21.01.2022 Since 1910, Australia has warmed by 1.44C and the levels of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere have been accelerating. We must immediately and dramatically reduce burning fossil fuels and begin planting billions of trees.

21.01.2022 We’ve been busy planting more trees in the Daintree Lowland Rainforest, this time on Silver Ash Road. This added to the World Cassowary Day tree planting and there are now 400 trees planted on this roadside in Cow Bay. Thanks to Connie and Dave from Daintree Life for setting up this tree planting event last week and to our team of volunteers for getting the trees planted. A special thank you to the many donors helping to make this happen. #DaintreeBuyback #SaveTheDaintree #DaintreeLife

20.01.2022 If we could buy just one property in the Daintree Lowland Rainforest for conservation Lot 157 Cape Tribulation Road at Diwan would be the one. The endangered Cassowary, rare Bennett’s Tree-kangaroo, and the Musky Rat-kangaroo are all found here, however, on this 8-hectare property, it is the rainforest itself that is exceptionally important. Read more at https://bit.ly/31vqIqH The rainforest vegetation found on Lot 157 is the grandest and most archaic of all rainforests in A...ustralia, possessing many primitive flowering plants. There are many very large trees reaching 35 meters tall with impressive buttress roots. The trees are festooned with epiphytes being ferns and orchids with large lianas and other vines cascading from above. The Spur Mahogany tree (Dysoxylum pettigrewianum) and Fan Palm (Licuala ramsayi) is a characteristic feature of these rainforests. 16.01.2022 "We don't need Disneyland on the Daintree, we don't need another Gold Coast, which is the direction some of these developments are pointing," Mr McDonald said.

14.01.2022 A survey of the plants on this property identified 270 species! Now it’s time to prevent its development and add it to the Daintree National Park. 13.01.2022 Criminals have damaged our tree planting site in the Daintree Lowland Rainforest. More than 400 rainforest trees, some of them established through the donations of a ten-year-old boy who chipped in all his pocket money, have been ripped from the earth and left on the ground to die. The 400 trees that were destroyed were mostly planted by local Daintree community volunteers and others were planted by renowned gardener Costa Georgiadis. 11.01.2022 Gray’s Walnut (Endiandra grayi) is another Threatened species that we've found on Lot 157 Cape Tribulation Road in the Daintree Lowland Rainforest. It is a large growing Laurel tree only found between the Daintree River and Cape Tribulation in lowland rainforest and occurs only to 40m above sea level. Its large seeds are dispersed solely by the Southern Cassowary. Just one individual tree was identified on Lot 157. As with all large fruiting Walnut species, it is food for th...e Southern Cassowary which is the sole disperser of its seeds. It is therefore important to preserve the habitat for both the tree and the bird. Gray’s Walnut (Endiandra grayi) is listed as Vulnerable to extinction under the Nature Conservation Act 1992. 08.01.2022 We've found another extremely rare plant species on Lot 157 Cape Tribulation Road! This shrub is a native Citrus known as the the Russell River Lime (Citrus inodora). It grows as a shrub to 3m and is restricted to dense tropical lowland rainforests in two very small areas of the Wet Tropics of Queensland. One region is south of Cairns at the eastern foothills of the Bellenden-Ker range and the other in the Cow Bay Daintree lowlands. It is a relative of the better known Finger... Lime of southern border districts. An interesting fact about the Russell River Lime is that ínodora refers to no-smell something that is usually highly characteristic of all Citrus species. It bears small spines along the stem and fruit reminiscent of small pale lemons. Citrus inodora is listed as being Vulnerable to extinction Queensland Nature Conservation Act 1992. 07.01.2022 No more than 80 Sumatran rhinos are believed to survive today, scattered across isolated and fragmented habitats in Indonesia.

06.01.2022 Lot 157 Cape Tribulation Road is a living museum. The high diversity of 270 plant species and the presence of 12 plant species listed under conservation legislation highlights the refugial endemism of this particular forest on Lot 157. Small areas on the very wet lowlands, especially between the Daintree River and Cape Tribulation, harbour plant species which are extremely restricted and uncommon. Many areas of this ecosystem are considered refugial in nature and are local c...entres of endemism. Many representatives of primitive families of flowering plants are present, including the monotypic family Idiospermaceae. The ecosystem is the habitat for many threatened plant species. 01.01.2022 Amazing find! We have found the Endangered Cooper Creek Walnut (Endiandra cooperana) on Lot 157 Cape Tribulation Road. The Cooper Creek Walnut is a tree first identified just to the north of Lot 157. Many specimens of this Endangered species can be found on the property. Nearly all the records of this tree are from the surrounds of Cooper Creek in the lowlands of the Daintree. Its large yellow fruits are food for the equally Endangered Southern Cassowary. The preservation of... Lot 157 is important to assist in the continued prosperity of this highly localised Walnut species.
