with your horse is still currently allowed as long as social distancing rules are observed. Unfortunately I am no longer able to run my popular pop-up clinics but instead I am happy to set exercises and... review videos for my clients during this time. I'm not going to set a fee for this service as everyone is in a different situation financially and I recognize some people may not be able to afford coaching fees at this time. I don't want anyone's horsemanship journey to stall or even go backwards because they can't afford to seek help during this difficult time. Please reach out, especially if you are having problems with your horse. I don't want you to stop working with them but I also don't want you to inadvertently train bad habits or get into a dangerous battle with your horse. If people feel my help has been useful and they are in a position to pay something that's is great but it's not about making money it's about keeping everyone safe and engaged with their horses. You can contact me by pm, Mobile 0427799477 or email [email protected]

02.01.2022 This is the most amazing footage of a horse cantering in a paddock i have ever seen. Why you ask? Is he an incredibly beautiful horse? Cute maybe but not incredibly beautiful. So is he amazingly graceful? Definitely not. So maybe he displays amazing athleticism? Nope. Definitely not. So why is the footage so amazing? Because this horse should be dead. It started in October last year when Takoda went down with severe laminitis in all four feet. The journey has been long, and ...Continue reading

01.01.2022 My new project can now be revealed has it has gone to its new home. This is a mirror (which is really hard to photograph). Inlaid with horse hair with a metal cutout mounted in the corner. It measures 780mm x 480mm.
