25.01.2022 warm and cosy hotel for hibernating locals

22.01.2022 After 3 days of Mal'rain'y weather the light emerges from the mist.

21.01.2022 The Nature Refuge gets some time off from human intervention over the Christmas break. But it was off to nearby Woodford Folk Festival for us this week. Biggest ever festival!! As usual, lots of gems among the heat this year. Big thrill when, doing some uke jamming with about 40 others, Keith Potger from the Seekers joined us. This is one of his songs that we all did. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gu8bYqJqcG4

19.01.2022 This part of the wet sclerophyll forest will be re-populated with natives now that the lantana has been cleared.

18.01.2022 In a world where Queensland and NSW farmers are clearing native forests at a rate that is only eclipsed by Brazil, Sudan and Indonesia, every little bit of extra conserved forest helps.

18.01.2022 Had a week off from Nature Refuge work. But celebrated 8 years of sourdough making today. These two loaves make it about 400 loaves since getting my first starter from Tasmania in 2008. Accompanying veges mark the last harvest from our winter planting.

18.01.2022 Maya detected an old (2 weeks?) koala scat (poo) and a fresh scat. See how she drops and freezes when she is successful.

15.01.2022 Maya, the University of the Sunshine Coast's wonderful koala detection dog came to visit Rainforest Ridge today.

14.01.2022 Once the new rainwater tank is in place, it will be soon time to put in a much-needed shower hut. It will go here .. what used to be part of an old timber cutter's snigging track.

13.01.2022 Came accross this cave this morning while on a walk in the rain on Rainforest Ridge with our Land for Wildlife officer.

11.01.2022 one way to re-cycle old telecoms equipment - this became a light switch for the 12v lighting system in our cabin.

10.01.2022 Approaching our 30th day over 30 degrees with more than 70% humidity means not too much work done at Rainforest Ridge lately. We did manage to get some badly needed oiling done to the drying out decking timber.

09.01.2022 If it looks like a spa, feels like a spa - then it must be a spa. Many kilometres away from mains water, nestled among the Xanthorrhoeas at Rainforest Ridge, this re-cycled spa will fill from rainwater which overflows from one of our many tanks. When its 30 degrees with 90% humidity and we've just finished maintaining another walking track, a cool dip should work wonders!

04.01.2022 Maya brought Billy (the apprentice) along.

03.01.2022 three hungry drongos ready to fledge.

02.01.2022 baby swamp wallaby "checkin it out"

01.01.2022 Our Land for Wildlife officer Alan Wynn setup his wildlife camera on Rainforest Ridge recently. This is what he captured: long-nosed bandicoot northern brown bandicoot short-eared brushtail possum bush rat... swamp wallaby melomys sp Antechinus sp Koala Echidna .. and lots of birds!

01.01.2022 The new gum boot rack. Essential equipment in summer. Spiders should eat mosquitos .. not inhabit gum boots.

01.01.2022 This echidna was just trying to get some sleep when we disturbed him at Mary Cairncross yesterday. If they could be domesticated just imagine the savings to be had in reduced termite control.

01.01.2022 Can't have too many rainwater tanks in these conditions. This 3,000 litre tank should be in place in a few days.
